I just watched the whole of the new movie; over all i am happy with it but find it a little over the top, the sound effects are unlike what I have grown up to, but I am all for the continued production of future releases; release em to the USA and I will buy em; keep it up!

@fraspas The Yamato looks like a boat because it is a battleship ,(the Yamato was a real battleship from Japanese history and was sunk in WW2.The Yamato was also the very first battleship to incorporate the bulbus bow.) and during the Gamalonn war all the Earths oceans dried up and they resurected the Yamato and transformed it into a spaceship in order to save the Earth.Watch Quest for Iscandar to see how it all originally began.
@zagnut36 No my friend they do not have it here in Canada or the U.S.A. It is available in Japan but it's not dubbed in English. The DVD is not compatible with our regions. Check CD Japan or Yesasia for pricing & availabilty. If you have a multiregion DVD player, you may be lucky.
@ohvist thanks for the explanation, but I wasn't really looking for one. In Japanese the ra, ri, ru, re, ro kana are often used to pronounce the English "l" sounds. So whoever translated it most likely spelled flagship the way it sounded in Japanese hence "fragship"

@ussiowa9 In the original Anime, the Yamato was the last Capital Ship the EDF had (Because she had technically be constructed after them & had advanced technology given by aliens). I also imagine Japanese Nationalism has something to do with it. The Yamato was the flagship of the Japanese fleet AND Japan was first united under the Yamato dynasty. It's just like how the Enterprise/Defiant is the best ship in Star Trek, or how the Rebels can cream the Imperials most of the time.

@melissa02jp Melissa try sites like Yesasia, CD-Japan, & DVDAsian. Monitor those sites from time to time you never know. So far I saw Region 2 & 3 versions. I saw one at CD-Japan website a week ago & I think it said it had Japanese subtitles, it didn't mention English but it's worth investigating. Contact those people. Type in Space Battleship Yamato in their search box. I believe we are in Region 1. Let me know how you made out. I think it was around $ 100 U.S.. Good luck!

I also asked them if there is going to be a North American release Region 1 or Region free in standard format. Right now they have a Blu-ray version Region free but is very pricy. A Yamato lift-off is not something to miss... I'd just LOVE to see a Federation starship try to follow suit. Only the Intrepid-class like VOYAGER comes anywhere near, and they can simply touch down on a planet surface... Ho-hum.

@Tim4706 Isn't a great feeling after all? I'm 50 yo & feel like a young kid again too. I've watched the entire three series/seasons when I lived in Europe & they were uncut. It was fantastic. They had to water down the adult content for the North American audiences as it was aired & targeted primarily for young kids. Censorship had a role to play in there. There are only a handful of wonderful animes out there that can muster the emotions & feelings like Starblazers. Do you agree? Take care bro.

You knwo, it wasnt until I was older that I realized how deep and passionate Starblazers/Yamato was and stll is. Even when they dulled the violence for us American kids you could still feel the depth of the action and the story. This was the height of Japanese Anime. their artwork wasnt just superior but their writing and character development was as well.

旧日本海軍の大和のサイズは全長263メートル全幅38メートルです。だからアニメ版のヤマトもそれと同じぐらいのサイズです。それに対してアニメ版の艦橋のサイズは物理的に矛盾しています。
また、コスモタイガーの全長は17メートル全幅8メートルですが、アニメ版のヤマトはそれを40機以上も積んで、さらにほかにも艦載機を積んでいます。これも物理的に矛盾しています。
実写版のヤマトの船内のスペースは合理的に考えると正しいサイズです。映画「男たちの大和」も参考になります。

子供は、アニメに出ているロボットと同じ物が欲しいのです。
「ゲッターロボのおもちゃは、アニメとちがって変形や合体が出来ないからつまらない。アニメに出ているロボットと同じように変形や合体が出来るおもちゃが欲しい」という子供たちの要望に応えて作られたアニメが「超電磁ロボ・コンバトラーＶ」です。これのおもちゃがよく売れたので、以後、おもちゃメーカーは「アニメをおもちゃにする」のではなく「おもちゃをアニメにする」ようになりました。
スーパー戦隊のロボットのおもちゃがよく売れる理由も、テレビと同じように変形や合体が出来るからです。

