@vmourad91 Hey Mate, I'm from Australia to. There used to be a Dr called Dr. Goldbatt whom was the best in Australia he was In Melbourne he is retired now though. Your best bets are Dr.Aludist in Melbourne or travelling up to Sydney and seeing the Dr who is doing my surgery. Pro. Chard. For the best info visit the "Pectus Info Board" just google it.
the worse thing for me(got mine august 1st 14 years old) was the laughing part when i got home, it hurt to laugh and also the catheder wasnt so fun when it got taken out
I never imagined I'd ever get the surgery but I just got it a few weeks ago on December 15 of 2011. They hooked me up with an IV and my epidural and sent me down the hall to a different room where they put me under anesthesia and I fell asleep. Next thing I knew I had a perfect chest. I stayed there for a week and now I'm home and still recovering. I can walk around just fine now and I'm still on pain meds but it went incredibly well. If you're afraid to get the surgery DON'T BE.
had this done in August, and i was released after a week. I had a common problem (pneumothorax) but that fixed itself, so luckily i didnt have none of the chesty-sucky tubey thing... The worst bit for me was weening off the painkillers, as they had me pumped of every opiate known to man. the withdrawal was horrendous. The op was a breeze compared to that.
Guys I am selling a vacuum bell for treatment for pectus excavatum. I live in California go to ebay and paste this in the search box 150709818790 its the item number. The bell is new and listed cheap.
i had mine done last month, omg the pain is crazy!! miss being able to sleep on my belly. but im really happy with the results ive had 2 operations in the past that didnt work so had the nuss done (making it my 3rd) im just glad its finally all done.. just got to heal now
Hello ... i'm doing this in Christmas time... i'm fourteen ( yeah , i lied so i could watch the video, but i need it to ) , i'm portuguese, so my english kinda sucks (:
I'm really nervous, but i'm also excited. So, i'm really afraid of the pain.
anyone who has done it can tell me how to deal with the pain? PLEASE PEOPLE, help me :(
is there anyone here who got 2 bars inserted?i got only one. but now i wish i had 2 bars inserted. my lower part of ribs is still fucked up. going through all this pain was so..so hard. and yeah, people with pectus should feed special . WE ARE SPECIAL AND STRONGER THAN NORMAL PEOPLE
@redneckemothing The first question i asked to the surgeron was i i can keep my bar after the 3 years (i wasn't opered yet) and he said "of course, we won't use it again for another person" LOL
(he was like O_O because this was the only question i had, xD )
I had the surgery last week, actually. Day 3 at home! First week went fine due to the constant presence of the epidural. Some moments of painfulness, but a good staff and drugs helped alot. This week, when I'm back home, was a bit different. With no epidural it is alot tougher to control the pain. As I write this I'm just sore in the mucles around the incisions, but any sort of stress on the body makes it a whole lot worse. So keeping it calm is golden. It's painful at the times, but I'll manage
Im a baseball player and I pitch a lot. If I was to get this surgery sometime soon how long would it be before I could start back pitching again? Btw-don't hate the name I'm on my gf's account lol
I've got P.E. since I was young but this year the problem became really important from a psychological point of view ( I'm 18 years old). Mine is only an estetical problem but in Italy (I'm Italian) the state pay for you also if you want surgery for psychological causes... I love pubblic healt... ah I'll be operated the 5th august of this year :)
@MURCLE9427 Go and talk to a doctor about it. If the "hole" gets too big and deep, it might actually have negative effect on the heart and lung-activity. I got my surgery done in 2008, and I don't regret it one bit.
Unless this is hurting you i wouldnt suggest you get it done, i also have PE and mine at first made me uncomfortable with ppl but tell me when u take off your shirt it doesnt spring up a conversation, so many ppl think that ppl will be creeped out by it yet in fact they are just more interested, and when ur old enough its body shot central, god designed us to be partying machines look at it that way lol
I'm 18 years old from Kosovo (Albania). I will do this surgery soon in Turkey.. but I can't understand just How long the Pectus Bar will be in my chest? everything else looks great... :)
I had the surgery and it is one one the BEST decisions i have ever made !!! Not only am i happier with my self but im a physically more able to do thing i couldn't have other wise !!
@GMFinntroll I've had this surgery and u wont feel a shit and its not even dangerous.. or ye some danger comes with all surgeries but ur stone high after so u wont feel anything at all.. all worth it :)
@Bonaqua1337 It actually is a fairly dangerous surgery if you base the fact they can puncture your heart or lungs or the epiduric catheter paralyzing you. But as my surgeon said the chance of that is smaller then the chance of you dying in a place crash. It's less the 1%. Biggest risk is allergic reaction and infections.
any malformation u can say that is unfair. the point is that this is the perfect procedure for correction of p.e. those performed previously (ravitch) were a dissuster - a lot of pain and no results.
im now a month post Op and lemme tell you its the best thing i ever done in my life! im walking around again now. im like a toddler i can do a lot of things now but i also need a bit of help here n there and kept an eye on, lol. but its worth it, im waiting for summer to come around and i wont be weird to keep my top on in the heat. or pull out of football matches coz its skins n shirts. and go swimming :)
I'm a martial artist, and before the surgery I was really active and liked to exercise and spar with my friends. After the the surgery it sucked for me. They pulled my sternum 4 inches from where it was. I only had about a half an inch away from my spine. It was a drastic change that made me go through bouts off depression, and anger, and frustration. After about 4 months I was back on my feet in no time jumping around. I go to highschool and sometimes they can be quite rough up there,
