  • Just beautiful. I hear some "shredders" play, and always plead with them. I say "God has given you the tools. Please use emotion. The guitar is a voice, and although speed-talkers are impressive and can earn money as auctioneers, there is no heart and soul in it. Play the way you would want to hear someone sing". Thank you for teaching this art.

  • When I pass over and go through the tunnel of light, I want to hear this piece play in my head. Thanks Man, two of my students have agreed to let me teach them through Finger board breakthrough. I'm off to purchase it now. Peace. Pape'

  • Thanks for sharing your talent. You remind me so much of my father, who passed so long ago. A Jazz Guitarist from the age 4, and like yourself was such an inspiration to me. Emotion is one of life's little ironie's, proof that God has a sense of humor (with respect to the big man). You like something, it then gives you pleasure. If you like something so much that you love it then the pleasure turns to tears, runny nose, etc. Please know how much your gift means to us.

  • Sir ,

If you do not mind . What key did you use in playing this beautiful piece which is well associated with your name .

    Thanks

  • For those not in the know and because you have to pick it up in bits and pieces here on youtube, Howard has a history of being a well respected jazz educator and has had several columns in Guitar Player and other magazines. His Fingerboard Breakthrough lessons are a real eye opener for the intermediate/advanced student. Not to mention his breathtaking fingerstyle arrangements here on YouTube. Thank you sir for your contributions to the music world.

  • Hey Mr. Morgen, I cannot get over your incredible creativity sense and man can you groove those hip voicings. Oh and let's not forget about your smart use of open strings. You've opened my eyes to so many possibilites on the guitar, that I can't wait to pick it up each day.

For anyone who really wants to develop their chops on a serious level, run don't walk and buy anything and everything that Mr. Morgen has written and recorded. You'll swing and you'll rock. Know your harmony. Peace.

  • Thank you so much for your enthusiastic comments about my work and my material. It's really heart warming to know that one's work has an influence on those who are themselves influencing others. I've read your bio and am very impressed with it as well as your choices and favorites on your excellent channel.

    Best regards,

    Howard

  • Howard,

Very nice colors in your harmony. I think I might steal a few of your chord voicings.

  • Thank you for your comments and your interest. The book is designed to be approached either way. First five chapters overview of approaches for solo guitar. The rmaining chapters outline thought processes and theory for creating arrangemebnts. Any chpter that interest you can be approached at any time. I've seen your excellent playing choose any you wish but the arrangements are for instruction that is their main purpose. FB due in Nov.

  • Hi Howard,

Just finally picked up your Thru CM and Beyond book/CD and it is excellent!

Thanks for making it available to us.

    A quick question...

Do you rec starting at page one, and learning the tunes in order, or would it be a mistake t jump about, learning what ever arrangement catches our ear?

The book seems to build upon itself, so I am leaning towards page one and up.

Also...looking forward to the TF cd rom set.

Any idea on the release date?

    Thanks!

    Rob in Asheville

  • I have been associated with music and a number of musicians over 65 years. I honor your well conceived and structured performance of standards and contemporary I like the use of chording voices into your rendition of Amazing Grace, I also find your use of black and white photography appealing in your presentation of Monk's, or as we called him Melodious Thunk, 'round midnight well thought out. I was researching the song when I came upon your version and am now a subscriber. Nicely done
