At the start of Assassin's Creed II, it's said that one of Altaïr's great-great-grandsons fled Masyaf with the Codex and fled to Italy, and somewhere along the lines the Codex ended up in the hands of Dante Alighieri, and Altaïr's descendants took up the surname "Audiotore", whose meaning I forget, and several generations later, the Creed was resurrected by Giovanni and Mario Auditore. Ezio is Altaïr's descendant. Draw a timeline if you have to.

So, if Altiar and Ezio aren't related..... How can Ezio unlock Altiars memories during the game as apposed to Desmond activating them in the animus..... Also I'm sure that Ezio refers to Altiar as being his ancestor at some point, but don't quote me on that, I could be wrong.

For everyone saying that they are all related; they aren't. Altair and Ezio don't share a family link, yet it is possible that later down the track their families converged to produce Desmond.

If you remember at the start of AC2, they actually needed to download Ezio's data; which means Desmond is more related to Altair than Ezio.
