cute movie with some memorable lines but........what an idiotic ending. I know , I know.....it was mentioned several times in the movie how Roy likes taking chances but taking chances and being outright stupid is not good for ones health or golf game *LoL* My favorite line is "birdie wins par ties...now hit the goddamn 7 iron". That's actually the line Phil Mickelson's caddie should have used on him at the 72nd hole at the 2006 U.S. Open *lol*
@TheNYgolfer I'd describe this as one of my favourite movie scenes ever, but you're right about the Mickelson comparison - he's my favourite behind Weir and probably my fifth or sixth favourite athlete of all time, but I'm still pissed at him about the 06 U.S. Open. Imagine if his shot at #13 at Augusta in 2010 had come up short? I vividly remember watching it, turning to my grandfather, and saying "Boy, he's frustrating to watch, isn't he?"
I'm unfamiliar with golf rules, so......what could he have done otherwise (other than going for it?) And why was it so important to him that he take this shot the way he chose to?
@RedFoxAce It was just his ego making him hit the shot from there. He could have taken relief from the hazard by dropping a ball just before the water
@RedFoxAce It was his second shot on a par 5. He could have laid up short of the water, taken a third shot onto the green, made one putt for a four (the aforementioned birdie to win). Had he hit his second shot in the water anyway, he could have 'dropped' a ball in front of the water hazard (with a one-shot penalty), hit his fourth shot onto the green, and made one putt for a five (the aforementioned par to tie). Hope this helps!
A lovely ending to the movie, and I don't even play golf.

Well no wonder he won, he's got Cheech for a caddy.

For me, Costner's best movie ever .
A man obsessed with doing it right his way, and fuck the consequences.
