  • so im 21 this year, in melbourne australia... whos got in done in melbourne and who is the best doctor to do it!!! HELP

  • @vmourad91 Hey Mate, I'm from Australia to. There used to be a Dr called Dr. Goldbatt whom was the best in Australia he was In Melbourne he is retired now though. Your best bets are Dr.Aludist in Melbourne or travelling up to Sydney and seeing the Dr who is doing my surgery. Pro. Chard. For the best info visit the "Pectus Info Board" just google it.

  • the worse thing for me(got mine august 1st 14 years old) was the laughing part when i got home, it hurt to laugh and also the catheder wasnt so fun when it got taken out

  • I had this surgery when I was 14 and it hurt so bad. I think one of the worst parts was taking out my catheder.

  • I never imagined I'd ever get the surgery but I just got it a few weeks ago on December 15 of 2011. They hooked me up with an IV and my epidural and sent me down the hall to a different room where they put me under anesthesia and I fell asleep. Next thing I knew I had a perfect chest. I stayed there for a week and now I'm home and still recovering. I can walk around just fine now and I'm still on pain meds but it went incredibly well. If you're afraid to get the surgery DON'T BE.

  • Having mine done in June next year. Cant wait...

  • @iMartinHenriksen got mine done on Aug 8th of this year (2011) I feel great, 4 months after surgery, :D

  • @Nickriggi cool, then there is hope for me.

  • Guys. The surgery is fine.

had this done in August, and i was released after a week. I had a common problem (pneumothorax) but that fixed itself, so luckily i didnt have none of the chesty-sucky tubey thing... The worst bit for me was weening off the painkillers, as they had me pumped of every opiate known to man. the withdrawal was horrendous. The op was a breeze compared to that.

  • I shouldn't be watching this.. my boyfriend is having this surgery November 8th, I'm so nervous..

  • can you still exercise if u do the nuss

  • i had mine done last month, omg the pain is crazy!! miss being able to sleep on my belly. but im really happy with the results ive had 2 operations in the past that didnt work so had the nuss done (making it my 3rd) im just glad its finally all done.. just got to heal now

  • Hello ... i'm doing this in Christmas time... i'm fourteen ( yeah , i lied so i could watch the video, but i need it to ) , i'm portuguese, so my english kinda sucks (:

I'm really nervous, but i'm also excited. So, i'm really afraid of the pain.

anyone who has done it can tell me how to deal with the pain? PLEASE PEOPLE, help me :(

  • Know how u feel mate been a month since mine

  • is there anyone here who got 2 bars inserted?i got only one. but now i wish i had 2 bars inserted. my lower part of ribs is still fucked up. going through all this pain was so..so hard. and yeah, people with pectus should feed special . WE ARE SPECIAL AND STRONGER THAN NORMAL PEOPLE

  • oh and i hope i can keep the bar when i get it takein out haha

  • @redneckemothing The first question i asked to the surgeron was i i can keep my bar after the 3 years (i wasn't opered yet) and he said "of course, we won't use it again for another person" LOL

(he was like O_O because this was the only question i had, xD )

  • i use to get told i can eat food and shit outa the hole.

  • I'm getting mine in august, my middle school nickname was "Mr. Titty"

  • how old r u?

  • I had the surgery last week, actually. Day 3 at home! First week went fine due to the constant presence of the epidural. Some moments of painfulness, but a good staff and drugs helped alot. This week, when I'm back home, was a bit different. With no epidural it is alot tougher to control the pain. As I write this I'm just sore in the mucles around the incisions, but any sort of stress on the body makes it a whole lot worse. So keeping it calm is golden. It's painful at the times, but I'll manage

  • Im a baseball player and I pitch a lot. If I was to get this surgery sometime soon how long would it be before I could start back pitching again? Btw-don't hate the name I'm on my gf's account lol

  • I've got P.E. since I was young but this year the problem became really important from a psychological point of view ( I'm 18 years old). Mine is only an estetical problem but in Italy (I'm Italian) the state pay for you also if you want surgery for psychological causes... I love pubblic healt... ah I'll be operated the 5th august of this year :)

  • excellent procedure ,proud to be a doctor

  • I'm gettin this done in 3 months and I'm freaking scares

  • Donald Nuss I fucking love you.

