Uk rules state that the white ball is not allowed to jump over any part of an object ball and it can be clearly seen that the first ball the white makes contact with( the object ball)the white is slightly off the cloth and therefore above part of the object ball, hence the shot is a foul.
Great shot though, and very tough for a ref to call but if you look close on the slo mo I think you can see what I'm saying.
@plcdude321 yer but if it's only a little off then i don't think that the ref would call it any way even if he did see it because he might put it down to the force of the impact when the ball was hit. but still, like you said, good shot.
@plcdude321 Okay, I think you're misunderstanding the rules. You're allowed to go off the bed of the cloth as long as you don't go over the ball as a result of it. Otherwise, a lot of times the break would be illegal because the ball would skid across the surface. It's perfectly legal to do that.

Now onto the shot, i am naturally lucky when it come to pool and have a reputation for doing stuff like this when no shot seems on, what u call a fluke we call a Drove hence the nickname Drover, what i was trying to do was trying to hit the red thin off the closest yellow onto the back cushion up onto the back of the middle yellow so it would deflect passed the yellow that was covering most of the bag, it didn't quite work out like that but it went in all the same

The white ball is in mid-air when it hits the red one making it bounce, it wouldn't have enough altitude to go over the yellow on the corner though so he throws it against another yellow to send it flying. Then its is only a matter of picturing the red ball's way after it hits the yellow. He failed though im sure that cushion wasnt on his plans.

The shadow cast from the jumping red is out from the cushion but the shadow cast from the yellow ball which subsequently hits the cushion near the corner is touching the cushion. Watch it a few times and you will see what i mean. The only way this is not staged is if a small chip of glass or a small lump of broken chalk on the cloth caused the jump. Conclusion...STAGED.
This is a very clever scam. There is a transparent ramp in which the red ball hits and pops over the yellow ball. Watch in slow motion at about 20 seconds. The red does not hit the cushion, it takes off like a harrier jump jet. Watch the other yellow ball which rolls up to the cushion just above the red, it just nips the base of the ramp and mysteriousy rolls off at an odd angle just before it hits the cushion. Congratulations to the designers of this trick...very good indeed!
I DO NOT understand the controversy behind this video after carefully analyzing it. the cue jumps off the felt, bounces, hits the red before the apex of its bounce (putting downward force which causes the red to also hop) the red hits the yellow above the apex, causing it to fly forward, it hits the rail, and it bounces it into the pocket. SURE, its luck. he probably just called a pocket to be safe because there was no safety he could think of, and just so happened to make it in. stop arguing.

@darksinthe no way, the red is hit pretty much straight in the face by the white and is sent straight towards a yellow near the top cushion, the red hits that, then flicks off another yellow as it's heading towards the object pocket, then magically jumps over the yellow which is sitting in the pocket, it looks good but it's staged, the cushion that it rolls along is blind and the quality is bad enough to put a piece of glass or something to make the ball hop like that....

@skiederpants It was broadcast live, which meant there was a 50 second delay, the people asking for full screen are waiting to view the live replay caused by this delay. Video quality is low at 256kbps as that is all the bandwidth we had to contend with at the Villa Marina in the Isle of Man. Look at the players reaction, very hard to 'stage' that as you claim. I am happy to send the original file to anyone that wants to watch the full 8 hours of live pool recorded that day

@skiederpants if the cue ball is even just a mm or two above the felt, it can cause the ball it hits to also leave the felt, and anything hit beyond that can add to it. Like cuesportv said, the quality is low. even if it were amazing quality you wouldnt be able to tell if the cue ball was above the felt upon contact with the object. and @mrjoecool53 I've played enough pool in my life to see stranger things than this, thinking its staged is idiotic.

@darksinthe yeh you can make the object ball and the cueball jump after making contact by elevating your cue...... however it would not happen delayed like it did in this video. if you look closely you cannot see if there is anything against the rail there, beside or in front of the yellow. i would bet good money and lay 10-1 odds that this was staged. if your so convinced let's bet something.
@mrjoecool53 I can honestly say that this was not staged, it was during a live broadcast and was during the British Open Blackball singles back in 2008. The video file itself is not very high quality so we have not been able to enhance it very well. Still to this day neither ourselves nor the player know what happened.

Video quality is low at 256kbps as that is all the bandwidth we had to contend with at the Villa Marina in the Isle of Man. Look at the players reaction, very hard to 'stage' that as you claim. I am happy to send the original file to anyone that wants to watch the full 8 hours of live pool recorded that day

@CueSportTV Hi, i would love to receive the full 8 hours of this days play. I feel i could learn a lot from watching these high level players. I have been playing for years and i am quite good but i am just getting used to world pool rules as i have just started playing premier league in Wessex. I must add...i think this shot is spectacular but a fluke indeed. Could a top proffesional possibly even attempt that shot deliberatly with a real chance of that happening? Thanks.

@skiederpants if the cue ball is even just a mm or two above the felt, it can cause the ball it hits to also leave the felt, and anything hit beyond that can add to it. Like cuesportv said, the quality is low. even if it were amazing quality you wouldnt be able to tell if the cue ball was above the felt upon contact with the object. and @mrjoecool53 I've played enough pool in my life to see stranger things than this, thinking its staged is idiotic.

@darksinthe look I couldn't give a shit if you invented the game and have played every minute of everyday for the last 100 years, I know this had to be staged, the jump happens way too late in the video for it to have anything to do with the white, the red was moving very fast towards the pocket and then for no reason makes an almost 90 degree turn upwards to hop over the yellow, this is physically impossible and for someone who claims to be such an authority on the subject, I'm surprised

@darksinthe yeh you can make the object ball and the cueball jump after making contact by elevating your cue...... however it would not happen delayed like it did in this video. if you look closely you cannot see if there is anything against the rail there, beside or in front of the yellow. i would bet good money and lay 10-1 odds that this was staged. if your so convinced let's bet something.

@mrjoecool53 I can honestly say that this was not staged, it was during a live broadcast and was during the British Open Blackball singles back in 2008. The video file itself is not very high quality so we have not been able to enhance it very well. Still to this day neither ourselves nor the player know what happened.

@CueSportTV well.......... I have been playing pool for quite a while, 13-14 years and I have seen some pretty crazy things happen on the table. I've seen balls jump up on the rail and roll into a pocket, seen balls go down in a pocket and come back out etc......... I've never seen anything like this.... not saying it's impossible but it would definetly bring new meaning to the phrase, " 1 in a million ". Just an unbeleivable shot if it happened unstaged and definetly not planned. "ShakenBake"