@Xchovex Hello, does pectus excavatum make problems in martial arts, i can tell its mild or almost to none when i stick my chest out, i want to train karate or ninjutsu and i wonder does it creater problems in training... i remember i never could do the kind of 'push up' where you put your two hands on chair and go up and down because of pain in middle... and my legs' got short hamstrings which need to be stretched but oh well thats another problem :P
@Fafarona94 sorry to not get back in a while. It makes a severe impact in martial arts(concerning the physical parts. better in some ways for spiritual as for many surgery patient) A good part of martial arts is, of course, the sparing. The doctor's list of don'ts suggest exactly NOT to engage in physical fighting such as boxing or martial arts. This has made me have to rethink every intricate little details about the body and muscles...
I push up from my knees(wussy style) but I increase the reps( massively) to make up for it. Lower weight, more reps. I work out my back and arm muscles a lot. Not much I can do about my chest muscles. I have two bars, and have had the deepest chest(so far) in Virginia. my case was major. I'm actually much more stronger and can run longer, and keep up with my friends now that I have had the nuss procedure. I hope this helps if not. PM me and we can talk details.
I had it done three days ago. It's a bit weird as you can feel the bar inside you and it's pretty weird to breathe, but i'm sure it goes away by time. My chest looks great though, doctor did a great job!
@Lukeaduke200 umm try taking the 7 outta there! It's not nearly that expensive if it was no one would be able to afford it! Also insurance will usually cover it as long as they deem it medically necessary (which luckily mine is:p)
I have this, and i hate it. Im around 14 now, and i just hate taking off my shirt in public, and thís sucks because im actually quite thin. This looks very fucking painful though, so i guess i just have to hope that it doesnt get even worse.
My son had this done in 2006, when he was 9, had it taken out when he was 11...he is now 13 and it has collapsed once again, after all he had been through. It is very painful, especially the older you get, so I've heard. He would have to go through this all over again if he wants a "normal" looking chest, but he says he doesn't want to go through all the pain a second time, so I guess he has to live with it:( As long as it doesn't start affecting his heart and respiratory system again!
@tortillabaconchips I think it sank once again because he were to young.... if he had done it in the late teenage i dont think it would sink again.... because he had stopped growing then. but that's just a theori... i dont know
iv got the pectus excavatum and im 17 but its not to bad compared to others, iv just been refered to a hospital now but the doctor told me it looks like im havin this operation can anyone tell me if its painful afterwards ?
I am fifty two years old and have this but thesurgery was not avalable when I was younger.I wish I could have had it. My son had the surgery in mayo clinic in Rochester and is doing well. It is hereditary and your children have a fifty percent chance of having it.
i get bullied almost everysingle day because of my chest and the only way i get through it is knowing that im not the only one the chest like this so hears to you
@Terribleclaw2015 we pay school, hospital visits, and more, over tax. I think thats great. and as I said, i'm luckey. And I feel sorry for all of you that dont have money,or just want if for free, and have to pay. I really do!! but i'm 13 years old, so :) I really dont know so much about it
i have a haller index of 5.7 and have chest pain as well as i fatigue very quickly despite being well conditioned and yet i have been denied by insurance twice
isnt pectus unfair? people with pectus have to go through all this to have a normal chest, while others were born normal. It keeps me thinking "why me". But i look at it this way people with pectus are 1 in 1000 children i think, im a rare guy lol. were rare people.
@xIReliable mate im a fellow rare person! haha but soon i wont be im having it fixed. and 17 years in my life can begin. i might actually swim for once now! lol
that and we have extreme everyday-problem management skills. i almost killed my ex when she cried over a burnt pizza. i mean WHAT THE HELL
maybe ill consider.. this condition is basically the reason i pushed away that same girl, and the tension is so strange now. i dont know how to confront her anymore, she didnt care but i kind of feel like its my cross to bare and i wont impose that on anyone. perhaps the nuss bar would be a better and more temporary cross to bare...
well june 21st i got this Procedure done and if you are thinking about doing it def do it sooo worth it :D the pain was minor nothing real painfull only thing that hurt was siting up and coughing so lol
My husband has it and it effects very little in his life. He and his Dr. see no medical reason for him to have it done. It has never effected any other part of his life other then wanting to join the military. If someone needs it for medical reasons that is understandable but to have it done strictly for cosmetic reasons is ridiculous! Why go through all that major pain and up to 2 years of healing for looks when it may not work the 1st time? If people don't like you for who you are screw them!
@garykn23489 If yours is anything like mine, the surgery can't be as bad as getting the piss taken out of you constantly. I'm sure you'll feel it's worth it in the long run. :)
I have pectus carinatum.. but i guess it's almost the same thing? Should i go to the surgery? I feel so much pain in my chest, and it feels that knife is inside of me.. Sometimes i'm getting feeling that i can't breathe.. I have question from those who has been in surgery. Please do not laugh.. Did they catheterizate you? If yes, did it hurt much? Because i'm afraid of it.. :/
DAMNNN OWWWW!!!!!Iim having second thoughts about getting this surgery!Seriously though to people who have had this done whats the afterward pain and results?
@lozahas: You will receive major pain medications for it but it can take up to 2 years to fully heal. In some cases the PE Surgery doesn't work and the patients chest goes back to the way it was before surgery. If it is medically needed I would recommend getting it.
