  • @jayDpiPER ... ofcourse this is applicable to a bamboo flute as well. In fact all lessons put up by Nina are application to a bamboo flute

  • Your so wonderful, I play clarinet but love the flute.

I play flute and piccolo, flute just for a year, and some people think Im crazy going to a picolo so early..But i love piccolo and flute so much, but i'm just a clarient person.lol

  • LOL DOUBLE TOUNGING! MEY FAVOURITE, OH YEAH!!!

  • Hi Nina, first of all, thanks for your instructional videos, they are great !

I'm a univesrsity Student of flute on Brazil, and i can double tongue well, but, i can´t improve my velocity, my tongue is "slow" !

Do you have any tip to improve this ?

I want a online lesson with you, but my english it isn´t so good, so i don´t n know if i will understand 100% of your class... what do you think ?

  • Nina , your lessons are Great!

  • is it normal for my tongue to get tired? and does this take some practise to do double articulations quickly? thankyou

  • This is helping me so much! Thank you for posting this!

  • i have bamboo flute... is it applicable too? thanks

  • @jayDpiPER I'm not sure as I never played bamboo flute.

  • think this type of tonguing could be done with saxophone and cornet?

  • @ClueLou maybe, try it. i woulnt thinnk so for reed instruments

  • My feeling about the plaiyng is: You have to become your instrument !

Thanks Nina! You have all my admirings! Kamila

  • 22,000 views!! My God!! The most prolific flute teacher of all time!! Larry in Buffalo!!

  • AAaarrrrghhh!! Double tonguing has given me such trouble because I learned to tongue incorrectly when I was younger. I'm currently working on the Mozart Concerto in G for my flute jury next week and I just wanted to say that your comments on tee-yah definitely helped me see it in a different way.

Now I just have to play it for the woodwind faculty that way... haha.

  • The proof is in the pudding? I have never heard that before... but no nina, you have a wonderful sound and a great understanding of flute playing. I thank you for posting these videos but I do have a question:

since it is of importance to practice daily just how often, and long do you practice each day, or simply in a week? Im curious

  • i don't speak english!!

i want to learn to play!!!

    Place subtitles in Spanish

    PLEASE!!!

for the love to the music

  • How do you play those hight notes?

  • Nina, This video as well as your other videos have been the most important classes I have recieved. You explain your self in a way that is so easy to understand and I find it simple to tray and practice. You make it seem easier than any other teacher and it is in fact easier after seeing these videos. And bye the way,you look so beautiful and seem to enjoy it so much I just feel I enjoy practiceing it as well after watching these classes. Thanks!

  • Nina...I owe you almost ALL of my flute skills.

I've never had a private teacher, but you've been able to teach me almost everything anyways!

  • I love you Tina..I will married with you !!

  • Always hard for me to be conscious of my air output, resulting in articulation frustration.. great advice on holding it back for easing articulation, I'll keep it in mind!

  • we not only heard a beatifull sound as we learn a lot too.

  • The Proof Is In The Pudding, folks. Nina is right about practicing T&G. I have been struggling with my breath support after spending long periods of time not practicing, and in basically one day of methodically practicing my T&G slurred, I've re-discovered it. For me, it's something that I already learned and knew years ago as a flute major, but once I thought I lost it, the T&G helped me re-gain the technique FAST. And it's great for my embouchure and most of all my fingers.

  • Interesting, I dont often use double tonguing because I can single tongue very fast. My teachers are always astonished that I single tongue most things. So because of this I need to practice it more. It's triple tonguing that I have the most difficulty with!

  • how do u practice single tonguing? so that u can tongue fast?

  • Thanks for your response. The focus on your lips is very usefull. My own position is better than I thought.

  • Hi Nina! It's Carlos from Brazil once more. Some time ago I started practising this exercise, but it used to be fairly uneven. Then, my teacher and I realized that it would be better to get started with fingering exercises then coming back to Taffanel & Gaubert #4. I think it has worked and I feel the improvement. Yes, using a metronome is the key. I also use a tuner to get the notes right pitch. Kisses! You're awesome!

  • I loved this video! Its inspired me to practice my scales alittle bit more and to practice them with more enthusiasm.

There's a video here on youtube that I thought was really beautiful. You've probably already played this piece of music before but I think you would enjoy the performance. Go to the search area and type in "Frieda Chan, Bryan Wagorn Concertino" to watch it.

  • Thanks for posting this really useful video.

  • Wish you would write a book and include all your lessons on DVDs.

  • VERY WEIRD!

  • Yay Taff/Gaub. #4 !!! God I'm a geek....(I play them way too much)

  • Nice video:) What kind of room are you playing in, if I might ask?

  • It is my office at NKU.

  • Thank you for this interesting demonstration!

I think your demonstration is superb and helpful, at least to understand the basic concept of such repetitive studies. (Even if I am personally not on a level to practice such things, and find such exercises somewhat boring (for an amateur)).

  • Leitzen:

Scales are fun! Really! Yes, I actually like them -- believe it or not.

  • Of course I believe it ... and i would agree with a good time amount for flute playing.

But if I have only 20 minutes time for flute playing on a normal working day, "scales" is not what I can enjoy.

But nevertheless these demonstrations are most interesting and very helpful - no question.

I agree with John. You are making the world a better place.

  • Is this applicable to trumpet playing?

  • I can't say since I never played trumpet. You can try it and tell me or ask your teacher.

  • I took your advice. I think I was trying to blow too much air. It seems when I slow down and blow less air my tongue gets faster, and I produce better articulation.

  • I took your advice. I think I was blowing too hard. When I blow softly my tongue moves faster.

  • Tee-ya-tuk-ah....isn't that an old Navajo word that means if you want to be a good musician you have to know your scales inside out. Just kidding. Another GREAT flute lesson. Keep them coming. You are making the world a better place. John
