Why is it so slow?

This is a research platform, not built to withstand collisions like commercial toy robots, we tuned down the velocity to safety measures.

Why not put pading on it and turn up the volocity otherthan it will be harder to work on?

Because if it was going at full speed, it'd be dangerous to the soft squishy humans working around it.
If it had the speed to reach out and grab my arm as I helped it with the ball, I'd turn it off first.
