  • Hi Lisa, I am learning so much from your videos. Thank you! I put my sponges in a lingerie bags and throw them in the washing machine. Then I let them air dry, works for me.

    Bon Bon

  • Hi Lisa, I watched most of your videos and love them all. I found something to clean the sponges and not sure you have already tried. Is a hand soap from "the Masters" it is suppose to clean grease paint etc from the hands. It is incredible on the the brushes too. i bought it in Micheals. as you said in this video you have ever been able to clean your sponges i thought you might be interested.

  • Great tips!! Thanks;)

  • At events we have to have a cup with water, a cup with soap and water and a cup with disenfectant and after each child we have to clean each brush in each substance. I know tiedious right..but it is manditory so we do it...lol I do like the wipe idea for shape thanks!!! Pluse for the rainbow cakes too! Thanks lisa, oh and I use a back pack for my supplies because If I want to carry a chair and table my arms are free.

  • Hi, for sponges I use a lingerie bag for my sponges, I put the whole bag in the washer when I get home with laundery soap and bleach to disenfect, hot water too. Sometimes I air dry sometimes I put in dryer but they all get cleaned at the same time :) I learnrd this from Lis Mortlock she is great!! Pluse here in Alberta we are not alloud to use the same brush or sponge on diffrent children unless we clean them between children. Health and saftey is very strict here. At events we have to clean..

  • I rolled my zip lock sponge bags up and used a small hole punch to make holes in a couple of rows - one its unrolled it has holes all the way down then I don't have to worry as much if a clean sponge goes in a bit wet - it will dry with all the air circulation

  • @droifur Great idea - running to get my hole punch now :)

  • How much do u charge for partys, based on what? i was asked to do a party and didnt know how much to charge them

  • @hanadikabbani1 I have a whole video on this. Check out "Q & A: Deciding Your Rates." It should answer any questions you have about how much to charge.

  • Your videos have really been helpful! =] Im trying to learn to do my daughters birthday and future birthdays for my nieces and nephews

  • Also Lisa could you give prices that you should charge? How does that work?

  • Thank you very much for your videos. I was wondering if you could do a video on the brushes you use. I am so overwhelmed with all the brush choices, brands, etc... And would love some guidance in this area.

    Mahalo

  • Hi Lisa where do you purchase your Sponges from

  • @BrittnyDS I can't remember the store off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure I mentioned where I got them on my "Face Painting Products I Love and Hate" video, so you might want to check that out :)

  • Very very useful

  • Hi Lisa...what kind if bag do you use to carry all your supplies in.. I bought a Skinny Fat Max, its ok BUT a little too bulky for me....The way I ckean my sponges is I do the same as you except for one extra step i put the sponges in a container with a cap full of bleach I let that sit all night to kill bacteria, it takes most of the color out but still some remains in the morning I wash again with soap and water they look great and I don`t worry about contamination. It works for me.

  • Thanks Lisa for this video. I notice that you didn't put any lids back on your paints....don't they dry out if you do this, or does the case keep them fresh?

  • @88jocool They do get harder over time, but that doesn't bother me because they still work the same when activated with water. The only time that the hardness can become a problem is if you plan on making rainbow cakes with some of your older paints. Because they've hardened, it makes it difficult to cut them into pieces without them crumbling.

  • Where do you get your paint from??? :) <3333

  • Love the baby wipe idea for cleaning brushes. We go through way too much water which is heavy to carry with :). Try rubbing your sponge tips on IVORY SOAP, it will make your sponges look brand new!! We need to get case for brushes like yours. Never see them at art store (micheals), so did you get that off the Internet? Thanks Lisa, we always live your work, designs, and your videos are the best by far. /Richard/~Kilpatrick kreative design~

  • @thekilpatrickcompany I got my brush case at Micheal's, but I got it four years ago, so they might not sell it anymore. Thanks for the tip about the Ivory soap. I'll have to try it!

  • Loved seeing your kit bag on wheels. I tried finding a plastic container to fit everything and it was so bulky and I could never fit it all. But I think I have seen the one I saw in your video at Joanne's Fabric or Michael's. Where did you get yours?

  • I have used Awesome cleaner purchased from the Dollar Tree in order to get most of the stains from my sponges....I rinse them first as you do but add a few drops of the cleaner to get out the majority of the stains then wash them with the dish soap and rinse again. Just a suggestion! Great videos!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • I do the same but also use the brush bath stuff from silly farm. I really love it cause it seems to go very far.

  • I keep a travel soap box with a bar of Ivory in my paint supplies. I wash both my sponges and brushes with it. A friend who's an artist taught me to wash brushes like this: Swipe the brush on the bar to load it with soap. Use your thumbnail and scrape from the ferrule to the tip of the bristles. Rinse. Repeat if necessary. Paper towel dry and then swipe the bristles over the bar of soap again to load with soap. Then reshape with your fingers. The soap will help keep the shape of the bristles.

  • I do my sponges pretty much the same way as you, only I use the bar soap instead. I don't have as much staining either. There's a little, but not much.

Thanks for this vid Lisa! I ALWAYS love watching your videos!!!!

  • @havasmama05 Awesome! I'll give that a try!

  • Thanks Again Lisa!! Your vids are always so helpful. If I'm in a rush with my sponges I blowdry them until I'm sure they are dry:) Also for reshaping rounds I put them in very hot water for 10 seconds and then whip it down - can't come up with the right word, but it's like flinging it to get the water out. It puts it into the perfect shape!

