its not timing, it's keywords.

for example, "exciting" is drink, "mind" is two etc etc. (just examples, idk the real deal)

so when he says one of those words, she knows what number to say.

i learned something like that while reading 'the game'

This is how it's done. It's got nothing to do with timing. The iPhone and iPod Touch have a very precise movement registrar. If you shake it, the iPhone notices it and will perform an action. If you put the glass on the table, the iPhone will be shoken a little bit and it will register this as a '1'.

So, this is how to do it.

1) Choose number 1,2,3 or 4.

2) Which number did you take?- 2

3) Take the glass of the table, put it back. Take a sip and put it back again.

4) The result is number 2.

What about speach recognition. I thought it might work so I made a program using VB 6.0 and it worked. My program shows you the 4 options {1,2,3,&4} Then I ask you what option you took. Meanwhile the Laptop's Mic hears what you'll say, & show you what you chose. It'll be much simpler than timing-based trick.

I don't know if the iPhone has a speach recognition feature since I don't have one. But it'll work in the same way as my program on the Laptop.

I downloaded an app like this.

The first trick was that the iPhone can tell which direction you tilt it as you pick it up popping up whatever number programmed to do so. Then it also works on how fast or slow you turn it.

Heh, took me about 10 minutes, but I've got it... for sure.

Here's the trick: The phone cycles through the numbers in intervals (my guess is about 10 seconds per number.) He wastes the correct amount of time until the phone is on the correct number, and times it right to pick it up. He knows when it's chaning numbers by the sparkly sound that the phone makes. When it is two, he waits for the second sparkly sound. if she had chosen 3, he would have just had to waste more time.

I'm a magician and just bought this after seeing the demo The secret is very elusive and undetectable!!! The app is a STEAL for $0.99! I will say this tho...its not voice activation because I have the ipod Touch, the girl in the demo is NOT a confederate (meaning she's in on the trick),and last it has nothing to do with MOVEMENT. Trust me you will NEVER guess the secret...it its so slick and will take some practice! I tried it on my gf who is very skeptical and she can't figure it out! A+ app!!

I'm guessing: it's timing. Shaking starts timer. 4 options. 4 second wait before picking up the phone -> 1st option, 8 second wait ->second option and so on. Picking up stops going to the next option. And then fill the appropriate time with some conversation.
