  • This was the stolen Grammy

  • Love her voice! God bless her talents!

  • Did Ashford and Simpson write this song? It sounds very much like their production style.

  • @hork111 Yes Ashford & Simpson wrote this~

  • Well done, Miss Ross. Took a while to get the definitive MOTOWN version put out, but this was definitely it - - the dramatic intro, solid backup vocals, full horn section, etc. etc. etc.

  • wow it amazes me how you can steal some one song and not give recognition some songs should never be re made and this is one of em i love tammi terrell version better

  • @tmovementmusiq Diana Ross didn't steal this song. Ashford and Simpson gave it to her and produced both versions. Actually three versions, Diana sang a version that was closer to the Gaye/Terrel version two years before.

  • This is my last message. I want everyone to heal. I want everyone to obey command.

  • Diana Ross is a savior. Listen to her music. Listen to it everyday. She can heal you. I am her. I am a healer. I can heal you. I'll pray for you. All of you.

  • DIANA ROSS IS ME. MY ENERGY. SHE IS BEAUTIFUL AND HAVE A BEAUTIFUL VOICE. HER MUSIC IS TIMELESS. SHE HEALS.

  • @joankendricklyons That meth is a helluva drug eh?

  • STOP THE KILLINGS. STOP PLAYING WITH ELECTROMAGNATISM. DON'T DO IT ANYMORE.

  • THE LORD IS COMING IN HIS GLORY. AINT NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH. NOTHING CAN SPERATE US FROM THE LORD OUR GOD. REMEMBER THAT. ACCEPT HIM AND RETURN TO THE LORD. DO THIS. HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. YOU WON'T KNOW DEATH. EVER.

  • Love everyone you meet. Love your enemies. Pray for those that persecute you. Love them.

  • This is one of my favorite songs. I love it. It is a healing song. It heals you. FATHER heals you also. Did you know That? I can heal you. I can baptize in the name of the FATHER, SON, AND HOLY GHOST. I am the Second Coming of Christ. Walk down the aisle at church and tell the preacher you want to RETURN TO THE LORD AND HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. That is the only way to eternal life. I did it. I want you to do it.

  • comments on here need removing, foul language, all it needs is to comment on the song and artist.

  • This is such a positive, uplifting, hopeful song, until the line about "The day I set you free." For some reason that line has always bothered me and seems in contradiction to the overall vibe in the song. Remove it (or change it) and this song is a perfect 10 in my book.

  • love 2:24 thru 3:14

  • Remember the Titans ;)

  • As good as it get's !

  • Production slick, arrangements totally professional, production absolutely superb however this version completely lacks any of the honesty, joyfulness and heartfelt soul of the Marvin Gaye / Tammi Terrell version. KTF.

  • What a totally sublime production; so very brave; of one of the most emotive songs ever written; brings me to tears it's so breathtakingly beautiful.

  • i so remember Those days of being Totally obssesed with This song , i was only about 11 or 12 , nowh i'm 15 & still very much so in lovee with This song !

  • just..........beautiful. my old time icon Diana..god bless :))

  • Where did those days and songs go?

  • Where did those days and songs go?

  • Who else came here after watching Remember The Titans? :)

  • how does someone dislike this song?

  • Timeless

  • best song

  • This song is getting me through Afghanistan!!!

  • @stacia663 Good luck :)

  • @stacia663 Wow nice. Hope you came home safe my friend.

  • @stacia663 What does that mean?

  • @xXxTeenQueenxXx

It means you need to listen to something to ease your mind od being away from home especially in a deployment environment!

  • @stacia663 mmmm... Thanks!

  • @stacia663 And what the fuck are you doing in Afghanistan?

  • @jocapavlovic747 Fighting an illegal, lopsided and losing war you stupid little retch. You think anyone's going there for a vacation

  • @DHTSciFiArtist My question was rhetorical you dumb fuck. I wanted to make a point which is: What are you (Americans) doing in a foreign recognited country, half the world away from your home country? Do you have any rights to invade in any other country and do whatever you wish? You fucking terrorist fascist scum!

  • @DHTSciFiArtist Some folks do go to Afghanistan for a vacation. In fact, some even go to North Korea. They are the more adventurous ones.

