  • Very moving and inspiring. God bless England and the brave people who never lived to see the end of this war.

  • sheulibose:

    SHUT UP!!!!!!!!

  • you shut up, bloody bastard...

  • i agree

  • chilling doco. thank you for posting this.

  • Thanks for a class upload brother, very stirring. Also interesting to compare with the mighty Humphrey Jennings.

  • Make me proud to be from Great Britain

  • i'm with you there culave. I'm British and very happy to call myself European too.

  • If that generation could rise from their graves they would quite possibly hang every member of paliment for their treason.

  • fuck off u cunt the bnp are not representative of true brits! racism didnt get the country through thr war!

  • Yes, vote BNP! Why wait for another Hitler to come when you might as well vote one in yourself?

It'd save an awful lot of buildings.

  • "There is no panic, no fear,no despair in London town"

    Little has changed

It is the third anniversary of the 7/7 bombing of London and everyone was prepared, there was no panic and no fear. People became even more determined to go about their business the next day.

The efforts of Bin Laden and his followers were laughable, the only people that flinched in fear were our gutless government trying to push thorugh panic measures to erode our ancient liberties.

  • cowerme- how would you respond if you were PM or Home Secretary? I don't mean that offensively, just curious.

  • I was there during the Blitz - I remember every single night of German bombing. I remember the sirens the death and the destruction. I am a Londoner, a proud Londoner. Nothing can break the English spirit. I was 9 when war was declared, I was 10 when the blitz started. God Bless our Land, God rest the souls of all those innocents killed during the blitz.

  • god bless your good sir!

  • Long Live London, Long Live England, Long Live the British.

  • kirky29- well said!

  • the germans killed many civilians

    the germans destroyed many buildings

but the one thing thay didant kill or destroy was the british spirt!

  • It is so insipring to see this video.

  • Hitler's a wimp!

  • THe Blitz on London started at around 5pm on Saturday 7 September 1940, with the first of the massive air raids on the city. After that for 57 consecutive nights, usually starting at around 8pm and continuing until dawn the next morning, wave after wave after wave of German bombers smashed down their high explove bombs on the whole of London. Many hundreds died every night. Yet London survived, Britain survived. It takes a LOT to destroy the courage of the British. No enemy ever will.

  • I love London! I live in Greenwich and this vid sends shivers down my spine.. Nobody will ever take London or us Londoners!

  • nothing has changed there is always some scum bag who wants to bomb us , well this much i know we were blown up by the IRA HITLER AND NOW THOSE THAT LIVE HERE , WE WILL ALWAYS WIN BECUSE ITS OUR LONDON.

  • Hitler=Satans arcitct

  • my mother was british-cockney- and lived thru this.

she was drafted as well. said she never went into the shelters tho and often even went out during raids to go to dances. she was young and wasnt about to stop living.

  • i bet your mother took no shit from any1!good on her!

  • you got that right mate

  • I saw this on the Turner Classic Movies cable TV channel the other night. Must-see, a great little piece.

  • HITLER'S A TWAT

  • I was there. I am one of the people this film talks of. I was 9 years old when war was declared. I lived in Bermondsey and I remember every single night of the blitz. I hope and pray none of you ever have to witness some the things I saw. There was bombing from September 1940 - May 1941 and then sporadic raids up until 1944. In those days it was a case of having to get on with it. It is this spirit that makes the English truly English.

  • Very powerful video. My grandmother was killed during the Blitz of 1940 while sleeping in a bomb shelter in the National Friendly Building in Holborn, London. A beautiful plaque hangs in Westminister in memory of London's fallen. They could break the city but not the spirit or strength of the English! Royal Britania!!!! Love those Brit's!

  • A warrior nation, a nation of Lions.

  • "a nation of Lions"

    You got that right buddy.

Over 60 years after this report was filed Britain is again on the receiving end of some unwanted attention from European dictators hell bent on trying to destroy our way of life and our freedoms.

Our enemy this time is the EU.

But we won't let them beat us into submission because you are right, we are a nation of lions, proud and ready to fight to the end.

  • We shall go on to the end... We shall fight in France... We shall fight on the seas and oceans... We shall fight with growing strength and confidence in the air... WE SHALL DEFEND OUR ISLAND... WHATEVER THE COST MAY BE... WE shall fight on the beaches... We shall fight on the landing grounds... We shall fight in the fields and in the streets.. We shall fight in the Hills.. WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER (The words of the great man)
  • I've put up a suitable quote....

  • "The United States Of Europe" was Churchills idea to stop another Europian war. I dont want another war with Europe, I want 2 make money, have fun, have a drink & a laugh. Why cant I like Motorhead & Air (French band)? I like the fact that I can set up a company in Greece & have a house in England & a house in Italy. We won, its over, never forget those who died, & never repeat the xenophobic mistakes which led 2 ww2. Its good 2 love England...its nuts 2 hate everybody else.

  • "The United States of Europe" wasn't Churchill's idea at all. And do you not realise that there isn't going to be another European war whether such a situation existed at all. We can be fully independent and you can have all you want. That doesn't change anything at all.

  • randomlyric- well said; im a patriot and I love the UK, but I am a European too and sometimes these sort of videos bring about xenophobic undercurrents. Germany is no longer our enemy, its a partner on the world stage, as are other countries across the EU and people should stop acting like its still 1940.

