The bd 2 is a damn good pedal for the price and value. if you need some midrangy boost to beef up those single coils add a ts9 with tone set up above mid position to retain the crispiness of the single coil pickups guitars. Honestly these boutique pedals are a waste of money because no effect can reproduce the same dynamics of a tube rectified amp with good quality transformers. The idea is to boost the power section of the amp and get the dynamics from the rectifier...........
SRV tone = 0,13 inch gauges strings + neck pickup ( mostly ) + fender stratocaster + Marshall on clean parts or Fender on overdriven tone... he used Ibanez tube screamer, and im not sure about wah wah thats all I know :)
@originalwerks1 If you got a tube amp, the TS 9 would probably be better. The BD 2 provides a balanced overdrive/tube amp sound, so it could work with either kind of amp. Just an opinion...
A lot of these demos are done with the pedal through a nice tube amp. I have a peavey bandit 112, it has a decent clean tone for a ss, but will a blues driver or similar units sound equally as good with my amp?
@mcneely2818 The Blues Driver is actually a lot better than people give it credit for in terms of an overdrive. I personally use a TC Electronic Mojomojo but that's just more to my taste.
If you want the best tone possible out of the Blues Driver you would probably need a Fender vintage tweed amp from the 1960's or whatever.
But if you're not a perfectionist or not that picky with whether you're using all analog, all digital or a mix of the two then I strongly recommend giving this pedal a try.
@renatoufo i dont own a fender product (Never will) but i think it will sound cool. I Use this on my Boss ME-70 (Mutli effects processor, great for people who are noobs at pedals) and with my Roland Cube on the clean channel, you get a really warm sound. I Think your result would be the same.
i goto be honest, i really dislike most boss pedals. but this is an amaing pedal. they just nailed it. i have the keely mod version but they both sound great. this and the ns-2 are both really nice pedals.
im looking for an overdrive that will work well behind a fuzz. something that will just give it that extra drive and sizzle to the tubes in my amp. ive heard this works great. would you guys agree?
@mrhumpydumpyable hey yes it will i ran mine through my marshall lead 12 its an 80's combo amp and it blew me away , i sold it to get myself a tubescreamer,, and now that i have a triple rectifiear and my pedal board setup im going to go to guitarcenter to buy it again i recomend you get it, the tu3 tuner and the ns2 noise gate and this are imho the only pedals worth getting from boss hope that helps :)
@srvzepp this pedal is a really nice pedal and it cleans up very well at the volume. I recommend getting this pedal with a fuzz face for Hendrix and It will be great for Page When u run it with a fuzz face make sure to turn the tone all of the way up on the Blues Driver because it'll mellow out the fuzz face a little
nice demo, but I was wondering... I'm saving up to buy a Vox AC30, which has a overdrive channel too. So should I save my money for the amp or still buy this pedal? Thanks for the help n keep up the good work ;)
@TheUsed707 - If you're referring to the guitar's volume knob, yes, we do have the guitar's volume knob turned up for the bulk of any given video. If Andy's rolls back the volume to show how a pedal cleans up, we'll generally indicate that in the video. Thanks for watching!
