This is such a positive, uplifting, hopeful song, until the line about "The day I set you free." For some reason that line has always bothered me and seems in contradiction to the overall vibe in the song. Remove it (or change it) and this song is a perfect 10 in my book.

It's easy for many to compare Diana's rendition to Marvin & Tammi, but only the masters of Motown could make it possible to have 2 amazingly different classic versions of the same song. Same can be said for Heard It Through The Grapevine..both Marvin & Gladys made that song their own and both are excellent in their own way. This arrangement of Ain't No Mountain" & with the Funk Bros. doing their thing, is an absolute treasure. Jamerson's bass & the horns are the backbone.