  • I don't like the EU but please lets not be stupid enough to compare it with dictators. YOU'RE TALKING BOLLOCKS.

  • forestrigby- Its refreshing to see a eurosceptic like you present your debate rationally. Ive seen idiots commenting with things like 'lets bomb the EU' and 'Mugabe has more democratic legitimacy' Being pationately critical is one thing but resorting to stupidity is another.

  • Why thank you!

  • forestrigby- your'e welcome

  • andymurray2007- We are Europeans!

  • not reaaalllyyy....

  • andyp2371- I disagree; Im British and European and very comfortable with both; im not talking about the EU institution- im talking European culturally. I appreciate im in the minority with that opinion but look at our history- its impossible to divorce mainland European influence with these islands. Thats not diminishing British identity, its simply looking at the obvious. The British Empire is gone; splendid isolation just doesn't work.

  • andyp2371- Im also making the point that a lot of people here are closet xenophobes. We all know the tragedy of that period, and the courage of the British people but that is even more of a reason to be close to other European countries- to ensure it never happens again! And im not saying I support an unlimited EU; I absolutely do not but OUR generation have no reason to be anti- French, anti- German.

  • Thanks for sharing this. Brave people...strong too. We got it easy nowdays. We should never forget the people involved...soldiers and general public...all brave! John

  • i would like to say REST IN PEACE EVERY1 WHO SERVED LONDON AND GB IN WW2 IF YOUR WITH ME SAY RIP IN YOU NEXT MESSAGE

  • Did the bombing last for 24hrs a day?

  • Thanks for posting this. I'd be interested in using segments of this in a video project. I assume that it is now in the public domain, but where can you get the film in a decent quality download? Your help is appreciated!

  • they make me proud to be english.

  • This brings back so many memories. I was there in London during the Blitz, I was only 9 years old when War was declared, and my mother God rest her was not going to have me shipped off out of London. We were bombed out 4 times during the Blitz. The war as strange as it sounds was the best part of my life, it was when everyone was equal, rich or poor, the bombs were indiscriminate, we were all in it together.

  • Thank God the United States never had to under go such a horrific way of life. Sleeping in tunnels, food shortages, crumbling infastructure, massive unemployment, poverty, death, and fire. Britan over came hell!!!!

  • he is neutral because the yanks arnt in the war at this time derrr

  • What is the name of this film?

  • Hello, yes when I lived in London I lived in one of those very gaps in the terraced street, which had suffered a direct hit. The house I lived in was built in the gap in a 1950s style totally different to the rest of the street. Also, during the Blitz my Grandad was in a heavy Ack Ack gun unit on the South Coast trying to take down a few bombers before they managed to drop their presents! He saw night after night Portsmouth take a right pounding.

  • Inded, even now, you go around London and can clearly see where the bombs fell due to the placement of newer buildings. My dad was bombed out 3 times during the war and knew people killed.

  • Living in South London - new buildings fit in with Victorian... If you think about it, the reason is because of what happened here... Lest we forget all.

  • I heard during one of these night raids the Queen Mum was reputed to have stood outside Buckingham Palace shaking her fists at the german planes as they flew over.Just a story I heard.

  • Pip pip! Carry on London, and keep your chin up!

  • My goodness the memories this brings back to me. I was 9 when war was declared, during the blitz this video of one night was repeated for 43 nights consecutively, and I lived through every single one of them - what a blast from the past this film is - I hope none of you ever have to listen to that siren in anger again.

  • That's a bit of propaganda, and I wouldn't call the narrator a "neutral reporter." But there's certainly more truth in it than there is in most propaganda...They were tough, and they didn't give in.

  • Its not propaganda as the US was still neutral. My Grandmother was in her 20s. She lived in London and was bombed every night for 5 years she watched this with me & it made her cry. She confirmed everything he said was objective not subjective. Please dont be disrespectful about the blitz, many of her friends who were your age died. There was no "therapy" no prozac, no choice, just live or die. The blitz was a 9/11 every single night.... just think about that for a while.

  • I wasn't trying to disrespect the people who lived through the blitz. I am in awe at the courage of England, and especially Londoners during the War. I was simply saying that this film is clearly slanted towards keeping chins up and showcasing the courages of London. But I don't mean to offend at all. Trust me, I am forever in awe at the pluck and spirit. It may be almost cliche sometimes, but there was clearly a whole lot of truth there. Courage... I can't even imagine facing that.

  • Thanks for for your reply and for paying tribute to England. I think Propaganda is different from news reporting in that propaganda has an ulterior motive, news just tells it how it is. If this was made for US audiences (neutral) or UK (not neutral) I s'pose it would make a difference. My Nan (an old cockney) says how he describes it is how it was and the feeling of community and grit was huge. Just like when New Yorkers pulled together and helped during the horror of 9/11.

  • GO LONDONERS!!

  • great video. Greetings from Trujillo Peru SouthAmerica

  • christoc99- Thankyou

  • Makes me glad that I didn't live back then! Imagine being a soldier on the battlefield knowing that back home your family was going through that??

  • My grandfather lived in London at the time of the Blitz - apparently the nearest bomb hit 100 yards from his house!

  • yeah nice video give me a warm feeling inside

  • Thank you. Impressive reporting and very evocative.

  • Excellent clip, if anyone out there has some Ed Murrow blitz reporting they could post, that would be very peachy too. Cheers nipringle!