  • Im 13 and ive had it since i was born. I dont want the surgery tho but its getting bigger and deeper :\

  • @MURCLE9427

You dont have to scare just get accustomed to the thought slowly - you need it for the complete life

  • @MURCLE9427 Go and talk to a doctor about it. If the "hole" gets too big and deep, it might actually have negative effect on the heart and lung-activity. I got my surgery done in 2008, and I don't regret it one bit.

  • ÔI! xem mà sợ quá, tôi cũng bị lõm ngực nữa nè. nếu phẩu thuật thì không biết thế nào. nghĩ mà sợ quá! it 's awful. i fear blood and operations.

  • es tut weh, aber es hilft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • after the surgery can you play football what the doctors said????

  • @aleksandarreal

of couse half year after the surgery ( doctors say)

  • Unless this is hurting you i wouldnt suggest you get it done, i also have PE and mine at first made me uncomfortable with ppl but tell me when u take off your shirt it doesnt spring up a conversation, so many ppl think that ppl will be creeped out by it yet in fact they are just more interested, and when ur old enough its body shot central, god designed us to be partying machines look at it that way lol

  • I'm 18 years old from Kosovo (Albania). I will do this surgery soon in Turkey.. but I can't understand just How long the Pectus Bar will be in my chest? everything else looks great... :)

  • I had the surgery and it is one one the BEST decisions i have ever made !!! Not only am i happier with my self but im a physically more able to do thing i couldn't have other wise !!

  • why the hell am i watching this... now i dont ever want to get the surgery

man i hate having pectus excavatum

  • @GMFinntroll dude I watched it and got the surgery, I'm 14....you can do it lol

  • @GMFinntroll I've had this surgery and u wont feel a shit and its not even dangerous.. or ye some danger comes with all surgeries but ur stone high after so u wont feel anything at all.. all worth it :)

  • @Bonaqua1337 It actually is a fairly dangerous surgery if you base the fact they can puncture your heart or lungs or the epiduric catheter paralyzing you. But as my surgeon said the chance of that is smaller then the chance of you dying in a place crash. It's less the 1%. Biggest risk is allergic reaction and infections.

  • I hate having pectus, I want to get rid of it but im afraid of surgery and going through all that pain :(

  • doing this next month for free lol

  • aw...do i have to take the surgery to get rid of the dent :o?

  • any malformation u can say that is unfair. the point is that this is the perfect procedure for correction of p.e. those performed previously (ravitch) were a dissuster - a lot of pain and no results.

    Dr Nuss is great

  • Én pont ilyen műtéten voltam kb fél éve. Mit ne mondjak ami utána jön az maga a pokol. Üdv.

  • Én pont ilyen műtéten voltam kb fél éve. Mitne mondjak ami utána jön az maga a pokol. Üdv.

  • im now a month post Op and lemme tell you its the best thing i ever done in my life! im walking around again now. im like a toddler i can do a lot of things now but i also need a bit of help here n there and kept an eye on, lol. but its worth it, im waiting for summer to come around and i wont be weird to keep my top on in the heat. or pull out of football matches coz its skins n shirts. and go swimming :)

  • I'm a martial artist, and before the surgery I was really active and liked to exercise and spar with my friends. After the the surgery it sucked for me. They pulled my sternum 4 inches from where it was. I only had about a half an inch away from my spine. It was a drastic change that made me go through bouts off depression, and anger, and frustration. After about 4 months I was back on my feet in no time jumping around. I go to highschool and sometimes they can be quite rough up there,

  • @Xchovex Hello, does pectus excavatum make problems in martial arts, i can tell its mild or almost to none when i stick my chest out, i want to train karate or ninjutsu and i wonder does it creater problems in training... i remember i never could do the kind of 'push up' where you put your two hands on chair and go up and down because of pain in middle... and my legs' got short hamstrings which need to be stretched but oh well thats another problem :P

  • @Fafarona94 sorry to not get back in a while. It makes a severe impact in martial arts(concerning the physical parts. better in some ways for spiritual as for many surgery patient) A good part of martial arts is, of course, the sparing. The doctor's list of don'ts suggest exactly NOT to engage in physical fighting such as boxing or martial arts. This has made me have to rethink every intricate little details about the body and muscles...

