Cont: When I lived in California in 1995-1996, there was a high-quality rabbit show nearly every weekend.

This practice is wrong on every level. Sadly, it is resulting in an all-encompassing law that will make criminals out of RESPONSIBLE people who enjoy the hobby of showing rabbits. Simply make it illegal to sell an animal under 8 weeks old, or make an exception for anyone able to produce pedigrees or ARBA (national rabbit association) membership to prove they are not the vendors. And definitely, ban people selling baby animals of any kind and make sure they do not own animals again if caught!

@Jorge3305 Jorge, what is so funny about that? It's illegal to sell animals on the street. Anyone, regardless of nationality, who does it is considered an "illegal" animal vendor. The fact that all of the vendors are also illegal immigrants is a whole different issue.

God, people like this make me sick! You never even think about taking a kit away from the mom until it at the very least 4 weeks old, I don't like to take them away any sooner then 6 weeks, I leave them in longer if I can, depending on how the mom reacts. It's people like that that make responsible breeders look bad, I can barely tell any one I breed rabbits with out people freaking out on me, I love my rabbits, and I love to show. But this is wrong. Rabbits are great animals and wonderful pets.

Just like they don't care about the animals, they are illegals so that means they don't count. Take them out and make them disappear. No one will know, no one will care. Less illegals stealing our homes, jobs, and tax money. As a tax payer, I say make them disappear. Totally. They don't count so why not make it so.

And yes I do have a concious but any humanity towards these people was lost by their actions against helpless animals. They have no sympathy from me. They need to be erased now.

@theart1rm do you think the same goes toward the gardeners, the people that take care of kids, the drive though people, and many others. do they break the law in this manner. you have closed your mind to the possibility that stereotypes do not fit everyone's personalty. and you think that since you have paid your taxes that gives you the right to make those declarations. you DO REALIZE that MANY illegal immigrants pay taxes and do the nation's dirty work, jobs that are looked down upon by many.

@boxrokmysox Don't get high & mighty with me. I work a lowly looked down upon job. Funny thing though - I have a TracFone, drive a beat-up car that barely runs, live like a homeless person in a room with no furniture. While they on the otherhand have cellular phone, drive nicer cars, have better housing - in fact actually have a house which is subsidized, food stamps, & medical (at my expense no less). As a white woman trying to get housing I get laughed at, so I have a right to my feelings.

@theart1rm but you are grouping a whole ethnicity with these people. you are not looking at the situation with a clear viewpoint. and some people will always have it better than you and me so the only thing you can do is try to better yourself. and i know you might be thinking that i don't know what you feel like, and maybe i don't, but i have a lame right arm and getting a job is REALLY hard for me so i just try to be grateful for what i get and try not to get depressed all the time.

@boxrokmysox I still stand my ground on this issue. They sell bunnies because they are small and cute. The horror of it is unforgivable. They could be doing something else -- like knitting or crocheting. People love to buy handmade scarfs, shaws, etc. They could be doing that & make more money than they do by selling rabbits. But they are too lazy & don't care because that would entail working - something they are too lazy to do. That would be an honorable living & more profitable too.

@TheGreatEscapes Unfortunately the authorities are not arresting them for some reason, so, yes, it still goes on and ignorant people still buy them and end up with a dead bunny days later....we just received 6 yesterday that were impounded by LAPD. Not sure if anyone got arrested, but as you can see, the vendors don't care. Theya re continuing to commit both misdemeanor and felony crimes... :(

BWF doesn't take these rabbits from the "poor" illegal vendors & their suppliers, but from authorities AFTER they are already impounded. Selling without a license is A MISDEMEANOR, selling unweaned baby bunnies A FELONY, ANIMAL CRUELTY. Babies are doomed 1) if they are sold 2) if they are not sold and 3) if they are impounded & vendors arrested IF BWF DOESN'T TAKE THEM. That to you is funny??

The funny thing about this is the rabbit rescue is also participating in killing these baby rabbits. The more they take from these people, the more rabbits they will breed to replace them. Its like a never ending cycle.

Take those people down beware they are also selling puppys too young and sick there too sick with parvo and way too young the more people who know about this the better!! each time i go there i live 20 min away i see 4 to 5 people selling these babys way too young and now puppys!!!! i rescued a chihuahua puppy sunday took her home and 1 day later shes fighting to live!!! this must stop laws must be strict for this

I saw this when I was there 2 months ago and called the LAPD. But they said all they can do is to ticket these people. The laws really need to be changed to stop these horrible greedy people from doing this.

I do not think bunnies are dying because they are away from their mother. I strongly believe it has to do with the way their owners are mis-feeding them.

@oddworms - of course they are dying because they are away from their mother. There is no rabbit milk substitute available in the market. The best one can do is mix KMR for kittens, goat milk, colostrum pills and acidopholis in order to come up with something remotely similar. Their immune systems are weak, which makes them susceptible to coccidia - a deadly bacteria, that once it attacks liver - pretty much ends bunny's life in a very long and painful way...most of them die from diarrhea.

i remeber them selling this! they were also selling baby turtles and parakeets. the turtles were like $5, the bunnies were $20, and the parakeets were $15. i remebred how i kept begging my parents to let me buy the bunny but they said that the bunnies were probably malnurished and had diaseases. but its true, there were more than 20 vendors at every coner selling bunnies in a little plastic cage and they were selling fast.
