Yea; in the last 5 meetings your average win margin was 6.6 pts. The only legitimate beating was in 2003 with Vince Young (one of the greatest CF players of all time) at the helm. Other than that it's been lucky breaks and bad calls to favor texas. It's been a great series but I would hardly call it ownage
@ryznaga WOW you're using Vin Diesel quotes in your argument. What's even more sad is you can't even spell his name. The Texas bandwagon will be crashing soon, stick to soccer
@drnkinirish Not a bandwagon fan. I lecture at the University. You got me on the name spelling. I got you on the eight wins to one. have fun in the Big 10. I think you'll find the competition a little more agreeable than you did against the Big 12 South.
@ryznaga Glad to see I'm discussing with a genuine fan and not a bandwagoner. Not sure what the competition will bring in the Big 10 but it looks prestigious on paper. Against the South we had a 25-22 record. But a lot of that is due to coach Bill Callahan (3-10) vs other coaches (Pelini, Solich, Osborne 22-12). Yea Texas has had our number but you have to admit if you are a true fan that in the series you have consistently scraped out a W by the skin on your teeth.
@drnkinirish All good points. I agree. Heck, I am predicting we lose to you in Lincoln. But it is not fair for NU fans to blame all the troubles on UT. Callahan sent the program back big time, and your stats certainly prove it. Glad to see you are back on track--it's good for college football. And yes, we did scrape by a lot, but a conference win is always tough.
@ryznaga We'll see what happens in Lincoln, I'm hoping for a game similar to 2006 with the lead changes, snow flurries but without the loss! Has UT ever had a Callahan effect to it's program before Brown? I'm guessing McWilliams couldn't have been too popular.
@drnkinirish It was John Mackovic. He was the worst-arrogant, and made no attempt to develop the recruiting system. He was routinely hated. The team won a few good games, but there were some horrible, horrible losses. He was run out of town here, AND out of Arizona--by the football team!
I think Texas is 1 title short. Jet Magazine declared 'em champs in '74 also known as the Sears Trophy replica, except Alabama declared the title 1st, so it will have to be split.
Texas won the 1970 Cotton Bowl game effectively winning the 69 Championship! Where exactly do you get your information? National Championships were declared before Bowl Games back then!
Only pathetic teams claim national titles before their bowl games were played. If you want to play that stupid game, Nebraska won 3 more NC's in the 80's.
I call bs on UT's title in '69: don't u have to win a bowl game? Look at how many teams that were 1# and lost a bowl game, crown them all, Texas rule.
@no1pjfan quit replying 2 me, get a life. I said this game brought Texas ou of their 30 year slumber, and I meant it. Look it up noob, Texas has only been good in the last 10 yrs if that. Stop Replying 2 me
It's about more than winning from where I sit. Crouch whined and cried when he didn't win the starting job in 1999. Went home to Omaha to cry to his mommy. I'm a Husker fan and I hate that guy.
I'll take you word for it...I do know that that next home loss was also to Texas. So if you factor Texas out of things...UN had it really rolling. HOOK'EM
This was the beginning of Texas dominance in college football. Beating NU in the at their place, really started the program. Now, Texas is the FSU of the 80's and 90's, winning 10 games yearly and winning their bowl games.
FSU of the 80's? What did FSU do in the 80's that was so impressive, FSU had 2 championships in the 90's, we had 3, shoulda been 4 and FSU with 1 but the refs were paid off in the 93 Orange Bowl. More like Texas' recent success isn't comparable to Nebraska's dominance of the 80's and 90's...Vince Young got one, what else have u done? Yall haven't even won a conference championship in how many years? Your team this year has a shot tho, I'll give u that
I compare Texas to the FSU of the mid 80's and 90's because we both are winning 10 games per year on a yearly basis and we are winning our bowl games. The similarities are there and Mack Brown coached under Bowden and has copied Bowden's path of success.
Thank you for sharing this video. I remember watching this game with my gradfather when I was a jr in high school. With Texas going into Lincoln unranked and Nebraska ranked 7th. Out of all the Texas games i've seen, this has to be in my top 10 of all time.