@pectus2010 how old are you?! i have this im 16 and i went doctors before they said i dno what it is. but now i see you have it on NHS im going to fight for this surgey its a fucking life destroyer!
@pectus2010 how old are you? just i wanna have it done aswell and what symptoms did you have to have it done, like was it compressing your breathing ?
@Blueraptor3030 i feel so bad for u cuz in canada its free and ik its 475 grand in phili which is ridiculous.. i am so sorry. i had it done but yeah maybe try coming to canada... move here or something but yeah I AM SOOO SORRY MAN!
@Blueraptor3030 i got this chirurgy 30 years ago and now wow. i lost my sternum and you can see my heart beat trough my body. Even after this operation i have a normal life. Married with beautiful wife and im martials art champs. Bodybulding help a lot also. how old are you?
@Blueraptor3030 I know how you feel. Two years ago we went through all the necessary steps up to picking a surgery date. My insurance said "its not lethal enough" so we had to wait till now. We have a different insurance and I'm getting the procedure done the day after tomorrow. Keep fighting it. You will be able to live how you want again:)
I don't believe the end result pictures without the boys' faces. How do you know they are the same kid? One of those boy's chest looked to normal to have once had PE.
Why isn't YouTube in HD? You might be able to tell from their nipples.
Im going for this operation at the end of june this year. kinda worried now after watching this. Can someone give me a little info please =S and how much difference it made. Thanks
@Ab4seBlooDrain The surgery is mildly evasive. Ur only in hospital for a few days. Im going for this soon too. Im a little nervous but its for the best. Just to let you know, nobody has died from this procedure. Its not as bad as it looks. Be happy that ur gonna get it though because people have died from NOT getting the operation.
this procedure is amazing! We have come so far in so many areas of medicine. I can't believethey can do this with out going through the rib cage, amazing!
u cant only do running dude u have to do breathing exercises , dumbbell flys , and push ups , breathing exercises is the most easiest 1 to do any where any time , running helps the chest slightly not that much but it still does . if any 1 needs help pm me
aye yo surgery aint the only answer and this goes to every 1 its called pectus excavatum exercise,4 things , breathing , working out , running , posture .... if u need help and u keep thinking about surgery dont do it its so dumb they just want ur money guys.... pm me if u want tips i got a link
Unfortunately that won't help me as I passed out and almost died at a gym without any idea. Chest compression + Asthma = Heart complication instantly.
@ebbisnake no man dont be afraid. i was pe too . surgery is not painful.i have undergo this operation. it takes aproximately 2 hours and after that you should stay in hospital at least 5 days. in the end you will be free and happy ;)
well, i had PE, and the time after first surgery was fucked up. felt a lot of pain. and well. maybe it doesnt suck as much in america. so gl. (i was 15too when i had surgery, now im 17 and im having that bar removal surgery in month and a half. ur not alone so dont worry. :)
@ebbisnake It's not for the most part. The hardest part is the two week recovery you have to take at home. You have to take pain pills every 2-4 hours, and you're week for most. After that, and you regain most of your strength back, everything becomes so much easier. I highly recommend it, and 9/10 times, in surance will pay for it. And that 1/10, the hospital will find a way to get them to pay for it anyways.
I don't know if anyone can help but I have this condition and thinking about the surgery, I'm really worried about the pain afterwards and worried because last time I had my apendic out I was in the high deprndence unit because me breathing thing was at 60 and was ment to be 99-100. Does anyone think this could lead to problems.
I really want this done as I feel so uncomfortable with my body.
If you are talking about 60 as in regards to 60% lung capacity, this surgery could very well fit that. Before I had this surgery, my breathing capacity was at only 50% because of the compression of my lungs. Afterwards, it is totally normal.
I would recommend talking to your doctor about your condition and going to see a specialist. They will be able to tell you of you are a valid candidate for the surgery, and answer any of your questions about pain, etc.
Quisiera saber si en colombia exista quien haga esta cirugia mi caso no es tan grave quizas una operacion correctiva o cosmetica pero cada caso es diferente si alguien conoce quien en colombia hace este tipo de cirugias favor escribir gracias
I had this done about 2 years ago. Im from the UK and managed to get it on the NHS. After the op you have a morphine drip which goes in via the epidural. Your pretty groggy when you wake up, and i threw up a couple of times after just cos of all the drugs your on. But you start feeling better everyday, and i was out in about 4 or 5 days.
I had a few problems with pain afterwards, cos i think as you grow it moves about a bit, but i have to say i think it was totally worth it!
if u ever had your wisdom teeth out its exactly the same, u get knocked out, u wake up hrs later and feel nothing, and the procedure only takes a few mins =)
im glad i was out of it couse i did not want to feel them flip two bars in my chest. other then a few damaged nerve endings...i think it looks great. theses 4 yrs went by fast......NOT!!!!!!
hey. i'm 15 and on friday im going to be meeting the surgeon to plan the date to get the surgery. im really excited to get this done because i'm really into soccer and the running up and down the field kills me after about 5 minutes and its awful being the first one subbed. i really hate having the pectum..(which i call a hole) but watching this video made me a little bit nervous. i'm afraid that i will wake up in the middle of surgery. is that even possible with all the anesthesia?
so im 21 this year, in melbourne australia... whos got in done in melbourne and who is the best doctor to do it!!! HELP

