Yes it is. Anyone that's 18 can go try get their gun license. A person is only allowed 2 hand guns and 1 hunting rifle, if you have more than 1 hunting rifle you have to regester to the SA hunting assisiation, if you do not and have more than 1 and get caught, there will be legal action taken against you for posession of illegal firearms or you'll have to discard of them. If they are regestered, and your not a member of the SA hunting assosiasion your gun license might not be renewed.

Mikelobi - Your statement is almost correct. You just forgot to take into account that this is based on the whole population and not per capita statistics. Per Capita, South Africa fares a lot worse than the USA. (Remember US has 240 million citizens vs our 48 million.) What I found interesting though is that the murder rate in Detroit Michigan is (per capita/100 000) is very similar to the overall South African murder rate. So yes they do have high crime, but per capita we fare much worse!