Afghanistan - where empires go to die. :D

  • @stacia663 Come home safe to your family, and thank-you for your defence of freedom we all love

  • @stacia663 Pussy.

  • @mdauthier1 you're stupid. he/she could be just listening to it. acting like you know he/she cryin to it

  • @stacia663 This is one of my favorite songs of all time for many years. (I'm only 33) I've always liked the Supremes and Diana Ross. Ain't no mountian high enough is from 1970, the birth year of my first love.

  • @TheWhately Hope you get through afghanistan. Kick some ass

  • @stacia663 Get home safe, dude. It's war. Forget that hearts and minds piss. If it looks dodgy, light that fucker up. Save the moralizing for later.

  • - Amazing

    Says it all really!

  • this is hands down the best version of this song. she outdid Marvin and Tammy big time....yeah I said it!

  • @thehustle2009

    she didn't...

    the funk brothers did ; ) <3

  • @mare2405 I'm pretty sure Motown had shifted to LA by the time this was recorded (much earlier than is often recorded in the literature), and I think it's a masterpiece all round; the players, Diana, arrangers, engineers, writers; everybody! ; thank you all ever so much for a recording for all time; bravo!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @Stevieraylittlewing

    we agree, i think ; ) ...

prefer the instrumental version though <3

  • @thehustle2009 I like them all. Their styles are unique, but both equally great. But I think she's a bit better!

  • @thehustle2009 Right. But it's two completely different versions of the song. Both brilliant and both beautiful.

  • @thehustle2009 Really now lol. In my younger days I would have strongly disagreed but I'm coming around to your point of view! God save my soul Marivn & Tammi lol~

  • 31 people can't climb the mountain.Pax to all from 73soulboy.Xxx.

  • aww, added on my 13th birthday:)

  • I know Phil Specter known for it, but that's a genuine Motown WALL OF SOUND that hits you at 5:30 and beyond.

  • powerful. wow.

  • Just saw Diana in concert last night. It was my first concert ever. It was AMAZING. I was in tears when she came out. And I was singing at the top of my lungs when she sang this. It was an extraordinary concert. Spectacular.

  • Forget the single version that gets played on the radio. This song should be enjoyed in all of it's 6 minute and 19 second glory.

  • @atrain4751 Amen to that my friend. I refuse to listen to the truncated version.

  • A #1 hit for Diana Ross on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 214th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #1 on the Top 40 charts. This was Diana's first #1 hit on any chart since the break-up of The Supremes.

  • This songs makes think about me and my first love and how i felt when she broke up with me. I went home and played this song over and over again until it made me cry. My high school sweetheart broke my heart. I love you Diana.

  • Love it X

  • I'm making this comment for the passing of Nick Ashford (who wrote this song and many others) may his family be blessed and may he RIP. I know that heaven is jamming now.

  • from Bridget Jones's Diary;)

  • :D

  • its a great song, and ross does a good job, but STILL. how much of the effort is coming from the backup singers!! you have to give big credit to the backup vocals in this studio recording.

  • Chemtrails and poverty in AMERICA. Barium and aluminum in the skies, therefore in the water supply and soil. Be sure to take a few inches off your topsoil, and mix in potting soil, or ground cottonseed/manure mix. Horse manure is too clumpy, get sheep manure if available. PEACE ON EARTH - Ron Paul 2012

  • @Blondenfun1 Errrr am I missing something here ? just came to listen to Miss Ross.........

  • Back in the day when mucic was and still is music. I didn't know Nick Ashford wrote this. RIP my brother.

  • @dimepeice55 nick wrote it, but thats different from doing the musical arrangement of it.

  • travel well to the ancestors Nick Ashford

  • Perfect singer, perfect song. RIP, Nick!

  • In Memoriam Nick Ashford 1942-2011 : ( ...

  • RIP Nick Ashford... probably the greatest love song IMHO

  • This classic oldie was co-written by Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson in 1967 and was recorded twice by both Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell and 3 years later by Diana Ross which later went to No.1. It's sad that Nick Ashford died Monday. He and his wife Valerie Simpson are one of the most successful singers /songwriters of all time. They also wrote songs for Chaka Khan, Ray Charles, & others. Good-bye Mr. Ashford and Thanks for the music. RIP Nick Ashford : ( ....

