It's mostly an English thing, ie in England - centred around the Avebury/Stonehenge area of the country. And it has really grown from there.
Fascinating as an underground art form - but they're not made by aliens or UFOs.

@achzdck The term dark matter & dark energy is relatively a term for a new theory. But it is not the dark matter that baffle the scientist, it is the way how the dark energy 'behave', how it forces the expansion (the constant distance) between the galaxies, between the solar system and the velocity/speed of expansion.
Take an example; let place 25 chairs in a class room ( consists of 5 rows, the distance between each chairs, either from left to right, or right to left, front to rear or....

@p4tst3r from our current scientific situation, our scientists had just understand/mastered the General science, when comes to Advance Science our scientists are still the beginners, hundreds/thousands of new theories out waiting to be discovered. @achzdck .. con't .....is expanding faster and faster and what really baffle our astronomers is, the expansion is actually a kind of 'evenly spreading'. The shows that there is another kind of new energy at work or new forces at work ... our astronomers name it dark energy. If these scientist are stuck to the same old principles then forever they will be stagnant ( just like you, being stuck for 38 years smoking pot ... ouch ... no disrespect intended ).

About 15 years ago, USA had manage to map our Genome, but to really understand fully about our Genome it will takes another 50-70 years. To able to altered/repair/induce new genes into our Genome it may take us another 100 years or more. why other mammals/great apes intelligent 'stayed'. According to scientist, we the homo sapiens started to 'change' only a couple of ten of thousand years ago. Why didn't we started to change 3/5 millions years ago ... why only a couple of tens thousands ago only ? Have we been short listed by aliens then, are we the only specie that was being used as an experiment guinea pig ? I believed our Genome was slightly 'altered' some time ago ... and now the aliens are still here to monitor us ....

... the 'evidence' is right inside us. We have been around for few millions years, many mammals shared the same/par intelligence as us but why only us, only one specie out of the thousands of others can 'improved' our intelligence. Our closest cousins, the great apes who ancestors history is even more longer than us, and their DNA profile is almost identical to us, why only us (homo sapiens) can evolved into what we are today ...... con't ...

Title Crop Circles. But most of us here are more interesting in who made the crops circles, is it man made of done by alien. So it is actually it is more on the alien topic.
