@AHMADF93 If you try to make your eyes do something, you stress your eyes. Focus on where your attention is. think about where you make the picture you see. Your eyes don't do it. Your brain does it. And your brain follows where your attention goes. So all you have to do is direct your attention.
@BatesHappysight for example ? Just pay attention to the letter T ? and shift away from it ? But how am I suppose to do it without trying to make eyes do something, that will stress my eyes.
@AHMADF93 This is where it's important to practise with your imagination. E.g. if you pick a letter T, close your eyes and think about the shape of it. You can imagine drawing it with a black pen on white paper. Or you can count how many corners it has. All without using your eyes.
The point about Bates is not to give yourself a hard time. It's really not a matter for belief, but for experiment and experience. Do babies learn to walk by looking at the adults around them and trying to believe they can do what adults do? I rather think they just get on with it, and if one attempt doesn't work, they try a different one.
what herbs, i have tried many times many thing ,the buttom line is I seem to be to tense most of the time ,at times (once for about 10 minutes ) i have been able to see clearly without glasses so I know it can be done but I need something that wrk faster than what I have tried so far
WOW. What type of vitamins or herbs? I'm guessing vitamin A? Is there a point where it is too late to heal the eyes because I have been wearing contacts since i was ten and now i am 20.
You mean diplopia? Seeing two images? Do a lot of palming and relaxing your mind. If you still get double vision, you can practise seeing best where you are looking with only one eye at a time, keeping the other one covered. You can practise with a Brock string to address the double vision, but be careful not to put pressure on yourself while practising - close your eyes often and take deep breaths and imagine the result you want, without pressure.
Okay well, is the whole idea of this to concentrate at something then move your concentration to somewhere else? Won't this cause any strain or anything? I trust you, but I'm just curious =P
Yes, the idea of shifting is to shift your attention from one point to another. Whether you get strain or not depends on whether you put effort into doing this by trying to make your eyes do something, as opposed to releasing control of the eyes and focusing on your actual attention.
Oh, does it make more sense to try to improve your vision by not looking at stuff, then? Or are you issuing a blanket denial of any possibility of improving vision?
All exercises are done in this state only. It took me some practice to get into that state, but in my opinion this is the key, big time. Once I start looking at blurry test lines In this state, flashes of good vision come consistently, better and longer each time. Emotion is the key, the key is all over the place, but most don't get it. Look carefully what he say to her here at 0:56 and after: youtubeURL /watch?v=ovR0V2EwCpQ
Criss Evans hypnotising someone - is that the one you mean? I would like to point out the Bates does use this state - he talks many times about taking yourself back to a time when you felt good, while palming. You can hear me talking about it in my video on palming, in fact. So I'm glad he agrees with Norbekov on this!
Bates method puts one on the right track, but there are more efficient ways to improve vision. Norbekov system is more efficient, especially for real bad cases. bates helped me to stop deterioration, norbekov helped me to pull from -8.5 to -2.5 and improving.
I am interested in what you say, but after trying to read Norbekov through an online translator (hilarious!) I give up. If this guy is so good, why has he not apparently been translated and published in English???
I might translate his work once my sight is fully restored, but most people are sceptical about such things unless they experienced them first hand. The key difference about two systems is a positive emotional state worked up to extreme, up to the shivers on the back, up to hair trying to raise up. Imagine the best of the best in your life and go through the emotion.
The bates method is a facinating idea. I know someone who has had quite a bit of success and I've decided to start now because I'm 20 years younger.
Question: Do you have any tips for computer work? I use them a lot for research and would like to avoid making my eyes worse. I can just read the screen without glasses, should I leave them off?
If you can read the screen without glasses, leave them off. What you then have to do is avoid strain and avoid keeping your focus fixed for long periods. You can swing the details on the computer screen - move the cursor from side to side, and as you follow it, imagine the details moving in the opposite direction behind it. Also close your eyes to rest them at intervals, and look at distant objects. Stay aware of the room around you rather than fixating on the screen.
I've been practicing this Bates' method for about a month now. It's very ensuring knowing that there are other people like you in this sort of thing. So far I've gone from 20/300 to about 20/180. Not bad, really.
You should easily be able to get rid of -0.5 diopters by practising swinging with a bit of blinking. (see my vid on swinging!)The floaters are more noticeable when you think about trying to get sharp focus. See if you notice them less if you switch your attention to the movement in the space around you.
i'm 17, and i've finally managed to rid my habits of staring at the computer for too long. however, it left me with some badly nearsighted eyes. it's about 500 - 600 degrees in nearsightedness, and i'm about to start this.
since my eyes are that bad, should this method be done with my glasses on, or just plain sight?
You need tp practise without glasses. Make yourself a safe space to practise in. You can do the long swing with a large amount of blur: just watch the blur moving in the opposite direction, and make sure you don't get dizzy. Or you can swing a page of print quite close to your face, using one eye at a time.
I am still practising and it's ongoing. I get temporary improvements. The main thing is that I can usually get the computer screen into focus when I think about being relaxed and do a bit of swinging. I guess the improvement is from about -4 to about -2.
I don't believe so. It's staring at a fixed distance that is the problem with computers. Easy enough to look away and do some swinging every so often!
If you get improvement for a moment, that's a good start. Maybe if you keep practising, you'll begin to feel what's going on in your mind that is giving you the improvement: are you thinking about movement, or about relaxing and letting go, or about feeling good? There are lots of websites with useful information about Bates method, too.
I`m going to optometric tomorow and i don`t want to wear glasses... I really don`t like them... any1 have any ideas how to somehow not o get glasses? I mean like doing something to see better.I may have myopia....
