  • lol..look at their Billy and Johnny dugarees....ha ha ha!!!

  • You're welcome, marylin manson

  • DAMNED

  • clowns are cool.go kill yourself you Lazy fuck

  • Comment removed

  • Another bunch of clowns. I hope they are all dead now.

  • That crowd has not even a clue of what they are seeing.

  • Was is this frikkin Thomas Gottschalk? What a cunt. Right now the best paid "Entertainer" in Germany.

  • that guy almost got blown up

  • @2:03 he was rockin way to hard

  • IDIOT ARSEHOLE!! Lol...

  • ....and the crowd went wild......ish!

  • i love Rat's choregraphy at 2:09....my favorite band forever....

  • just for u xx

  • Saw "em in a little club (called Network?) out in LI I think it was '81-a band of us NYC punks made a pilgrimage out there on the LIRR...the club probably had a 100 person capacity, there were about 50-60 people in the house. The stage riser was maybe 2 ft high so they were effectively playing in the midst of the pogoing crowd.

  • @nycgman Out on Long Island, really? Any idea where? Must have been a blast.

  • @Tracymmo I recall it was near Huntington-and a blast it was! 32 years ago and I can remember the show very well-it takes something special to make that kind of impression.

  • They played for about 2 1/2 hrs, several encores (we wouldn't accept that the "last" song was the last and were all shouting "encore" at the top of our lungs until they would come back out again and again) basically every song from their 3 albums. And they were incredible-the energy of a freight train locomotive, tight as shit and at the same time loose and relaxed.

  • So loud that you could feel it through your body, Rat was an arse stomping maniac, Paul Gray grinding out the bottom end, Dave the Dark Overlord incarnate, and the Captain was beyond description incredible-Strat/Marshall cranked to 11, his tone was roaring when he played chords and a soaring wail during solos which were even better than those on their records. I've seen a (very) few other performances that were on par with that evening, but I swear that show was like a religious experience!

  • took me till about five seconds before he "broke" the neck off his guitar to realize thry were just playing along, something about the look on there faces when they were buttrockin-out. then I noticed the drummer playing one-handed!

    '

  • any song over 2 minutes is over staying your welcome

  • @EvoinOZ love that. ahaha

  • "RAT SCABIES ! ! !"

  • i want some fuzzy pants too

  • An influence on Marilyn Manson? Most Certainly, such a seminal masterpiece everything the Damned did.

  • Actually, following last post, I just called up Machine Gun Etiquette... and the cover that came up is completely different from mine... never seen it before. Mine has a photo cover. Did they do a different pressing? I bought mine in Australia 1979.

  • I love how Sensible doesn't even pretend to be playing along to the track, which is straight off Machine Gun Etiquette. Sensible is wearing that fuzzy suit on the album cover, walking down a street in New York. First LP I ever bought, aged 13. The Damned bought some much-needed humour to early punk but by Christ they could play. Check out their fantastic cover of MC5's Looking At You off same LP. Pretty heavy duty musicianship.

  • Great group

  • This group is more PUNK than Punk itself!!

  • Great vocals

  • I WANT FUZZY PANTS

  • ...i LOVE this wonderful SONG!!!!

  • ok energi,og d r vel d.

  • I love how the audience is watching this amazing performance and they may as well be watching a chess match.

  • 55 idiots needs love !

  • believe it or not : i saw it back then. the damned, the clash and the dead kennedys were my holy trinity. and then one day i switch on the telly and woooooooooooooosh.................. i made my peace with playback that day :-)

  • Every time I watch this video, I feel the need to comment. So if you guys think I have no life, it's only partly true. Ok, onwards with the comment: This band makes me want to die...in a good way. *notworthynotworthy*

  • god i remeber thisw band lol soo goofy

  • The lead singer was quite good, he could sing! I always thought they were the shittest of the punk bands though. Not a patch on The Pistols, Clash, Ruts and X ray spex!

  • May i be the first to say WHAT THE FUCK IS CS WEARING. o.O

  • i think i know what happened....this is the studio recording over the live performance and i think i know why....the damned went out there and just to piss off everyone there, played bad so they would be forced to use the recording XD if thats the case than THAT is brilliant XD id do the same thing haha

  • You just heard it from Dracula.

    Really cool.

  • I think they're lip synching this. It sounds like the stuio cut for the album Machine Gun Etiquette. Brilliant track though !

  • 54 People, Can go back to there crappy Green day cd`s

  • @shedendboy1 when you say that you´re saying Green day is punk?????????? fuck you!!!

  • @MrCrappysmith. You fucking idiot, When did i say Green day is Punk ? You Don`t get irony, Do you, So Fuck you !!!!

  • CLASSIC!!! Excellent live, true legends!

  • GO!!!!!!! (0.21) Brilliant.

  • I went to see these last night at rcok city in notthingham, it was absolutely amazing, they played this song as an en-cor and everyone went mad! It was epic, and dave still looks gorgeous!

  • Is "Machine Gun Etiquette" the best album released by one of the early punk bands? Better than "Never Mind the Bollocks" or "London Calling"? Better than "Closer" or "Rocket to Russia"? Better than, dare I say, "Damned Damned Damned"? Methinks yes... Talk amongst yourselves...

