It just wouldn’t be Australia without killer ants.its sting ranks 4.0 plus on the Schmidt Sting Pain index making it the most painful sting on Earth.
Got bit on my foot today in Tasmania visiting rellies in the front yard on a lawn.,. Severe pain for ten minutes and a red mark and tenderness all day. Glad I'm not allergic. They are EVERYWHERE here. Nerver took them seriously before. Now I'm paranoid!!!! Really nasty little buggers.I had three opn my feet and wiped off the other two before they stung me.
A beekeeper suit is suppose to keep out bees not ants bees are at least 2 times the size of these little devils so the jack jumpers can find a small opening and get in which bees can't do because their too big
if the world was invaded by these, excape plan: space ship to go to the moon, 4 thousand rockets (to shoot at earth from the moon), beef jerky (if i get hungry).
@NoCutCard if you get bitten enough you could be a lucky one and develope an imunity, like i have. they're everywhere, so you cant really avoid em lol
dam i love nature, ive been watching this stuff since i was 5 and i never knew of this ant. imagine that, one of the smallest dwarfs everything else danger wise
I got bitten as a youngster by *one* bullant and went into anaphylactic shock.
When I was 15 I nearly plonked my bare ass onto a convenient mound on the ground, not knowing it was a jack jumper nest. If I hadn't serendipitously looked down at the last minute and seen them, I don't think I would have survived. My closest call with death ever!
The ants in my country (Denmark) can only lift small sand corns, this ant just walks around with small rocks, and with an attitude that says 'Come close - I'll fuck you up'.
I am not been biased but Australia is the most amazing country, the mix between prehistoric an modern land an the most lethal creatures an animals living with the people is epic
Huh. Had no idea they were deadly. Me and my friends always ate lunch near a nest of the tiny buggers in high school. They were on a cliff type of thing and since they never climbed up, we were fine.
Though considering we were young, we often threw pebbles or poked their nest with a stick.
I live with these nasty and highly aggressive ants everyday when I venture out to my backyard and as the film suggests they are intensely aggressive, territorial and pack a highly nasty bite that can last for days. Thankfully I'm not allergic to them, but still treat there presence very seriously
These and European wasps are my least favorite insects
i can't seem to understand how these ant's are so deadly, i grew up in the astralian bush an have been beatin many times by these ant's an not once have i had to rush to hospital
i can't seem to understand how these ant's are so deadly, i grew up in the astralian bush an have been beatin many times by these ant's an not once have i had to rush to hospital
@MrLroy22 you would only have been bitten if you live in tassie and I also have been bitten but if you are not allergic to them its just a bit like a ciggie burn.....
Oh shit haha - I started an ant colony with these critters, and I guess now I'm glad I've always been overly cautious of being bitten/stung :O I'm gonna have to triple the secuity on the ant tank now - I mean, seriously triple the security... I'm now getting quite worried as the ant tank/nest is next to my bed 8| f**k me ,
I wish I could see these things vs army ants. that would be the most spectacular ant battle ive ever seen although my money goes to the army ants who fight like miniature demons
This is why I don't like australia, you get owned by everything! Insects, spiders, snakes crocs, jellyfish, octopus, sharks. I went there for a holiday and couldn't lie on my mates back lawn.
When i was four years old I sat on a nest of these guys, and got bitten all over my arms and legs, lucky for me i was not allergic so nothing too bad happened to me. This film does not show how fast these ants actually move, it would have to be the fastest ant (for its size) i have ever seen. There were also ants called "itchmen" which were HUGE, size of an itch if not longer. They weren't as bad as the fast jack jumpers (who could actually jump on you from the ground)
excellent!!! really well made and oooh so true, was stung last summer, full on anaphalactic shock, heart 160bpm, blood pressure 70 over something, 2 ambulances, lucky for good neighbours as was home alone, am currently doing the immunisation program and its real fun....NOT!!, ,, check out "jack jumpers getting angry" for something a lot more amatuerish!!
hey cool, jackjumpers are famous! I live in Hobart, and it's kinda weird that this doco isn't exaggerated like most deadly animal shows Australia gets. It doesn't mention how stupid they are though, seriously they will chase you down (slowly) and try and bite a person a million times their size, and their tough too >:(..
Ha ha ha ha! Well no. The smallest of animals almost always almost have poison or an other defense. Like us, we make special wepeon's. We need to know that we are not the only smart, but the are very, very deadly. Like one bit of the Black Widow spider can be deadly within seven days. The BWS ( Brazilian Wandering Spider ) is the deadliest spider on Earth. One dry bit can kill you within 20 minutes.
ive got around 2 nests of these bastards out back (but they aren't jumpers) im pretty sure they are just normals ones because i live in victoria not tassie. i got stung on the tip of my thumb and it hurt like a ************** and a **** and *******!!!!!!
@beardeddragon95 I am interested in owning these ants, would you allow me to pay you for a captured queen?
You would capture her during their "swarming" period, when lone newly mated queens are walking around. If you where able to capture one during that time, I would gladly pay you for sending her to me. :) If so, PM me.
I was unaware there were Ant Species That Sting. I suppose i shouldn't be surprised though. They are after all Close Relatives of the wasps and other Colony insects.
