"Ø" is pretty much identical to "U" in some (American) English words.

Examples:

Cup (Cøp), Brush (Brøsh), Fur (Før)

The entire word is pronounced at a pace similar to "Law", not as quick as "Love"

My Swedish relatives always said not to complain when something bad happens because it could always be worse. Our odd version on Swedish gratitude--LOL! Kind of another version of your philosophy. ;)

I'm 2nd-3rd generation American, tho, and never learned Swedish so I can't help you with pronunciation.