You could try palming and swinging, as I demonstrated in the first two videos. You might need someone to help you do it properly. There are books about Bates method, too. The main thing is to avoid straining to see, and to get a sense of all the space around you by feeling it and moving through it.
Instead of lenses, they have black plastic full of little holes. They work like a bunch of pinhole cameras, producing images that are clear without you needing to focus. You can use them to see things without glasses, and to stimulate your central vision. It can be relaxing for your eyes to wear them. But you need good light.
I personally don't have any axe to grind about them. A lot of people find them helpful. They are not a substitute for practising shifting, swinging, mental relaxation and using the imagination.
I don't think anyone can predict that. Some people who wear lenses keep the same prescription for decades, some get worse until they reach a certain point. People who practise Bates method get varying degrees of improvement along with a change in outlook that feels healthy and worthwhile.
Well, you can see it, can't you? You just don't see it in focus! Say it's a printed letter and you can't tell what letter it is. At a certain distance you might notice it has an open side or a flat side. You can close your eyes and imagine what shape it is. Then look, and see if it might be that shape. Then close your eyes and imagine again. You can play with blur!
What hurts your eyes is strain. If you can go without glasses and accept the world as you see it, even with however much blur you may get, you won't strain. The moment you start to try to get focus, you strain. If you connect with the movement you see, rather than the detail, you avoid strain. But you also have to stay within the law, eg when driving you should wear glasses if prescribed.
It's not clear what you mean by 400 degrees? If you said -4 diopters I would understand you. Whether you can get perfect vision depends on your condition, your situation, how perfectly you get to understand the method - but if you asked me, is it possible, i would say yes.
Well you may have to refocus on a different object you want to look at but that change in focus would be brought about by the change in shape of the lens not by the action of th EO muscles
Thanks for these videos. I'm currently using the Bates method to improve my vision and these videos really help understand the different techniques. Thanks!
Wearing glasses deoes not cause loss of connection twith the fovea, the anatomy of your eye dictates the cental fixation point. Eccentric fixation occurs when the central vision is lost e.g in macular degeneration, you can then learn to use the surrounding retina that has slightly better vision than the damaged centre
According to Dr Bates, central fixation can be lost by misuse of the eyes, i.e. straining to see. His thesis is that the amount of strain which causes the degree of vision loss, has to be maintained while wearing corrective glasses, so glasses engender permanent strain and loss of central fixation. Having a fovea is not the same as using it.
I'm afraid Dr Bates is wrong, the anatomy of an eye dictates the central fixation point- the fovea centralis, eyestrain caused by whatever reason will not cause loss of central fixation, eyestrain is strain it will not lead to loss of visual acuity. Correct spex should not cause strain, even if they are wrong the strain would be temporary.
Where do you get your information from? It has been a common belief passed on by opticians that eyestrain can cause loss of acuity. How can you be so sure that correction will not cause strain? And if temporary, what is the mechanism whereby such strain is relieved?
A correct prscription should not strain the eyes, the spex focus the light onto the retina improving the visual acuity. Admittedly the acurity is not treated, once the spex are removed the acuity will be poorer, if the spex are incorrct when they are removed that is the mechanism by which the strain is relieved.
OK, it's not the prescription that strains the eyes, but the attitude that maintains the poor vision that the prescription supports, according to Bates. On the subject of 'correct' prescriptions, do you accept that vision is variable, or not? (eg with planes of astigmatism). And if you do, do you think variability should be encouraged or discouraged, or do you believe it just isn't important enough to study?
I don't accept Bates' idea of variable vision due to the effects of the extra ocular muscles changing the shape of the eye. That theory is simply incorrect, proved many times over with modern techniqes since 1920. Changes in the lens and cornea thro life can vary vison, 'attitude' wont effect these changes
Have modern techniques actually proved that the eyeball does not change shape at all during use? How does the cornea change shape unless the extraocular muscles are a factor? I do accept that Bates' assertions about ciliary muscles are pig-headed and illogical, but that doesn't mean that eo muscles play no part in focusing. Besides this, the technique gets results, and I don't think the opthalmic prfofessionals have ever tried to investigate it.
The EO muscles have no effect on the shape of the cornea otherwise your sight would change every time you looked about, all the muscles do is move the eyeball around, the force required to change the shape of the eyeball can't be created by the EO muscles, change in focus occurs by the ciliary muscle in the eye contracting, loosening off the lens zonules to make the lens change shape, this has been proven by ophthalmic professionals
Well you may have to refocus on a different object you want to look at but that change in focus would be brought about by the change in shape of the lens not by the action of th EO muscles
how exactly does "attitude" not affect your visual system yet it can affect everything else in your body (high blood pressure, ulcers, headaches, etc)? You don't make any sense, period.
Depends what you mean by attitude, if you mean stress then it may effect the control of your visual system, any damage to the visual system would be secondary for example hypertension related disease. Attitude wouldn`t effect refractive error
From a guy called Peter Mansfield. You can find it all in Dr Bates' book, 'Perfect eyesight without glasses' or the more recent and less extravagantly titled 'Better eyesight without glasses'
you cant practice cenral fixation, your eyes naturally take up that position from the central point your visual acurity drops off, ie the further out the object is from the centre the more blurry it becomes
I do practice central fixation and it does help with focusing. Wearing glasses encourages staring behaviour and loss of connection with the central clear point.
If the eyes always naturally fixate, how do you explain the phenomenon of eccentric fixation?
Doesn't this will stress your eyes ?