I have this, and i hate it. Im around 14 now, and i just hate taking off my shirt in public, and thís sucks because im actually quite thin. This looks very fucking painful though, so i guess i just have to hope that it doesnt get even worse.
fedesen6 1 year ago
My son had this done in 2006, when he was 9, had it taken out when he was 11...he is now 13 and it has collapsed once again, after all he had been through. It is very painful, especially the older you get, so I've heard. He would have to go through this all over again if he wants a "normal" looking chest, but he says he doesn't want to go through all the pain a second time, so I guess he has to live with it:( As long as it doesn't start affecting his heart and respiratory system again!

@tortillabaconchips I think it sank once again because he were to young.... if he had done it in the late teenage i dont think it would sink again.... because he had stopped growing then. but that's just a theori... i dont know

isnt pectus unfair? people with pectus have to go through all this to have a normal chest, while others were born normal. It keeps me thinking "why me". But i look at it this way people with pectus are 1 in 1000 children i think, im a rare guy lol. were rare people.

MrDaviddust 1 year ago
My husband has it and it effects very little in his life. He and his Dr. see no medical reason for him to have it done. It has never effected any other part of his life other then wanting to join the military. If someone needs it for medical reasons that is understandable but to have it done strictly for cosmetic reasons is ridiculous! Why go through all that major pain and up to 2 years of healing for looks when it may not work the 1st time? If people don't like you for who you are screw them!

@Pokemonholos catherization yes.. they do it.. the chest pain hurts very much so.. i will not lie to you.. but pain meds and things help verry much..

DAMNNN OWWWW!!!!!Iim having second thoughts about getting this surgery!Seriously though to people who have had this done whats the afterward pain and results?
lozahas 1 year ago
@lozahas: You will receive major pain medications for it but it can take up to 2 years to fully heal. In some cases the PE Surgery doesn't work and the patients chest goes back to the way it was before surgery. If it is medically needed I would recommend getting it.

well, i had PE, and the time after first surgery was fucked up. felt a lot of pain. and well. maybe it doesnt suck as much in america. so gl. (i was 15too when i had surgery, now im 17 and im having that bar removal surgery in month and a half. ur not alone so dont worry. :)
petriukas20 2 years ago

04rcollins 2 years ago
If you are talking about 60 as in regards to 60% lung capacity, this surgery could very well fit that. Before I had this surgery, my breathing capacity was at only 50% because of the compression of my lungs. Afterwards, it is totally normal.
I would recommend talking to your doctor about your condition and going to see a specialist. They will be able to tell you of you are a valid candidate for the surgery, and answer any of your questions about pain, etc.
Good luck!
