You're wrong about elixirs. Think about it this way, you're at disadvantage, and you have a feeling you will be zoned by a better champion at mid. You don't have enough money for items, but you have a spare 250 gold after a ward and pot or two. You can get the advantage by buying the red or blue elixir, 'cause now you can actually fight that annoying leblanc on mid. 250 gold is nothing if it lets you farm triple that money the time it's active.

@MrFriuX I think he meant stuff like Mejai's Soulstealer or Sword of the Occult, which gives you bonuses for champ kills and assists. They're not as useful as things with static bonuses or ones that can't be lost (Tear, Warmog's, etc.) because if you die even once, you lose a ton of power from those items, hurting you a lot more than usual. And let's face it, you're pretty much going to die eventually in most games you play.

gold for 10 is not worth it. Counting the cost buying the item, the net gold you get is not really that much. The worst thing is, you sacrifice other core items just to get a little in late game. the only champions that need those are supports.

@kopk888 well u sell for about half the original buy, the gold is actually pretty decent if you dont get it too late and if it is a slower game. plus the bonuses are very nice on most of them, giving a good amount for what they are worth and not taking up too much space. Philo stone imo is one of the best early game items, especially on low mana/mana hungry tanks (amumu, leona, chogath, etc.). They used to be op, before the nerfs to stats and stacking rules

So if you get a brutalizer and a last whisper and the enemy has a 100 armor, the +15 armor pen from brutalizer modifies the armor to 85 and the last whisper reduces that number by 40 percent, so the remnant of armor on the enemy is 85-34=51.

I believe it used to be the other way around and that made it more easily possible to have negative armor in some situations (which dealt extra damage). Armor can't go lower than 0 now tho,

It uses both, and % armor pen is calcualted AFTER flat armor pen. Example: 20 armor pen and 40% armor pen on a champion with 100 armor gives you the final armor (100-20)x0.6.

It uses both, but in a specific way. First you apply armor pen, then % penetration. I'll give you an example. Assume you have 25 armor penetration, 10% armor penetration and that you are attacking a 100 armor enemy.

First you remove 25 armor due to your penetration. This leaves your enemy with 75 armor.

Now, to those 75 armor remaining, you apply your 10% armor penetration. 10% of 75 is 7.5, rounding it to 8 so now your enemy has 67 armor.

Getting Frozen Heart+Randuins on Malphite is quite fun - seeing lategame superfarmed enemy carry with 0.3 attack speed :)

@pecololek No, he didn't. However, you have to remember that the items themselves DO have stats that help you in the meantime. Philo's regen is VERY nice, and HoG's health can really give you a bit of tankiness that a support would need. You don't sell them until you have like 4/6 or 5/6 items to go anyway, which generally doesn't happen till 40min+. They're worth it IMO, but think twice before getting them on a carry.

However doran's shield's usefulness falls off way too quickly for it to be a good item. Doran's are really better on champs that have really squishy early game to help them have a stronger and longer lane presence. GP5 though is good till last items

The soulstealer is horrible on Karthus.. Karthus is an AP carry you want to build Rylai's and Rod of ages (to be tanky), just rush in, do as much dmg as possible and suicide, then pop ult.. Thats pretty much what he does in team fights - meaning he'll die a lot..

Overall very good advice, the thing i kind of missed, was that there was no real discussion on "starting items".. Like differences between boots+3, cloth+5, dorans and so on.. Was a little but not too much..

You can stack gold per 5 items as long as they're not the same.