@AHMADF93 If you try to make your eyes do something, you stress your eyes. Focus on where your attention is. think about where you make the picture you see. Your eyes don't do it. Your brain does it. And your brain follows where your attention goes. So all you have to do is direct your attention.

Several don't wear glasses now.

Juands10 2 years ago
My 6 year old daughter was given herbs for 3 months corrected her astigmatism.
Her eye doctor said he had never seen anybodies eyes heal themselves.
But he never asked how either.
She is 22 today and has no need of glasses.
Her glasses were embarrassingly thick.

@dulosforchrist what kind of herbs? Please give the names.
danf1979 1 year ago
The people I know were either far or near sited.
When you take vitamins for your eyes it feeds them.
It takes 7 months to replace the cells in the body.
Keep chemicals away from the body while to heal oneself.
One has to take nutrients to feed those cells.

Perfect eyes is one combination of herbs.
You need to take a multivitamin plus stay away from chemicals or your eyes won't heal as quick.
because of your age you will have to exercise your eyes.
A friend of mine 57 years old repaired his eyes but it took him several months needs no glasses today.
Because of your age you will have to take super trio.
email me for the rest of the story.

Cure of 20/20 vision without glasses.
you've done a great job on your videos on bates method
i have 500degrees of myopia but i have stopped wearing glasses for about a month.
i notice that sometimes i can see very clearly when i blink my eyes, but it happens very rarely.
but my vision is still the same most of the time.
what do you recommend i do for more improvement?
i read that people could achieve 20/10 vision.
do you know how can that be done?

ya i have been practising them.
and sometimes my eyesight will improve for a few seconds only.
does it mean my eyes are improveing?
but how many times do i have to do them to see significant improvement?
im also not sure whether im doing it right or not.
i would me really interested if there are lessons on the bates method.
but being from singapore, a country with the highest percentage of the population affected by myopia(i suppose), i have never heard of such lessons.

You think sight doesn't change every time you look about?
HappyHag 4 years ago
Well you may have to refocus on a different object you want to look at but that change in focus would be brought about by the change in shape of the lens not by the action of th EO muscles

how exactly does "attitude" not affect your visual system yet it can affect everything else in your body (high blood pressure, ulcers, headaches, etc)? You don't make any sense, period.

Depends what you mean by attitude, if you mean stress then it may effect the control of your visual system, any damage to the visual system would be secondary for example hypertension related disease. Attitude wouldn`t effect refractive error

thats what i thought the context/definition of attitude was in the discussion.

and it was the definition used when happy hag mentioned it.

This stuff is great! Where on earth did you learn this?
maustin3595 4 years ago
From a guy called Peter Mansfield. You can find it all in Dr Bates' book, 'Perfect eyesight without glasses' or the more recent and less extravagantly titled 'Better eyesight without glasses'

you cant practice cenral fixation, your eyes naturally take up that position from the central point your visual acurity drops off, ie the further out the object is from the centre the more blurry it becomes
t666dom 4 years ago
I do practice central fixation and it does help with focusing. Wearing glasses encourages staring behaviour and loss of connection with the central clear point.
If the eyes always naturally fixate, how do you explain the phenomenon of eccentric fixation?
