His bow hold is a little too Heifetz like, in my opinion. He produces very clear notes that are in tune and what not, but his sound is rather one sides. Not as enthusiastic while playing either.
the trilled double stops section is so hard to get in tune, and if its not perfect right down to the cent, it sounds horrible. He put a lot of practice into this.
don't be fooled by his austere demeanor on stage, Heifetz was accused of being a cold player for the very same reason. However nobody displayed more musical fire in a performance than him. Listen to his Conus violin concerto for instance, or his Bruch concerto #2, or his amazing sensitivity in countless short show pieces. Barati is an elegant player and an astonishing virtuoso of the very highest caliber. Listen to his other videos on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.
I am not fooled by his demeanor. I just think that he, along with Hilary Hahn, are two violinists who are technically proficient but are lacking in other aspects. On the other hand, Heifetz was able to play with technical proficiency as well as with musical intensity; indeed, his playing was very "fiery"
You are right about Heifetz, and I also think that Vengerov is a very interesting player, but Barati is still superior to Hillary Hahn in the musical aspect. Like you say they are both extremely proficient technically, but Hanh playing is as bland as it is amazing technically
With our orchestra we made a recording of Beethoven violin concerto with him. He is a really nice guy (some of our violinists were allowed to play his Stradivarius), and his musical output is very deep and convincing, at some places I was almost frightened because of this deepness.
I just watched Vengerov's video. From what I saw and heard, the only thing Vengerov was superior with was making retarded faces, dancing around like a goblin, fake conducting, and making me dizzy with the rotating camera. And putting aside any issues of musicality and taste, Barati's amazing ricochet makes Vengerov's schleppy version seem an awful mess in comparison.
Great perform !

Hihetetlen ez a pali! Hát ha valaki ebbe bele tud kötni, az sokkal okosabb ember nálam, mert én aztán nem találok fogást ezen a fickón!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Barati's playing is technically flawless but weak in musicality and boring. Compare this with Vengerov's far superior rendition of this piece.