「マジンガーZ」（1972年）のロボットのおもちゃがよく売れたので、スポンサーであるおもちゃ会社のポピー（バンダイの子会社）は、「ロボットを3体に増やせば、3倍もうかるだろう」と考えて、「ゲッターロボ」（1974年）では主役のロボットを3体に増やしました。でも、この頃はまだおもちゃ会社がデザインにあまり関わっていなかったので、おもちゃを作るのが難しいデザインになってしまい、子供たちは不満でした。その不満を解消するため、「超電磁ロボ・コンバトラーV」（1976年）では、おもちゃ会社がデザインに深く関わり、「まず、おもちゃのロボットを作って、それをアニメに登場させる」というやり方を用いました。このやり方は、現在まで引き継がれています。

デザインに矛盾があると、おもちゃが売れません。おもちゃが売れないと、アニメが作れません。アニメが作れないと、それを楽しむことも出来ません。
小説や漫画とちがって、アニメを作るにはお金が必要です。そして、そのお金を出すのはスポンサーであるおもちゃ会社です。だから、おもちゃを作るのが難しいような矛盾のあるデザインには、おもちゃ会社からの許可が下りません。ただ、スポンサーがおもちゃ会社でない場合は、矛盾のあるデザインでも許可が下りることがあります。

@melissa02jp Melissa try sites like Yesasia, CD-Japan, & DVDAsian. Monitor those sites from time to time you never know. So far I saw Region 2 & 3 versions. I saw one at CD-Japan website a week ago & I think it said it had Japanese subtitles, it didn't mention English but it's worth investigating. Contact those people. Type in Space Battleship Yamato in their search box. I believe we are in Region 1. Let me know how you made out. I think it was around $ 100 U.S.. Good luck!

@Wildstar1960 Hi Melissa. I have contacted CDJapan via e-mail. I will keep you posted once they get back to me regarding if those DVDs are in English or not. I also asked them if there is going to be a North American release Region 1 or Region free in standard format. Right now they have a Blu-ray version Region free but is very pricy. The standard version Region 2 is sold out. I will let you know as soon as I get more details from them. I hope they get back to me. Take care.

@galloway6204 Buddy, it was recovered, rebuilt, repaired inside the Aquarius ice mass. Just like a damaged car in a autobody shop so to speak. The Yamato/Argo was restored to its splendor with technological advancements. God Bless it! Can you hear the fine high pitched turbine-like engine noise when the ship breaks through the ice? It gives me chills/goosebumps. I still love that 70's style disco/dogfight music. I just gave away my age now lol. Yamato Hasshin! Yamato Forever!

どちらに著作権…なんて話はどうでもよい事、かたや故人、かたや準故人…実写版が公開になるってんで一応観ましたけど…進歩って言葉は存在しないんでしょうねぇ…それに誰だ？ある日になんか歌わせたのわ？ささき氏に失礼でしょう
ちなみに実写版は今日観ました、とても楽しめますよ、準故人の名前はありません、あの手のラストは否定するでしょうからね、もちろんいなくて正解！今の視点で捉えられた構成です、映画ってのはああでなきゃね。

@Tim4706 Isn't a great feeling after all? I'm 50 yo & feel like a young kid again too. I've watched the entire three series/seasons when I lived in Europe & they were uncut. It was fantastic. They had to water down the adult content for the North American audiences as it was aired & targeted primarily for young kids. Censorship had a role to play in there. There are only a handful of wonderful animes out there that can muster the emotions & feelings like Starblazers. Do you agree? Take care bro.

You knwo, it wasnt until I was older that I realized how deep and passionate Starblazers/Yamato was and stll is. Even when they dulled the violence for us American kids you could still feel the depth of the action and the story. This was the height of Japanese Anime. their artwork wasnt just superior but their writing and character development was as well.

Also thanks to youtube I finally got to see this movie but it had no subtitles and I do not speak Japanese but I watched it anyways and I enjoyed it very much. It is very rare to witness anime masterpieces/legends/icons of this magnitude. Starblazers/Yamato will be forever immortalized in our hearts, minds and souls, for there is nothing else of its genre that can compare. But this is an opinion coming from a die-hard fan.
