The German Army were never "Nazis" due to the fact that their law stated that members of the army could not be associated with or belong to any political party.The army was politically neutral,in most cases they weren't to keen on Nazism.This was one of the main reasons the Waffen SS was created,whoose function was to be political soldiers.When things were going well for the army they admired Hitler,as soon as things went bad he quickly fell out of favour with all from top to the lowest ranks.

Everyone seems to forget they did not act until the war was lost. All this high morale stuff was really a bid to get better peace terms. Plenty in the plot had the chance to act much earlier.

@12from121 True. Officers from Dona in Prussia, to Stauffenberg in the south, to Rommel....didn't see anything reprehensible as Hitler, within 8 months, crushed all countries adjacent to Germany.

A few timidly tried between 40-41, but Manstein's Blitzkrieg pretty much shut them up. By 44-45, when even foot soldiers knew most would be sent to Siberia... when 95% of the deaths, destruction, & suffering had already been done, then a few tried, again. And still failed miserably.

@HenryDavidT Yep the timing says it all really, after the Allies had broken out of their beacheads. Today all we hear are what heros they were and how they did it to save lives-BS. They did it to grab power hoping the allies would let them keep their country. It was such a tragically organised plot too that had 0% chance of working even if Hitler was killed.

@12from121 Indeed this is true,with the allies gaining a foothold and moving towards Germany,along with the terrible threat from the Red Army.Hitler would never allow tactical retreats and would never surrender or even come to a mutual agreement with the allies.More than anything else the German army feared the Red Army.In the beginning they were a push over,but after Stalingrad,the appearance of the T-34 the tables changed and the Reds became a very real threat to Germany.

@silver760 T-34 appearance after Stalingrad? You're wrong, 1400 of T-34 were already in service when Germans started Barbarossa. It's production started in 1940.

@Florek112 Prior to Stalingrad the T34 had not been available in any great quantity.What they did have was widely dispersed.By the fall of '41 the output from the factories moved to the Urals started to become available and the Germans began encountering them in greater and greater numbers culminating in the battle at Kursk.

They started to displace other types in first half of 42' already, so Stalingrad surely isn't enclosure. Also structure of the Soviet Tank Corps changed earlier. 3. Number of T-34 in RKKA was still rising after Kursk, it wasn't culmination.

i found out staffenberg could not shoot hitler because staffs right hand was blown off from a mine and he lost his left eye and had only three fingers on his left hand, but heck, he failed his mission he could have used a straight razor or stabbed hitler, as i wrote before, he didn't have the courage to carry out the suicide mission, and he was executed that day anyhow, hitler assassination, was a given as a suicide mission. he failed the job. too darn bad. the war could have ended sooner.

@bettygoodbody Bringing a hidden razor effectively into use with 3 fingers on a man 6 ft away is a ludicrous. However, from a military standpoint Stauffenberg's plan to act both in the role of assassin and coup d'etat commander was absurd due to the 3 hour flight delay: he had to carry out his own orders at the front (he was the only one of the conspirators with access to AH) and then survive the assassination attempt and return because there was no one to lead the coup in Berlin in his absence.
