Asim306, I think thats incorrect. It was a point of debate in the Indian film magazines that when Talat went for Hajj, his career declined and was replaced by a much better singer Mohamed Rafi.

But, when Rafi went for Hajj in 1970, he didn't sing for 3-4 months (not 9 -10 yrs) as he was advised by a Mualvi, so he was in UK for that time

It was a travesty that a singer Kishor (not as good) replaced him. R.D. Burman played a big role in rise of Kishor & Rafi's decline.

@df108. There has never been a decline of Mohammad Rafi Sahab. His rendetions mainly depended on the way the songs were composed. The more natural, soul touching and great a song was the better he delivered.

Somehow, sometime in seventees, the general quality of songs declined and the great Rafi could not come down to mechanical, unnatural and businesslike emotions. The golden era was fading away. That was the start of music industry in India and not that of Rafi Sahab.
