You know...it's kind of sad--to me--to look back at older Keith Urban videos from 2005 and earlier. I mean, ever since that first album he released after getting married, his albums just haven't been good at all and I can't stand his newer stuff other than that duet he did with Brad Paisley a couple years ago.

With that being said, Urban is still a great guitarist, but Tommy Emmanuel was named a C.G.P. by Chet Atkins for a reason!

using a non percussive instrument to keep the beat or even as tommy demonstrates here, using an instrument in a non-conventional manner to still reap a melody from is absolute genius.

@jamme90 The guitar Is a percussive instrument, defined by the fact that you have to strike it to get a sound. try to think of the guitar like a snare drum upside down, where as you hit the strings to vibrate the wood-skin, where in snare drum, you hit the skin to vibrate the coils underneath.....Tommy was a drummer first and explained it better than I could.

These are two incredibe, and different in many ways, musicians - each at the top his respective career. And, although they are both arguabley two of the top guitarists in the world, each is different in his perfection. Keith with his vocal and album notariaty and Tommy with his less widely know, but critically acclaimed guitar perfection.

I agree that you can not compare the two. compare a John Mayer, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban. People who are great singers and great pickers. Tommy can sing but he will always be known for playing cause that is pretty much all he does. Keith will never claim to be as good as anyone. He has even said numerous times how better Brad Paisley is than him.

Don't get me wrong, I am one of the biggest Tommy fans on the planet, but playing the guitar is what he does. He can sing, but he is not a "singer". Keith Urban plays the guitar, but is a "singer". I think comparing the abilities of the two is not really a fair comparison.