  • I push up from my knees(wussy style) but I increase the reps( massively) to make up for it. Lower weight, more reps. I work out my back and arm muscles a lot. Not much I can do about my chest muscles. I have two bars, and have had the deepest chest(so far) in Virginia. my case was major. I'm actually much more stronger and can run longer, and keep up with my friends now that I have had the nuss procedure. I hope this helps if not. PM me and we can talk details.

  • I had it done three days ago. It's a bit weird as you can feel the bar inside you and it's pretty weird to breathe, but i'm sure it goes away by time. My chest looks great though, doctor did a great job!

  • @Lukeaduke200 umm try taking the 7 outta there! It's not nearly that expensive if it was no one would be able to afford it! Also insurance will usually cover it as long as they deem it medically necessary (which luckily mine is:p)

  • I have this, and i hate it. Im around 14 now, and i just hate taking off my shirt in public, and thís sucks because im actually quite thin. This looks very fucking painful though, so i guess i just have to hope that it doesnt get even worse.

  • My son had this done in 2006, when he was 9, had it taken out when he was 11...he is now 13 and it has collapsed once again, after all he had been through. It is very painful, especially the older you get, so I've heard. He would have to go through this all over again if he wants a "normal" looking chest, but he says he doesn't want to go through all the pain a second time, so I guess he has to live with it:( As long as it doesn't start affecting his heart and respiratory system again!

  • @tortillabaconchips I think it sank once again because he were to young.... if he had done it in the late teenage i dont think it would sink again.... because he had stopped growing then. but that's just a theori... i dont know

  • iv got the pectus excavatum and im 17 but its not to bad compared to others, iv just been refered to a hospital now but the doctor told me it looks like im havin this operation can anyone tell me if its painful afterwards ?

  • @anypoerir its not really painful actually... feel pressure tho it is alot of fun chillin and resting

  • Gahh I gotta have this done in the next few months. It looks like they are soo rough. Gahh this is gonna suck ass.

  • I am fifty two years old and have this but thesurgery was not avalable when I was younger.I wish I could have had it. My son had the surgery in mayo clinic in Rochester and is doing well. It is hereditary and your children have a fifty percent chance of having it.

  • From a guy who just had this...all i got to say is OOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW

  • everyone with pectus excavatum ..... thank you

i get bullied almost everysingle day because of my chest and the only way i get through it is knowing that im not the only one the chest like this so hears to you

the brave people who have this deformity

  • I live in sweden and i have to wait 4 years for this!! :O but it's free :)

  • This shit looks like it fuckin hurts!

  • I'm lucky. I live in denmark, and we have free surgery. And i have pectus excavatum. I'm lucky :)

  • @2424Andy God, I wish I lived in Denmark. USA's Healthcare SUCKS.

  • @Terribleclaw2015 we pay school, hospital visits, and more, over tax. I think thats great. and as I said, i'm luckey. And I feel sorry for all of you that dont have money,or just want if for free, and have to pay. I really do!! but i'm 13 years old, so :) I really dont know so much about it

  • i have a haller index of 5.7 and have chest pain as well as i fatigue very quickly despite being well conditioned and yet i have been denied by insurance twice

  • @925Productions That's American Healthcare, all right.

  • pectus excavatum has ruined my social life aswell !

  • @skuxx2deff69 Me too.

  • @Lakers3315 it took me about 3 weeks ot be pain free and only sleep on your back.

  • anybody have this on the the left side of there chest because the result sucks

  • fuck! they really did this to me!omg! I feel weird now.

