The time you qouted is from a magazine test Auto Bild with thier driver, not a factory driven car. Just look further up and take a look at the 2008 times.

Not that the zl1 is not a cool car it's just at a weight disadvantage on a long track.

Chevy should build a Z28 version with a really stout small block - 350ci/400hp - and tighten up that suspension so that it can really take those turns. That heavy engine along with that heavy chassis makes the thing plow like a truck; you can hear it. If they tuned the suspension for racing and put slicks on it they would have done better. I guess it is fine for a street car but the 60's Zs were built for that abuse from the factory. I can imagine a brand new - not a resto - 69 Z on that track.

@Rawrtrigga The performance engineer in this case was not only a professional driver, but provides direct input into tuning the car for the track. They've been using the Nurburging to get things like the Magnetic Ride Control for the suspension set up. This was using the setup #4 of 5...5 being the "Holy Crap! All the safeties are off" mode.