  • @PetertheImpaler as an album, i've always liked machine gun etiquette better. its more mature and polished and easier to listen. however, damned x3 i think captures their raw energy better, neat x3 and new rose are fabulous, but many of the other songs i can live without.

  • @allouTV I dunno, I'd say this track (and video) captures their raw energy pretty well, and furtherm -- wait...allouTV...I know that nam-- OH, JESUS, YOU'RE THAT GUY WHO HAS SEX WITH OCTOPI!! OH, MAN, YOU LOSER!! THAT'S BESTIALITY! GOD, YOU MAKE ME SICK!! DON'T EVER ASSOCIATE YOUR NAME WITH MINE AGAIN, AND GET THAT GARBAGE OFF THE INTERWEBS!! LISTEN, IF I WANTED TO WATCH A PATHETIC RETARD SCREW A FAT-HEADED, SKINNY-LEGGED BOTTOM-FEEDER, I'D WATCH "ONE NIGHT IN PARIS"...again...

  • I wanna look like the singer

  • i love it

  • Fucking brilliant.

  • Nice save at 2:02

  • how can the audiance just sit there while rat scabies tears the fuckin guts out of it, get up and thrash that shithole you knuckleheads

  • dammit they suck

  • @lunchmind You've got to be joking. The Damned are quite possibly the greatest punk band ever - and they even do other genres as well. And they're the real thing - not this watered down crap (that actually made money) from more recent years.

  • cant wait to see them next week with guests the slits.

  • The most underappreciated band ever.

  • Wow, sounds like Horror punk in it's infancy

I may be wrong thinking otherwize

  • @traditioninaction in sid vicious name amen

  • @traditioninaction in sid vicious name amen

  • so yea, lastnight I got to sing this with dave vanian. he stuck the microphone in my face when he saw how passionately i was singing. haha.

  • Best opening bass I've ever heard.

  • Wow.. just fantastic how the guitarist still manages to play on with a broken guitar.

  • @traditioninaction DAMN RIGHT!

  • @traditioninaction this was skater shit, everyone skated to the damned.

  • Simply amazing esp. the Rat doing windmills right at the end.

  • which year was that?

  • This is one of the few videos on Youtube without a comment on how the number dislikes followed by some witty remark about the song title. Oh the temptation....I don't think I can fight it....Bleh! Is ok. I fought it. The power of the Damned compelled me. Amen.

  • when i am 90 i will still be listening to this amazing, perfect sound. i promise!

  • great band seen em many times, them and the buzzers top bands

    yes i am that old!

  • @traditioninaction well, listen to the damned. don't listen to the gay shit, save that for the gay boys that like that.. i hate cunts that sook

  • bahah check out the end where the neck comes off the guitar....hilarious

  • RAT SCABES!

  • HAPPY 50TH DAVE!!!

  • Happy Birthday Dave !!!

  • The Audience look like a graveyard with a pulse. Saw them about 10 years ago and the whole venue went off!!!

  • Good fucking times :)

  • protomisfits?

  • @elgritodelasardina or misfits is post-damned

  • @elgritodelasardina actually this makes more sense

  • @elgritodelasardina exactly!

  • LOVE LOVEEEE SONGGGGGG

  • i like turtles

  • Wow! People leaving comments could at the VERY least go GOOGLE this band first!! The Damned were one of the best bands out of England back in the day ... they knew how to sing & play instruments (for the most part)!

  • When was this recorded?

  • Just for you here's a love song...

  • HEY !!! WATCH JELLY PLANE on YOUTUBE !!!

  • 0:17 I wonder if that scared the host.

  • OMG, what the hell is Sensible's clothing JA JA JA it looks like a psicotic Teddy Bear.

It's funny to see Vanian dressed like "Igor the gravedigger" and Sensible wearing that... those.. damn, however could be called that he wears. Perfect visual oxymoron.

  • RATTT SCABIESSS!!!

  • Great mime!!

  • omg how cool was that

  • Carrying on from below, if anyone wants to check out The Ruts who doesn't already know them, a few recs for ya's!

    Shine on me.

Love in Vain - written about Malcolm Owen "H" addiction, as was:

    In a Rut

    Babylon's Burning

    Jah War

Although they have dropped of the radar now, they were big'ish in the early 80's here in the UK & some of their songs carried a much more reggae influenced style.

Sorry if a lot of you guy's already know them, but if not they are worth checking out.

  • did u notice Dave staring at Algy when he was giving the finger towards the camera. maybe he thought this guys an arsehole and that's why he didn't last. could be wrong tho....

  • @loudnout i think you could be wrong ,mate, cos the captain often played naked and if you look at the "neat neat neat "clip uploaded by blank tv the good captain actually pisses on the audience (and gets in a fight),i think algy didn't last cos he may have got too drunk to play.but there's a dvd of the pistols" live at the longhorn",where sid is acting the dick, screwing up the gig andthe rest of the band are thinking and saying what a cunt. It's kinda painful and embarrassing

  • son fachos de aca hasta la luna...