I'm a Husker fan and I HATED Crouch. He proved how much of a pussy he was when he quit the NFL TWICE. I never respected him - I always liked Scotty Frost more. Scotty was a good Wood River, NE boy who defined what Nebraska football should be.
mayne if crouch hadnt had that fumble and the blackshirts had step up alittle it might have been a different game. but ricky did have a coming out party at the huskers expense.
dude this was one of those rapage games we own the "big red" now and days.face NU fans nebraska will never be the team they once were and its because they dont have frazier or crouch plus bo pelini will never be as loved as tom osbourne was myabe nebraska will be good in 012-016 somewhere in that timeline until the....hook em horns!!
Watch Applewhite after the winning touchdown. He got clobbered so bad that he suffered a slight concussion (that's why Walton was in at QB on the last drive), but he gets up and celebrates, basically just flailing his arms in the air after the play. He was so out of it.
That's the kind of team we're proud of in Lincoln. The kind of team where you may beat us, but you'll take a beating in the process. It used to be that when teams got done playing Nebraska they'd need two full weeks to recover. Hopefully one day it's that way again....
Agreed. Texas has won in Nebraska, but they had to work for every inch. I'd love for Lincoln to be a place you're afraid to play at. It's just good for college football.
Huskers lost because Solich couldn't come up with more than 4 plays in this game. QB left, QB right, QB draw up the middle, Husker punt. That guy should of never been an OC. What a waste of Tom Osborne recruits.
I was at this game, as a part of the Longhorn Band (only about half of us got to go). It was great to be there, and I have to say, the Nebraska fans were some of the CLASSIEST I've ever encountered. I had one guy even come up to me after the game, shake my hand, and wish us good luck on the rest of the season. I almost hated that we won.
@chupr0kabra I was in the Husker band the following year, glad you had a good time there and hopefully can make it back up to Lincoln for this upcoming game. Should be a rowdy one!
Great game... I'm a huge HUGE Husker fan, so it was a hard loss, but still a great game by both teams. Nebraska and Texas almost always seem to bring up very close, tough fought battles... I can't wait until we play again, should be another good game with Bo Pelini at the helm.
Texas also gave Nebraska their only loss in 1999, robbing them of a national title. Texas also beat NU in 1996 in the Big 12 title game. Somehow UT just beats NU and usually in very close games.
1998 was a good year: Crouch, Major, Ricky, Alexander, Solich, Snyder,... respect to Nebraska. Callahan=soft, Nebraska=power house what were you thinking by callahan? you need a pittbull like stoobs (FYI, I personally don't like him cuz horns will never stop kicking him in the butt!)
As a long time Texas fan, I give HUGE praise to the Nebraska fans! The absolute classiest thing I have ever seen in 5 decades of watching sports at all levels: The Texas victory in this game at Nebraska broke a 47 game home winning streak, but as the Texas players left the field the Nebraska fans gave them a standing ovation. The game was exceptional but it is that moment by the Nebraska fans I will remember. WOW!!!
I get that all the time, believe it or not. I remember one instance several years ago where I had a Baylor friend who went to Nebraska to watch BU in 1990 or 1991. He told me he expected to get A&M or Arkansas-like treatment from our fans (and expected BU to get killed, which they did). But he said the standing ovation the BU team won us his support thereafter.
On another note, I think Texas, for the most part, has a beautiful fanbase. The first Texas Ex I ever met was a fine woman from Victoria ten years ago at this time...and much like most of the Texas fans I'd meet thereafter, she was beautiful inside and out. Austin is a fine city, and UT is one of the best public schools in America.
As I said below, I hate losing, but I'd much rather lose to this school than sCUm, OU or A&M (all of which I detest).
Of all the Texas/Nebraska games I've seen, this one hurt the damn hardest...47 game home win-streak, out the window
I think we're cursed against Texas, in both football and baseball...but at least those are two winning programs with hardware. Props to the Horns on this win, even though this one hurt like holy hell...
Yeah, texas and nebraska always played hard when they played. As for Major, Nebraska was the only team that could really get a handle on him. Yall harrased and blized him alot, like in the big 12 championship game texas lost.
last year i (horns fan) went with my buddy (skers fan) to lincoln for the game. it snowed in my face and it was the loudest reddest (even though they were pushing for a "black out") stadium with the best fans i've ever encountered. 4th quarter, down by 5 snowing in my face! not fun! until we came through, cant wait to go to austin this year!

No, you didn't have to win your bowl game back then. Bowl games were just exhibition, not like now. And you call me a n00b.
For example, Alabama claims a NC in 1941 while being ending their season ranked 20th with a 9-2 record.