@ProGuitarShopDemos Yeah I was referring to the guitar's volume knob. Thanks for the reply! Great job on these videos they really help me in choosing pedals.
@WTig3r I dont think you can say Boss pedals are completely crap, they are so so sooo many pro players who use them and sound amazng. the only boss pedal i have is a RV5, and it's amazing. All my other stuff is "boutique" but you can't just go hating on boss because you don't like them.
Andy, you've played almost every song from Rocks in the PGS videos. If you play Nobody's Fault, you'll crash all of YouTube's servers and plunge the internet into complete chaos. DO IT!
@gewerh44 You underestimate the importance of having a few buffered bypass pedals. If you use nothing but true bypass, especially in a long pedal chain, it's acting as a long guitar cable. Having at least one buffered bypass in the board will keep the signal from degrading over such a long chain of effects, and for that reason I keep a TU-2 at the start of my board.
@gewerh44 You really should expand your horizons dude. They really aren't that bad. I keep two buffered bypass pedals on my board along with a couple true bypass pedals. Hell, even Eric Johnson and Dave Gilmour use buffered pedals.
Stop being a snob and play pedals that sound good. If you're THAT fucking concerned, get a bypass looper.
I sense some anger in your comments, I dont know why though. I only put my opinion here, and Im sorry, you wont change it. Why do you think Im talking without knowing? Ive tried this kind of pedals, and I dont like them.
Are you one of those people that think theyre opinion is the only truth? ignorant people think that
@gewerh44 I'm not being angry. I'm just a little frustrated, probably unjustly. I admit I wasn't aware of whether or not you'd actually played other pedals, but the majority of people who say that true bypass pedals are the only way to go are insecure snobs. I apologize for anything I said without thinking.
And no, I'm not one of those people who thinks that my opinion is the only truth. I'm very sorry for giving off that impression.
@guitarrhythymfool Yep, but if most of your pedals are buffered, it will pretty much ruin your "pure" tone, whereas a long signal chain will only results in a slight loss of volume, which can be compensed by any pedal activated. And Boss pedals are reputed for having a buffer quite noticeable.
I had a BD on my board for a long time a while back. I loved the tone of it. I just tend to get board with tones after a while so, unfortunately for my bank account, my pedal board set up is constantly evolving.
@apessk8s88 Oops in an earlier response I said that EC sang on this song. It's Mayall on this, "Little Girl". Clapton sings Ramblin' on My Mind on that album.
@kyzrvlhlm1995 This is much more versatile than a tubescreamer. If you like the sound, TS is great because it sounds good on almost all settings. Some OD pedals take a good amount of adjusting before you dial in that perfect tone. Just a matter of preference. TS is also a great pedal to layer, I bet it would sound killer with this.
If that counts, many nice (IMO) guitarists of different styles use/used Boss pedals for a long time, like Vince Gill, Brent Mason, Dave Navarro, Dave Grohl, John Frusciante, John 5, Jack White, John Mayer and the list could go on and on...
@linkwray22 - Thanks! Truth be told, the total video count is closer to 850, but all of them aren't available on youtube. There are many videos that can only be seen in the video library on our website. Thanks again for the kind words. It's good to know our hard work is appreciated.

@niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick agreed, but i mean boss is like right bellow boutique so they sound great their just not hand built by some monk in the alps. lol XD perfect upper mid range pedals.
pgs, could you guys please demo a boss fz-5 or boss os-2? it would be nice to hear the os-2 more actually becuase its an overdrive AND distortion =) would be a great demo esp for newer guitarists who want to get both pedals for just one price n its got an interesting ''blend'' knob for inbetween both. they would get a taste of the difference. cheers, would be wickedd if you did.
Been using the OS - 2 for 1 year... Its awesome! As its very versatile. However, its really thin when its plugged into a big tube amp. However, when its plugged into a good solid state amp like the godly Roland Jazz Chorus (even the big ones like the 120W), the sound is just lush and rich!
@b44styreraug You say it sounds thin? I know Paul Gilbert was using an OS-2 through Ampeg VL1002 amps back in the '90s and his tone was huge! What tube amp did you use the pedal with?
If I was not wrong, I used a Laney VC - 30 212 back then with my OS - 2 in front of it. Actually I can only feel that its thin, unless I compared it with the overdrive from the amp. If its ran individually, its still ok. Also, when its battery level is really low, its tone will get really bad and really thin no matter what it ran through.
@yitboy11 'Little Girl' on the "Beano" album--John Mayall with Eric Clapton on guitar and vocal on this song. Get the CD and learn everything on it--Eddie Van Halen did when in high school.
with all do respect to tube users. I dont know whats the deal with people going for tube. I got amazing carvin tube amps and I got to say that I prefer my solid states over tube. Cleaner, more raw distortions, no compression at all. I mean you guys remember dimebags sound on vulgar and such. thats solid state. No1 is going to tell me they dont enjoy that sound.
@MrArsenioOro Actually, Dimebag is known for having crappy tone, just the way it is. But it's all personal preference anyway. For metal, solid state works pretty well because you don't want power tube distortion from cranking it up too loud, whereas for rock and blues it's desireable
the pedal of the working man! and yes even though PGS stocks some of the holy grails of pedals.. doesn't mean they shouldn't stock BOSS and other working man pedals.
@Ncuab I have one on my pedalboard and it's all i use for distortion. It's a great dirt box. Turned all the way down it gives you a great breakup at a descent volume. Turn up the gain and it will give you all the distortion you need without sounding trebley keeping lots of low end. Highly recommended.
I have a Boss Overdrive/Distortion pedal that has not failed me once in the 20 years I have owned it. As Andy proves in this demo, a good guitarist can make just about anything sound good. Keep up the good videos, thanks for all the good reference material. Cheers!
i set my amp to just where it starts to break up then use a distortion pedal to get a medium to high gain rhythm sound and i'm looking for a pedal to get me a lead boost thats a gain boost as well as a slight volume boost, but will also beef up my tone a little. how would this pedal work in that situation?
im guessing this is a great pedal as a booster for leads, right?
and great demo! I've been looking through boss pedals. i have the ds-1, which is alright but i cant get that right tone dialed in. this one seems great!!
Way to go, PGS! It's great to see demos of all kinds of pedals (not only boutique stuff). I would love to see demos for the BOSS MD2 and the EHX Flanger Hoax.
Amazing how Andy can make this simple, mass-produced Boss pedal sound just as good if not better (to my ears anyway) than the ultra-boutique, wait-list, $200+ drives out there. Just goes to show that price and scarcity shouldn't and do not define tone.
Hey Andy, do you ever get nervous knowing that thousands of people are going to see these, I mean, it's kind of like playing a solo show at a sold out arena.
@cowboytonydee agreed on both statements, but there's already a million vids about boss pedals that show us how they sound. i'd rather hear Andy's awesome playing through some ground breaking brilliant pedals
@15000volts - We have made over 700 video demos in total. 10 of them are of Boss pedals. We think that's a pretty reasonable ratio. Thanks for watching!
@dww0902 In addition, when PGS demo a BOSS product, they show that, in the right hands, those little pedals can sound killer. Not as good as most other pedals, of course, but not as horrible as everybody makes them out to be.
So this is an overdrive pedal right? Not a weak distortion?