  • @albertobebes haha i know.. i watched it before.. and now watching it after and feeling the bar in me.. it really makes me realize...

  • isnt pectus unfair? people with pectus have to go through all this to have a normal chest, while others were born normal. It keeps me thinking "why me". But i look at it this way people with pectus are 1 in 1000 children i think, im a rare guy lol. were rare people.

  • @xIReliable mate im a fellow rare person! haha but soon i wont be im having it fixed. and 17 years in my life can begin. i might actually swim for once now! lol

  • @xIReliable

that and we have extreme everyday-problem management skills. i almost killed my ex when she cried over a burnt pizza. i mean WHAT THE HELL

maybe ill consider.. this condition is basically the reason i pushed away that same girl, and the tension is so strange now. i dont know how to confront her anymore, she didnt care but i kind of feel like its my cross to bare and i wont impose that on anyone. perhaps the nuss bar would be a better and more temporary cross to bare...

  • @xIReliable U'r right :D

  • @xIReliable

I had this twice. It sucked. TWICE. i had a recurrence, and i have 2 of these inside me. They will be out in December.

  • @xIReliable fuck yeah :D

  • @xIReliable god wants us to learn something.

bullshit last summer i wished every time i woke up i had a normal chest and it was all a nightmare

im 16 my surgery is planned for december 2011

  • @xIReliable Im a girl and i have pectus excavatum, i guess im even rarer ahah

  • @xIReliable ya man! we rock

  • well june 21st i got this Procedure done and if you are thinking about doing it def do it sooo worth it :D the pain was minor nothing real painfull only thing that hurt was siting up and coughing so lol

  • @Lagaming - how old are you and who did your pectus procedure?

  • Getting this sometime soon this year XD

  • I had this done.. it hurt like hell, but it was the best decision of my life!

it really saved my social life :)

now i'm just looking forward to have it out again in a few months.

  • nossa em penssar que eu vou fazer essa cirurgia e to vendo oque eles fazem nossa acho que vo perder a coragem do corregir meu pectus =(

  • My husband has it and it effects very little in his life. He and his Dr. see no medical reason for him to have it done. It has never effected any other part of his life other then wanting to join the military. If someone needs it for medical reasons that is understandable but to have it done strictly for cosmetic reasons is ridiculous! Why go through all that major pain and up to 2 years of healing for looks when it may not work the 1st time? If people don't like you for who you are screw them!

  • I may be getting this surgery this summer. I'm kinda scared.

  • @garykn23489 If yours is anything like mine, the surgery can't be as bad as getting the piss taken out of you constantly. I'm sure you'll feel it's worth it in the long run. :)

  • I have pectus carinatum.. but i guess it's almost the same thing? Should i go to the surgery? I feel so much pain in my chest, and it feels that knife is inside of me.. Sometimes i'm getting feeling that i can't breathe.. I have question from those who has been in surgery. Please do not laugh.. Did they catheterizate you? If yes, did it hurt much? Because i'm afraid of it.. :/

  • @Pokemonholos catherization yes.. they do it.. the chest pain hurts very much so.. i will not lie to you.. but pain meds and things help verry much..

  • DAMNNN OWWWW!!!!!Iim having second thoughts about getting this surgery!Seriously though to people who have had this done whats the afterward pain and results?

  • @lozahas: You will receive major pain medications for it but it can take up to 2 years to fully heal. In some cases the PE Surgery doesn't work and the patients chest goes back to the way it was before surgery. If it is medically needed I would recommend getting it.

  • fuck its like butchering damnn

  • God Bless Dr. Nuss!

  • @FFAGLITCHES where u having it done? i am having the nuss procedure done on the NHS on May 21st.

  • @pectus2010 how old are you?! i have this im 16 and i went doctors before they said i dno what it is. but now i see you have it on NHS im going to fight for this surgey its a fucking life destroyer!

  • @pectus2010 how old are you? just i wanna have it done aswell and what symptoms did you have to have it done, like was it compressing your breathing ?

  • is this video sped up? because it doesn't look like they are being very careful if it's not..

