Kind of annoying to see all the people whining about how this is not like DQ IX.
Don't get me wrong, i love DQ IX too but it is quite different from the other DQ games with the crafting system, character and party creation, different approach to vocations, etc.
The original DQ games were all pretty much like this one, and i don't really need much to change there.
The only DQ IX feature i am missing here are the more detailed characters and visible gear changes.
This is a port from the original version which was on the SNES
they ported DQ IV, V, and VI to the DS with a few upgraded graphics and such, but they remain pretty faithful I heard, IX is still the newest version and maybe sometime next year Dragon Quest X will be released for the Wii
Graphics are horrible like a bad street fighter game. just bobbing along not really walking. You dont get to choose your own hero , you have to be that blue haired boy. aswell as not choosing your own friends, you get given thous people.

You really need to be a hardcore RPG fan to enjoy these classic Dragon Quest tales. I just got this game, and i don't like it. First off, the "hero" is a boy. And being a girl, that just made me feel wierd. On Dragon Quest 9, you could customize your character, and pick which gender you wanted to be. And somehow...this game reminds me of "Golden Sun, Dark Dawn"... I literally BEGGED for this game, and now...im very sad. I'm returning this game at Gamestop....

I just got this game and already I'm hooked. As far as the story goes it's just meh, but the battle system is pretty good. it seems a little smoother than previous DQ games. I played DQ 4 a while back and lost interest in that because the random encounters took so frikin long to finish, but it seems like they fixed that issue in this one. Plus I like how they have job classes in this one, but you don't get those until later in the game. If you like DQ games then you'll probably like this one.
@rogerrnt1990 Considering there WEREN'T any defined characters in your party for IX (so you could make your own), that's not really surprising.
Me, I think VIII is the best one. But I really want to play V - it's supposed to be Yuji Hori's own personal favourite in the DQ series, and it really has one of the best plots ever in a console game regarding emotional involvement and character development. :)

personally i didnt care for Spirit Tracks. then again im old school.. and dont like any of the "new style" zeldas. I just got DQ6 and i actually think its pretty cool. Graphics are lame.. but in a way thats refreshing in itself (like zelda im also an old school jrpg fan.) So from one DQ fan to another id say go for DQ6. I loved 9.. but i think 6 has many of the same qualities but with a more original feel.

As a character ... well, we're MEANT to pity him, but considering he's throwing, basically, a cosmic temper tantrum, it's not too hard to consider him as such there, too. He's almost a carbon copy of the main antagonist from DQIV, though thankfully a mite saner given he DIDN'T hate on all of humanity after his love interest, dying, pleaded him NOT TO.

@lunarnut the first three were remade for gameboy advance a few years ago, and this is continuing the remakes. i doubt there will be another remake of them until there is a remake of at least seven. and if they remake it, it would be a kick ass wii title i assume.
@EPYKproductions Fully aware of that, as I have both Dragon Warrior 1&2 and Dragon Warrior 3 on Gameboy Color. They were also remade for the Super Famicon but those were never translated here (to my knowledge). I was just expressing how it would be nice for Square Enix to give that trilogy the same treatment they have with 4-6. Oh well, I'm happy enough as it is. Final Fantasy 4 coming on PSP.
Wow is this coming out soon? I've been playing through the Jap one (in English) on my XBox (SNES emu) and Wii (Snes Emu) and G2 (Android phone, Snes Emu) depending on where I am using saving.
Great game ... in ways. It doesn't seem like the DQ series has as much.. stuff going on as FF series from the same time. I mean FF6 seemed super fast pace in comparison. However, I'm REALLY enjoying it and can't put it down.. go figure.
I read about this game in a video game mag some 14 years ago and was sooo pissed it wasnt being released state-side. actually found it for sale shortly after (japanese super famicon version) at a videogame exchange store. found a way to play it on my U.S. super nintendo, with a copy of the translated story and menu functions print-out from the net. Now it is being ported to the ds with a makeover. hey young self, patience is a virtue.

@thenewnoob09 not even, dragon quest 9 can be beaten around 15 to 20 hours even just with one character too, the whole game is just bunch of pointless sidequests, not much in terms of storyline
Final Fantasy is better too and I don't like Final Fantasy either but compared to Dragon Quest then I "love" Final Fantasy lol

there will never be a continuation of 9. if you fucking dumb asses wanna see the conclusion of the game, do the fucking dlc side quests. they continue and finish the storyline. why would they waste two mainline games on a mediocre storyline? i love 9 but gotta admit 8, 5, and 3 had better stories than it

Dragon Quest 9 is originally for DS yes but it will not have a sequel
but the next game of this series will be Dragon Quest 10 coming out for Nintendo Wii

@lunarnut the first three were remade for gameboy advance a few years ago, and this is continuing the remakes. i doubt there will be another remake of them until there is a remake of at least seven. and if they remake it, it would be a kick ass wii title i assume.

@EPYKproductions Fully aware of that, as I have both Dragon Warrior 1&2 and Dragon Warrior 3 on Gameboy Color. They were also remade for the Super Famicon but those were never translated here (to my knowledge). I was just expressing how it would be nice for Square Enix to give that trilogy the same treatment they have with 4-6. Oh well, I'm happy enough as it is. Final Fantasy 4 coming on PSP.

Wow is this coming out soon? I've been playing through the Jap one (in English) on my XBox (SNES emu) and Wii (Snes Emu) and G2 (Android phone, Snes Emu) depending on where I am using saving.
Great game ... in ways. It doesn't seem like the DQ series has as much.. stuff going on as FF series from the same time. I mean FF6 seemed super fast pace in comparison. However, I'm REALLY enjoying it and can't put it down.. go figure.

I read about this game in a video game mag some 14 years ago and was sooo pissed it wasnt being released state-side. actually found it for sale shortly after (japanese super famicon version) at a videogame exchange store. found a way to play it on my U.S. super nintendo, with a copy of the translated story and menu functions print-out from the net. Now it is being ported to the ds with a makeover. hey young self, patience is a virtue.