  • Manny Ain't no mountain high !!!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Diana Ross in Hartford, CT this past spring, and when she did this Ashford/Simpson classic , the Bushnell Theater became a church; rarely have I seen a singer performing a song that just touched so many people, including myself.......RIP Nicholas Ashford, you wrote music for the ages.

  • Nick Ashford, we'll all miss you. (R.I.P.)

  • EXPLOSIVE

  • RIP Nick

    :-(

  • If he on;y was involved with this, Nick Ashford would be immortal anyway. Thanks for the great songs and passion.

  • RIP Nick Ashford. A song so nice it became a hit twice!

  • Rest In Peace Nick Ashford. You left us some beautiful music to remember you by.

  • RIP Nick Ashford...

  • i dont care if im 14, i absolutely love this song sooooooo much!

  • This version (the long version) was typically used by R&B/soul and MOR format stations(that played this song)...the short version was used by many Top 40 stations due to the then taboo against songs over 4 minutes in then (overwhelming AM) Top 40 formats.

  • love this version of this song. wish a current artist could cover it well...

  • God, I love this! :)

  • I love listening to this song, and this song was an old song when I was born..

  • I heard this song on Sirius XM's '70s on 7 channel a couple of times, but it was the short single version instead of this full album version.

  • I saw Diana Ross twice; once in Louisviile in a small theater, and once in Chicago in a large hall. She closed her performance with this song, and it was magnificent. As they say, the crowd went wild. It gives me hope that, in heaven, I will have that feeling again. It's been many years ago, but it still sends chills up my spine every time I hear this song.

  • magic indeed. one of the greatest songs

  • Magic.

  • DHL xDD...!

  • @666BassBeast and @dm3830 you both are half right the bass is by James Jamerson and somone else you both might not have heard of named Carol Kaye

  • @coolsweetgroovy

Carole Kaye, according to Motown, had absolutely nothing to do with this track-and many others to which she's laid claim. Several Motown producers, comers & arrangers have signed notarized affidavits to this fact.

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 She did there's someone here called basslab who made a vid to solve the mystery

  • @coolsweetgroovy

    No, she didn't.

The "mystery" was solved years ago: talkbass. com/forum/f28/carol-kaye-controversey-solved-77562

  • @coolsweetgroovy

Sorry(for you)if reading exhausts you, but, there it is.

I wondered why she wasn't featured in "Standing In The Shadows".

Now I know. She has only a passing acquaintance with the truth, and her "fans" have even less awareness of good manners.

    You're dismissed.

    Rest in peace.:)

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 Ok(simulating eye rolling)

  • Features the legendary Carol Kaye and James Jamerson on bass

  • Magical, wonderful... the best version of the song and one of the best songs ever

    Diana & James rock!

Our music era is SO poor and brainless, no soul...

  • Vies with the Tammi Terrill and Marvin Gaye all the time as to which is the greatest version and both are marvelous

    .

  • 13 years old, and I heart this song. :D

  • 26 PEOPLE FORGOT TO TURN THERE HEARING AIDS ON

  • Two words. James f'''king Jamerson!!!

    ok thats three words

the truly irreplaceable Motown star. Peace be with you James, let your basslines welcome us all (male, female, whatever creed or colour) at the gates of paradise and then get on down for eternity

I didnt understand in my teens why I foind this song so powerful. Diana does well indeed, Ashford and Simpson thank you, but this is Jamerson's 9th symphony, yes?

  • she peaked here marvelous song marvelous USA back then,,,,miss it alot

  • This song got me through Vietnam,it still sounds good,Love you Diana

  • @MrBlessed60 RESPECT for getting through Vietnam.

  • @MrBlessed60 Hey. Thank you for what you did over there. Vietnam vets r my heroes...Deserve better.

  • Did James Jamerson play bass for this version too

  • I just don't know which version is better. I think she was pregnant with her first child when she recorded this song.

  • @candyapple855 That means that she was pregnant with Rhonda :)

  • This song got me and my two friends through our Duke of Edinburgh expedition when we had climb through Snowdonia National park in Wales! :')

  • @yasyaf710 actually there was a song from the 80s or 70s called radio gaga by queen which is where she got inspiration for her name.