    ¡

  • @mjtwister10 Facha mi mama.

  • Voldemort?

  • they play cambridge nearly every yr..nice!!

  • over a million views!!!! nice!!

  • I never knew Count Dracula could sing as well

  • Rat Scabies sounds like Vvyvian Basterd from The Young Ones.

  • I lived it for real in London during the late 70's & 80's & saw a lot of great Punk bands. The Damned were the real deal, I would have put them up there with The Pistols.

From reading "Hammer of the Gods" on Led Zep it would appear that they were great fans as well, pitching up at a number of gigs!

  • @98pup100 The sox packers, um, I meant sex pistols, were (thankfully) a one-and-done buncha posers with zero talent or substance. And that one shitty little record they made can't compare to anything by the Damned. And do keep in mind which UK punk band had ALL the firsts (single release, album release, single to hit the UK charts, tour of America, break up and then reform (though without Brian James, which was fine by me).

  • @neverfrisco

Unlike the 60 odd thousand people I have meet who claimed to have seen The Pistols at the 100 Club which held, I think, 300 people, I never saw The Pistols live!

I still think Never Mind... stands up as a great album. Sid Vicious was always a nuciance, but most bands have one of those. Paul Cook & Steve Jones went on to form The Proffesionals who were a great band.

Back in the day I also loved a band called The Ruts. The guy topped himself in the bath, but them's were good

  • @98pup100 Babylons Burning!

  • I just got my tickets to see them in october!!! I am PUMPED.

  • I got to see them like 2 years ago in D.C, if you ever get the chance take it! one of the best live sets I have ever seen. Even better live than on record.

  • Rat scabies!

  • cannot wait to see The Damned! <3 Dave Vanian...

  • クチパクなんだね(笑)

  • Sensibles broken neck Obvious tip off theyre actually not playing-- pre dates PIL on AB obvious tip off actually not playing- lydon just a little more obvious though, or Arty. Damned were never about art. Just good Rock n Roll. Well played Damned!!!

  • Dave was the bollocks......

  • and how is he playing guitar with a broken guitar

  • @DamonAlbarnFan He's Captain Sensible that's how!

  • @TheTrainRex Actually i just realized this is the studio version with live footage.

  • @DamonAlbarnFan Yeah I know.

  • I believe the crowd has never heard anything like this.

  • The makeup artist Michael Monroe are doing great with this song, in his ass kicking band even today! I miss Ginger though.

  • what a f**king band ! Long live The Damned

  • SWEET, the Muppets do punk!

  • COUNT CHOCULA!!!!

  • one of the best punk band (and more) of all times

  • Damn, I didn't know Tiny Tim sang in a Punk Band.

  • Does anyone know what they actually played in this video? It's obviously fake because he snapped the guitars neck off at the end and the guitar was still playing

  • Rat Scabies is the greatest name ever.

  • Vanian's vocals are the best in punk.

  • in all reality the only true punk bands are the ramones and sex pistols... thats really about it

  • Algy Ward was The Damned's best bassist

  • great song

  • For something worth watching, look up PIL - This Is Not A Love Song.

  • Many people say that punk died the day the damned took the stage.

  • @RemoteMemory Many people don't know much.

  • @RemoteMemory Really? I could have sworn that Mark P said in Sniffin Glue that Punk died the day The Clash signed to CBS! Your comment by the way is totally daft. The Damned back in the day (and especially when 'Machine Gun Ettiquette' came out) were once of the best live bands around. Obviously if you had seen them you would never say such things!

  • @DoogeMeister

Well, this was said in an interview with PIL and John Lydon (Rotten). Lydon said he didn't much care for the label punk, and his bandmates said if you have to label the movement as "punk" then punk died the first time that the damned took the stage.

I do not like the damned, but power to the people who do... my opinion is no more valid than yours, and yours no better than mine. If everyone always liked the same thing, this world would be a huge bore.

  • @RemoteMemory Who gives a shit if it didn't bring down the Government? It kicks Arse and is a great drunk-a-long track! Just thrash out to it, enjoy yourself and forget about trying to save the World for once!

  • What's great about this video is that with each repeated viewing, it's still hilarious. The first time, I focused mostly on the bassist, then Captain Sensible, and then David Damien, and last but definitely not least, the excellent hyper Keith Moon style drummer.

  • Thanks brian110x. This is as awesome as New Rose. I also watched their Grimly Fiendish and was blown away by their musicianship and excellent songwriting once again. Now I have to check out some other videos by them. I was only half-conscious of them in the early 80s, but better late than never.

  • Dude, this was in the "if you like adam and the ants" section. These losers SUCK NUTS!

  • Comment removed

  • @MemoryOfTheRose Thats right dude stick it to the man and keep trolling. Like the rest of the world. Anti-Conformity doesnt exist. Were all our own people. JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

    IDIOT

  • awsome!

  • 44 tossers don't know real music.

  • Here you can see from whom Marylin Manson stole his look (except that he looks shit in this look because he is a faggot).

  • Comment removed

  • What year is this?

  • @MikaTamni circa 1979.