  • I do the same thing with the brushes . . . and I think I'm going to take my foam pieces out of my cases as well and try the velcro thing. Then I'd have room for some split cakes in there too. Thanks for always giving good ideas Lisa! I love your videos! They are always really helpful and informative, instead of just watching someone paint with music in the background. Love it!! Thanks a bunch! I was putting my sponges in the bag damp sometimes, I'm not gonna do that anymore!

  • Im trying to leave a message

  • Hi Lisa Joy

  • I also don't rinse my brushes while painting... it wastes less time and product. I def love the trick about the wet wipe to stop it from muddying up! Thanks! I clean my brushes the same way too- but I will grab like 3 brushes at a time and wash them together. It saves a lot of time since I have like 60 brushes! lol I also use baby shampoo that I put in a pump bottle instead of dish soap so if any soap is left (doubtfully with the way I rinse- but IF) then it won't irritate the skin. :)

  • Where can I find mehron palettes like your for my cake paints

  • @Capricornprincessa i got mine from sillyfarm

  • Great words of wisdom. This should make life so much simpler...

  • I don't know if this tip will save time...it may in fact add some! I use a cake of regular old soap to clean my brushes. I wiggle my brushes as you do under running water and then I wiggle the brush on soap. I used to use liquid soap and it really surprised me to find that a cake of soap actually cleans the brushes...it takes the paint out! Hope your pregnancy is going well. Cheers, Diana

  • Thank you so much for all the great videos. This video especially helped me - so many great tips!!!

  • You should try to use a product ca

  • Hi! I use ivory bar soap and it takes most of the stains out of my brushes and sponges!

Thanks for all the great videos :)

  • OMG so glad you made this video Lisa... I loved your set up video and use it at the party gigs I have :) keep the videos coming

  • I rinse my sponges in running water, one in each hand, to get most of the paint off. Then I put some Walgreens antibacterial hand soap on them and scrub them together, like on a wash board. It keeps my sponges pink for months. When they start staining, I buy new ones. I carry a jug of clean water with a tiny amount of brush soap from Silly Farm in it. I use the same few brushes, but rinse them for each kid. It works for me!

  • hi i live in ireland and we have a product called vanish its a stain remover power, i just mix it wit some water and leave my sponges over night and there like new in the mornin, then i rinse them really well , its great to take the paint off your clothes to :)

  • I found that tip on You Tube. Anyway, I put mine in the washing machine in a gauze bag, so they stay together, then dry them in the kitchen on the radiator and put them all away together! When I re-shape my round brushes, I actually put them in my mouth and pull them out gently to form a perfect point! They are clean after all! I remember seeing my mother do this with her water colour brushes when I was little and have always done it!! :) How's the bump

  • Hi Lisa, great vid, thanks. It's really interesting to see you using the same brushes again and again to avoid washing out and re-loading. I think it's a great idea, and I tried to adopt it at my last party. I also bought some boxes and laid out all my paints in them (without lids!), which saves loads of time setting up and packing away. I actually used velcro to hold mine in place in the box, so they don't move around. I can pick them up and put them down again if I want .... continued....

  • @sarahgranville So many great tips! The velcro tip is a great idea! The bump is getting VERY big. I'm feeding it well :)

  • Thanks Lisa. Love your videos. The questions I have are regarding the paints when you are done. I noticed they had no lids and said you put them back in your kit like that when you finished. Do you not use the lids? I just started painting and though you had to have them on. Do they not dry out or get ruined?

  • I would love to use a different brush for each color, but I find that my station gets really chaotic and cluttered...any suggestions? Thanks...always love your tutorials!!

  • I don't know if you've watched my Face Painting Setup video yet, but you can see how I set up my brushes there. I usually keep the ones I use the most in the brush holes in my water container and all the other brushes laying down on a wet wipe beside the container. It can get a bit cluttered and chaotic at times, but looking for the right brush takes less time than cleaning out and reloading a brush that's already in your hand. :)

  • Thanks for the videos because of you I am an aspiring face painter and soon to have a business thank you

  • @Capricornprincessa You're welcome!

  • Many thanks Lisa, I always value your tips and ideas as there is always something new to be learned. I actually use similar cleaning techniques but was amazed at you only using one bottle of water for a 4 hour session. I guess I do too much colour switching :)

  • to wash my brushs i use baby shampoo. i clean my sponges in the washing machine with a little bit of washing power. it saves time that way. the brushes take the longest i would say.

  • @kayscotland84 Thanks for the tip!

  • @kayscotland84 Thanks for the tip!

  • Discovered a good sponge cleaner by accident. I was at a FP convention and used the bar soap from the hotel. We had a few at home too. Took all the color out! I'm excited to hear about the DaVinci soap too.

  • @paintedparty Awesome! I'm loving all these great tips!

  • Very helpful!

  • Hi Lisa Joy I'm loving your tutorials! Re: cleaning your sponges I use the da Vinci soap in a tin and my sponges look like new every time! It cleans everything - I've even used it on my kids clothes to get nasty stains out! I liked the reshaping trick and I'll be using that in the future! Many thanks x

  • @berleyhughes72 I'll have to pick some up! Thanks for the tip :)

  • Great video. The reshaping and the use of a wipe instead of water were very useful, thank you. I hadn't even thought of either. :)

  • Great Job jam In Sac on 28th This month :)

  • @TheAmazingSavanna Hopefully I'll be able to make it! :)
