I dont like Stephen daldry's personality, becaase it's like he doesn't want to be there, not that i care, but the inerview would have been 10 times better with just david.
hmm.. what do you mean by he always came across a little lost? I read that David is shy and sensitive. Did you have interaction with him or just observed him from a distance? and when was this encounter? I'm a huge fan of David and I'm very jealous of you! :D
I have German friends and I was quite surprised how they all spoke English quite well when I was in Germany the past two years. Then I learn they start them at it at the age of 7 years and it is there 2nd language. David Kross reminds me of them with his German accent but I find him very talented and the way he does his interviews seem to make him down to earth.
.In the movie, the last time in the court, Michaels tears falling, the scene is moving . But I think in that scene the dress was not correct, that day Michael should wear the shirt, but not the sweater. Because there is a scene like this: in the morning ,before Michael went to the court , he was putting on his shirt , and at the gate of court , when he smoking, he wear the shirt , but when he in the court, it changed, he is in a sweater.
Good catch wendy..I saw this movie so many times and didn't catch that. But one could also assume that he could've worn a shirt underneath the sweater? That is possible, no? Anyway, I was very caught up in the drama and never noticed it. Great eye!

His English is shaky. Which I think is why he looked lost. He wasn't sure what was being said or how to answer. That's why they paired him with Daldry, who could cover for that.
o! that is so cool that he had to learn english for the film then. i really wouldn't be able to tell! he seemed so fluent! he needs to make more american films! i was trying to follow other movies which he starred in, but i get lost way too easily...
I think the reason they had them do this interview paired (Together) as they say is because David's English isn't as strong as it perhaps will be some day soon. This is a great launch to his international career as a leading young film star.
Don't worry about Ralph! He WILL win an Oscar some day. Maybe some day soon. He's certainly paid his dues...but I think he split his own vote this year by having THREE big roles in play. "The Reader", "The Duchess" and "In Bruges." Y'know, he's onstage in London at the National right now doing "Oedipus." That must be something to see!
If you go to Best Picture Oscar Predictions elsewhere on this channel, you'll see that one of us did indeed predict it, though the other three of us, myself included, predicted "The Dark Knight. " But yes, "The Reader" was a surprise, and I for one am delighted! It also got nominated for Best Director, Stephen Daldry, even though the DGA did not nominate him. It's also gotten Best Actress, Kate Winslet, Best Adapted Screenplay & Cinematography! And it could win, I think! Beautiful film!
I shouldn't have underestimated Harvey Weinstein. Now he's telling the L.A. Times that he's going to try and campaign The Reader to a Best Picture win.
NO ONE should EVER underestimate Harvey Weinstein!!! Especially not now, after what he's been able to accomplish with "The Reader"! I think it's faaabulous, because I liked the film sooo much and yes, indeed, he could AND SHOULD go after Best Picture! Why not? "Slumdog" may not be as secure as it looks,IMHO. Front-runner for too long status...I think he could do this! He's got Daldry, Kate, David Hare & Roger Deakins! They ALLL could win with him pushing them!
Yup. And now Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack have been listed as Oscar nominees for producing The Reader. I'm starting to think that they really will vote The Reader as Best Picture as a way of honoring two great filmmakers. So, Pollack, Minghella, and Ledger -- three posthumous Oscar winners in one night? Maybe?!
David is so sweet! And such an amazing actor, of course! I want to be his best friend, haha, he seems really nice :)

I was surprised The Reader got in for Best Picture. Was anyone predicting it?
Congratulations on Daldry going 3/3. He's received a Best Director nomination for every film he's directed!