  • I have a playlist that consists of this version and the Marvin Gaye version because when I want to hear this song I can never decide which version I want. So I do both.

  • HOW could ANYONE VOTE A NEGATIVE TO THIS GREAT SONG ONE OF THE GREATS OF ALL TIME??????? ARE they alive????

  • HOW COULD ANYONE VOTE A NEGATIVE TO THIS GREAT SONG ONE OF THE GREATS OF ALL TIMEEEEEEE??????? ARE THEY ALIVE????

  • I think people just put dislike because they have nothing better to do in life. This song is so good. It brought back a lot of memories from my growing up days. What's really sad, and it's not their fault but these kids today will never get to experience the wonderful times we had growing up. Long live the oldies & Motown....Brian

  • @oldiesmusic76, no the marvin gaye version with tammi terrell is better

  • cum on ga ga do one like this NOT

  • @yasyaf710 Obviously you never heard of Radio Gaga by Queen

  • This is the best version, not those edited versions on radio. #1 song from 1970.

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU CAME HERE TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG BECAUSE OF THE DHL COMMERICIAL

  • Sorry Dusty.

  • @yasyaf710 Gaga like in radio gaga?

  • Beautiful.

  • ANY person that can sing this song gets a thumbs up in my booook

  • just like old time when we were kids growing up in Pittsburgh, Pa. my sisters would perform theses songs down in the basement, tee-tee karen and teresa and roach and the rest of the gang, not to forget joy and chink, may chink rest in peace...

  • todays music will never sound or feel like this.

  • @ROTTYLUV4ME Ditto!!!

  • I use to carry my transitter radio all day waiting 4 this song 2 play.

  • I've always loved Diana and this song. I was born 9 months after it was released.

  • This song brings back some memories for me :)

  • both verisons are great enough said

  • amazing song to dsing in a choir. especially the high part at the end, but its a little hard to reach unless you're a professional like myself :DDDDD

  • I can't stop listening this song. I wish I was born in the late 40's (1948, 49) to be in my 20's listening this song from 1970. Now, I'm 22, and I'm still in love with Diana's voice.

  • No matter how epic this song is, I could never claim to like it more than the original by marvin gaye and tami terrell

  • @stoogefest16 I actually knew this song before the marvin gaye/tammi terell version, and i loved it. but as soon as i heard the original, it's my favorite! :D THESE SONGS ARE SO EPIC!! :O

  • @Quezecotyl Okay so I love this version just as much as anyone else, but i just wanna say that Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell were the original writers and singers of this song, and it became a huge hit in 1967. Then Diana Ross made her cover and it became a huge hit in 1970.

  • @77musicLoverZ what is remarkable about this song are the writers/arrangers/producers ashford and simpson. they completely reworked their own song in such an incredible, anthemic way. they were creative geniuses.

  • Never ever ever give up. Nothing can ever keep me from you.

  • @454something

    AMEN !!

  • My favorite rope to hang myself was a natural rope leash to walk FRIZTZ THE GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG made from me petting him and feeding him from my own school bag lunch as an orphan child... I would only talk to THE SANE...

  • I was watching Chicken Little yesterday and heard this song. This is my favorite song of all time :3

And 23 people dont have good taste at all!

  • I think this is my favorite song of all time.

  • i love this song and im singing it in choir :)

  • actually I prefer the version on Richard Simmons's exercise tape...it was more melodic.

  • how could anybody vote down on this???? this song was and is the bomb!!! love diana ross forever!!!!!!!

  • It's easy for many to compare Diana's rendition to Marvin & Tammi, but only the masters of Motown could make it possible to have 2 amazingly different classic versions of the same song. Same can be said for Heard It Through The Grapevine..both Marvin & Gladys made that song their own and both are excellent in their own way. This arrangement of Ain't No Mountain" & with the Funk Bros. doing their thing, is an absolute treasure. Jamerson's bass & the horns are the backbone.

  • what a shit cover. shit shit shit. tammi and marvin's version rules.

  • 20 people found a mountain that was too high, a valley that was too low and a river that was too wide then gave up.

  • @adamcsilk21 I know. Incredibly sad huh.
