I'm convinced this is real video of a meteor. I'm not bothered by the lens flare, and I don't take it as a sign of a fake. I believe the flare is a common problem of ccd sensors overloaded by intense lights. I've seen that kind of vertical flaring before in some of my own videos.

@looneytoobs There's some problems with this (well done) video. First is that it would not be lighting up and then not light up at all -- it would be lit up all the time. The meteoroid itself would not be a visible black mass at any time. Meteors do not have a visible arch. It would have been all but going straight. It would leave a smoke trail that would not dissipate anytime soon. A meteoroid that large would have made a rumbling noise and have a shock wave from breaking the sound barrier.

Keep in mind that's only a small percentage of what actually enters our atmosphere and burns before the surface itself. This footage is quite real and meteors can be seen very well, sometimes even at noon on a sunny day. A meteor the size of a pea can light up the sky when its potential energy it transformed into light by the burning of our atmosphere.

@luno44 That's where youtube videos and hollywood ofetn fail. They don't have dark smokey trails behind them. Even when they are burning they don't. REAL meteors have white condensation trails just like jetliners do. If you see a video of a meteor with black smoke behind it, you know it's an instant fake.
