Yes, there are things you won't like in the military, but hiding who you are shouldn't be one. Okay a lot of people don't understand what "don't ask, don't tell" does. Don't ask, don't tell protects the gay people in the Military, NOT the straight people. There are a lot of lets call them "rednecks" in the military if they found out someone was gay, they would hurt him or even kill them. But as long as they don't know, that person is safe.

@leahywi Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding was that the overturning of this policy gives gay men and women the oppurtunity to serve in the miliary while being openly gay. There is no law that says they have to come out if they don't want to, especially if they think it will endanger them in any way. And from what I've heard from any friends I have in the military, a lot of people know who is gay and who is not anyway.

You dont get a private life.You need to see the real picture.

It's also no secret that soldiers do eventually get to go home, they do get periods of LEAVE. I guess that is understandable. However, I can only reiterate that other miltaries already allow openly gay soldiers to serve, and they have no issues with sexual harassment or fraternization. Still, with that said, we've argued long enough. Thanks for your understanding of what the bigger issue is regarding DADT, your concerns are also understandable. All in all, something has to be done to support EVERY soldier. It take a special kind of human being to be in the military, gay or straight.

There are already 25 militaries that allow openly gay men and women to serve in their ranks. None of them have had any problems. Over 15,000 gay soldiers, men & women, have been discharged due to this policy for being gay plain and simple. Many of them where highly specialized linguist or pilots.