If I was not wrong, I used a Laney VC - 30 212 back then with my OS - 2 in front of it. Actually I can only feel that its thin, unless I compared it with the overdrive from the amp. If its ran individually, its still ok. Also, when its battery level is really low, its tone will get really bad and really thin no matter what it ran through.

Nice! I'm sure Andy would do a killer job demoing other Boss pedals that are fantastic, like the RV-5 and the SD-1.
Nothing wrong with Boss pedals, you just need to tweak to their relative sweet spots. Plus with Boss you need to be LOUD for it be effective.

Brilliant pedal for the price.
Nice riff at 2:57

@yitboy11 'Little Girl' on the "Beano" album--John Mayall with Eric Clapton on guitar and vocal on this song. Get the CD and learn everything on it--Eddie Van Halen did when in high school.

Probably one of the best BOSS pedals that I've ever heard!

Not a big fan of the pedal, but the Keely Mod version is really good.

@EVHfan78 I've got that one, with the fat switch. I love it

Professional as always. But what's the significance of the new logo?
MrDmac67 1 year ago
Considering this pedal has been used by John Mayer, Mike McCready, and Edge, I don't think it's right to call it a "crappy Boss pedal."
jcmark611 1 year ago 3
Although I prefer the multi-effects pedals, I still like individuals as well and especially PGS's reviews on them.
dave1sfx 1 year ago
with all do respect to tube users.
MrArsenioOro 1 year ago
@MrArsenioOro Actually, Dimebag is known for having crappy tone, just the way it is. But it's all personal preference anyway. For metal, solid state works pretty well because you don't want power tube distortion from cranking it up too loud, whereas for rock and blues it's desireable

@radioactiveparadise frankly i dont give a dam

I demand DS-1 for the end of all false debates. both positive or negative.

the pedal of the working man! and yes even though PGS stocks some of the holy grails of pedals.. doesn't mean they shouldn't stock BOSS and other working man pedals.
rock on PGS

That's a pretty good sounding pedal.

finally! a good demo of this pedal! Not all boss pedals are bad. Some are gems.

If you want HD content, go on their website (once and for all...). Videos are HD on there. On here, PGS uses the highest allowable bitrate.
Enough with the HD, guys. This is YouTube.

I wouldn't mind seeing a demo of the OD-3.
Ncuab 1 year ago 2
@Ncuab I have one on my pedalboard and it's all i use for distortion. It's a great dirt box. Turned all the way down it gives you a great breakup at a descent volume. Turn up the gain and it will give you all the distortion you need without sounding trebley keeping lots of low end. Highly recommended.
bigtorquehemi 1 year ago
I have a Boss Overdrive/Distortion pedal that has not failed me once in the 20 years I have owned it. As Andy proves in this demo, a good guitarist can make just about anything sound good. Keep up the good videos, thanks for all the good reference material. Cheers!
bluetomatorecords 1 year ago
i set my amp to just where it starts to break up then use a distortion pedal to get a medium to high gain rhythm sound and i'm looking for a pedal to get me a lead boost thats a gain boost as well as a slight volume boost, but will also beef up my tone a little. how would this pedal work in that situation?
peeblesj1131 1 year ago
I want a Deluxe Reverb!
GallGael2 1 year ago
im guessing this is a great pedal as a booster for leads, right?
and great demo! I've been looking through boss pedals. i have the ds-1, which is alright but i cant get that right tone dialed in. this one seems great!!

Budyguy222222 1 year ago
Way to go, PGS! It's great to see demos of all kinds of pedals (not only boutique stuff). I would love to see demos for the BOSS MD2 and the EHX Flanger Hoax.
pearljaime2 1 year ago
Amazing how Andy can make this simple, mass-produced Boss pedal sound just as good if not better (to my ears anyway) than the ultra-boutique, wait-list, $200+ drives out there. Just goes to show that price and scarcity shouldn't and do not define tone.

Such a great pedal. I have owned many booteeks but this pedal has always stayed on the board.

seriously guys, more boss pedals? I always thought of PGS as the store that sells what no one else has. and boss pedals are everywhere
15000volts 1 year ago
@15000volts Yea but it's nice to have a great demo from Andy. You know... we're not all rich enough to buy chorus pedals at 200$...
cowboytonydee 1 year ago
@cowboytonydee agreed on both statements, but there's already a million vids about boss pedals that show us how they sound. i'd rather hear Andy's awesome playing through some ground breaking brilliant pedals

@15000volts Shut it.

@15000volts - We have made over 700 video demos in total. 10 of them are of Boss pedals. We think that's a pretty reasonable ratio. Thanks for watching!

@ProGuitarShopDemos don't get me wrong, these are the best demos in YT and I watch everyone that comes out.
15000volts 1 year ago
@ProGuitarShopDemos
I think it's important for PGS to demo Boss pedals, because that's what's familiar and readily availible everywhere.
It presents the opportunity to use the Boss videos as a benchmark or reference when watching other demoes. /$.02
dww0902 1 year ago 92
@dww0902 Excellent point. Set your bar somewhere.
ZachDRUMMOND 1 year ago
@dww0902 In addition, when PGS demo a BOSS product, they show that, in the right hands, those little pedals can sound killer. Not as good as most other pedals, of course, but not as horrible as everybody makes them out to be.
