@DrStrawfoot Not sure on the instrument itself, but the first time I saw them live I was able to hang with Cooper McBean afterwards and asked him what kind of pick ups he used. He turned me on to Schatten Designs in Canada. They make pick ups for about every stringed instrument imaginable, now have one on my five string Fender banjo. It works great, I rarely have to use the pre amp I bought from them. Will probably get one for my mandolin. Hope this helps, swing by my channel, check us out :-D

That is a 4 string tenor banjo, you play it with a pick.

The 5 string banjo that this artist also plays, can be played with finger picks, bluegrass style or clawhammer frailing style.

that bandanna he has tucked at the end, is it hanging off the end or does he have it under the strings for muting? I've seen folks slide paper between the strings too. Whenever I've tried just ends up muting everything so take it out :(

@Campbell88guitar I don't see how it could change the sound all that much, maybe by muting the drum but I usually do that with my hand. Maybe it helps the stings stay on better, I'm not sure. It's probably just for looks though.