  • I have Pectus Excavatum and it sucks. It has ruined my social life. I want the surgery, but my insurance is crap.

  • @Blueraptor3030 totally agree mate. i love swimmign but that can fuck off right now! i wont do it until i had it done.you from the US aswell?

  • @Blueraptor3030 Here in France I get this for free... xD

  • @Blueraptor3030 same here man.

  • @Blueraptor3030 i feel so bad for u cuz in canada its free and ik its 475 grand in phili which is ridiculous.. i am so sorry. i had it done but yeah maybe try coming to canada... move here or something but yeah I AM SOOO SORRY MAN!

  • @Lukeaduke200 bulshit its free here!

  • @Blueraptor3030 i got this chirurgy 30 years ago and now wow. i lost my sternum and you can see my heart beat trough my body. Even after this operation i have a normal life. Married with beautiful wife and im martials art champs. Bodybulding help a lot also. how old are you?

  • @Blueraptor3030 Shiriners Hospital does it for free, I had the surgery done and i did not need to pay a single cent. They will do it for you to!!!!!!

  • @Blueraptor3030 In Norway, we get this operation for free. I am gonna get it this summer.

Looks like HELL! =( I am NOT looking forward to it at all!

  • @Blueraptor3030 I know how you feel. Two years ago we went through all the necessary steps up to picking a surgery date. My insurance said "its not lethal enough" so we had to wait till now. We have a different insurance and I'm getting the procedure done the day after tomorrow. Keep fighting it. You will be able to live how you want again:)

  • I will do this in about 1 year when i am 17. In sweden this is free under 18.

  • I don't believe the end result pictures without the boys' faces. How do you know they are the same kid? One of those boy's chest looked to normal to have once had PE.

Why isn't YouTube in HD? You might be able to tell from their nipples.

  • Fuck my deformity,im a linebacker.I don't give a shit if it looks weird.Fuck the world,not my life.

  • Im going for this operation at the end of june this year. kinda worried now after watching this. Can someone give me a little info please =S and how much difference it made. Thanks

  • @Ab4seBlooDrain The surgery is mildly evasive. Ur only in hospital for a few days. Im going for this soon too. Im a little nervous but its for the best. Just to let you know, nobody has died from this procedure. Its not as bad as it looks. Be happy that ur gonna get it though because people have died from NOT getting the operation.

  • im from the philippines, and i have a moderate pectus excavatum. do u think there is a hospital in the philippines that do this nuss procedure???

Another question, how musch is this nuss procedure???PLSS reply ASAP

  • think im getting nigtmares post-op and pre-op T_T

  • this procedure is amazing! We have come so far in so many areas of medicine. I can't believethey can do this with out going through the rib cage, amazing!

  • I'm 25 and I'm due to have this procedure done soon... I'm panicking now after watching this :S

  • @andresf1984 agreed T_T

  • u cant only do running dude u have to do breathing exercises , dumbbell flys , and push ups , breathing exercises is the most easiest 1 to do any where any time , running helps the chest slightly not that much but it still does . if any 1 needs help pm me

  • @Xy1on no use... we get occasional chest pains.. u dont understand us D:<

  • verry good

  • aye yo surgery aint the only answer and this goes to every 1 its called pectus excavatum exercise,4 things , breathing , working out , running , posture .... if u need help and u keep thinking about surgery dont do it its so dumb they just want ur money guys.... pm me if u want tips i got a link

  • Unfortunately that won't help me as I passed out and almost died at a gym without any idea. Chest compression + Asthma = Heart complication instantly.

  • @Lakers3315 i forget you have to pay for this in american =[

  • That kid is strong cuz watching that was scary =/

  • I am 15 and I have PE :(

    Is this surgery painful?

    Cos It kinda looks it.

