It is not know how long it takes for a clam to reach maturity. Unlike many invertebrates, giant clams must reach a large size before they can produce gametes. Depending on species this could be anywhere from twenty to fifty years.
I heard the shells on these things of a fully grown one can fetch $1,200. I don't know about you guys, but I think it looks better alive than as a chair in someones livingroom.