  • @ebbisnake no man dont be afraid. i was pe too . surgery is not painful.i have undergo this operation. it takes aproximately 2 hours and after that you should stay in hospital at least 5 days. in the end you will be free and happy ;)

  • @ebbisnake yh no doubt it would be but worth it in the end for sure, im trynig to get it done now

  • well, i had PE, and the time after first surgery was fucked up. felt a lot of pain. and well. maybe it doesnt suck as much in america. so gl. (i was 15too when i had surgery, now im 17 and im having that bar removal surgery in month and a half. ur not alone so dont worry. :)

  • @ebbisnake It's not for the most part. The hardest part is the two week recovery you have to take at home. You have to take pain pills every 2-4 hours, and you're week for most. After that, and you regain most of your strength back, everything becomes so much easier. I highly recommend it, and 9/10 times, in surance will pay for it. And that 1/10, the hospital will find a way to get them to pay for it anyways.

  • I just found out that my 10 yr old daughter has this today,Her doctor says its not that bad. Thank God!

  • I had this procedure done when I was 14 years old, and although the recovery can be pretty painful, it was definitely worth it.

My chest looks completely normal now!

  • @bbrainmonkey do u know how much it cost without insurance?

  • @seezer2367 At least $40,000

  • a la mierda eso duele

  • I was operated on this way but I still had the bar crooked

  • get the surgery i had it and it hurts but it is worth it

  • I am 14 and i have pectus excavatum.

I am so happy that i can do an operation like this!

I didn't even know the name of that hole between my chest!

It's the worst thing on my body! I fuckin hate it! I don't care if there is a bar for 2-3 years in my chest!

  • same thing bro , im 14 too , i dont kno if i want this , im kinda scared

  • I don't know if anyone can help but I have this condition and thinking about the surgery, I'm really worried about the pain afterwards and worried because last time I had my apendic out I was in the high deprndence unit because me breathing thing was at 60 and was ment to be 99-100. Does anyone think this could lead to problems.

I really want this done as I feel so uncomfortable with my body.

  • If you are talking about 60 as in regards to 60% lung capacity, this surgery could very well fit that. Before I had this surgery, my breathing capacity was at only 50% because of the compression of my lungs. Afterwards, it is totally normal.

I would recommend talking to your doctor about your condition and going to see a specialist. They will be able to tell you of you are a valid candidate for the surgery, and answer any of your questions about pain, etc.

    Good luck!

  • Quisiera saber si en colombia exista quien haga esta cirugia mi caso no es tan grave quizas una operacion correctiva o cosmetica pero cada caso es diferente si alguien conoce quien en colombia hace este tipo de cirugias favor escribir gracias

  • I had this done about 2 years ago. Im from the UK and managed to get it on the NHS. After the op you have a morphine drip which goes in via the epidural. Your pretty groggy when you wake up, and i threw up a couple of times after just cos of all the drugs your on. But you start feeling better everyday, and i was out in about 4 or 5 days.

I had a few problems with pain afterwards, cos i think as you grow it moves about a bit, but i have to say i think it was totally worth it!

  • i will be having this soon but im getting scare..

  • if u ever had your wisdom teeth out its exactly the same, u get knocked out, u wake up hrs later and feel nothing, and the procedure only takes a few mins =)

  • I find great operation because it has helped me, I feel better and my chest looks better

  • Thanks dr. Nuss!

  • I'm actually glad i watched this. I have pectus and want to be a doctor. This will be a great experience for me.

  • Do you think this is available on the NHS for primarily cosmetic reasons?

  • im glad i was out of it couse i did not want to feel them flip two bars in my chest. other then a few damaged nerve endings...i think it looks great. theses 4 yrs went by fast......NOT!!!!!!

  • Omg this too scary, I'm going to just live with mine and stick to exercises thank you very much.

  • What about the long term possible heart problems?

  • word up lol

  • hey. i'm 15 and on friday im going to be meeting the surgeon to plan the date to get the surgery. im really excited to get this done because i'm really into soccer and the running up and down the field kills me after about 5 minutes and its awful being the first one subbed. i really hate having the pectum..(which i call a hole) but watching this video made me a little bit nervous. i'm afraid that i will wake up in the middle of surgery. is that even possible with all the anesthesia?
