  • My soul cry every time I listen to this.... Magnifico

  • he's my hero.

  • Almost made me cry....ALMOST!!!

  • I'm going to his bithday concert at the Royal Festival Hall on April 14th!

  • i have to play a trumpet arrangement of this and i hope to get it to sound this beautiful!

  • Elegant, profound...painfully beautiful...

  • Linda música! :-)

  • pure perfection...

  • True, cello does have that deep and hollow resonance with that mellifluent tone.

  • It should be made mandatory to hear this every morning in halls of the pentagon and the west wing of the white house.

    rock on JSB!!

  • Does anyone seriously believe that this shit can begin to compare to Lada Gaga

    or 50 Cent!

  • @tonywsmith2 different genres of music and different emotions, impossible to contrast without bias.

  • I'm learning to play this on viola (self teaching myself the piece), sure it's not a cello like this piece was made for, but viola has the same deep, natural sound a cello has. I hope when I play this piece, it will keep all the magnificence that performance creates. Sorry for bad grammar, English is my second language. :)

  • No lugubrious glissandos. Not a cello fan, but this is clean and lovely.

  • It's very romantic.

  • this is so beautiful...

  • im going to see julian lloyd webber in concert hopefully next week. iv been playing the cello for 7 years but iv never really seen a proffesional. Cant wait :)

  • This is my concept of peace.

  • @Mariarel8 this is my concept of god

  • I like this piece, but what I don't like is seeing the stupid look on that woman's face in the beginning & the characters on the screen in the end.

  • beautiful :)

  • This just fills me with unexplainable happiness

  • sehr schön. erinnert mich an eine schöne Frau.

  • i play piano, and would love to play this with another cellist

  • @iluvKH4eva where do you live? I am a cellist... but probably we are very far.

  • BRAVO !!

  • Oh! So beautiful! I am a cello player, and I would love to play this with two celli, I have a recording of it played this way. Stunning. I think the cello is so soulful to listen to, and also to play. It's a gift...

  • My favourite version!

  • Realmente Hermoso :D

  • Hermoso :D

  • absolutely stunning!

  • beautiful! ^.^

  • Magnificent!

  • The combination of a stradivarius cello and a brillint passionate musician...God's finest gift.

  • simply mesmerizing.

  • Amazing!

  • Beautiful!

  • divine,,

  • Cello blows violin out of the water on Air... beautiful..

  • @BrocoliSuportr I'm a violinists myself... but I gotta say... you got that right!

  • @BrocoliSuportr i have been listening to this song by various musicians for years. this is by far the best rendition i have heard.

  • breathtaking....

  • omg, this stradivarius sounds awesome!

  • is this piece on CD somewhere?

  • now THAT is how you play a cello....!!

  • Absolument sublime. moi même cellist amateur, je découvre Julian et suis très touché par son jeu sur ce merveilleux instrument. Aimerais l'écouter en concert.

  • Omg! Amazing!

  • Exquisite!

  • sublime! :)

  • Touch... feel...doesn't get better than this... I am overwhelmed...

  • The cello is the shit for air! fantastic..

  • so tender, exquisitely done.

  • He really knows how to do simple. The grace and beauty just comes forward.

  • ¡Qué belleza! Sin palabras, super hermoso, magnífica interpretación...

  • Julian Lloyd Webber demands so much from his accompaniest too. He looks so much further than his own performance. As an arranger he is fabulous

  • I've always liked 'Air on the G string' no matter what instrument it is played on as I think it is just a wonderful piece of music. I would have to say though that my preference is for the cello because it sounds simply divine - it's mellow, deep, hauntingly sad and melancholic - just beautiful.

  • @LaFarfalla246

The Cello (Violoncello meaning large small violin) Is said to be the closest relative as an instrument to the human being, it must be that it has a range of notes closest to the human singing range, but to me its more than that, I have related so well with the instrument and I have progressed much, because my hearts song is the cello, and it is my favorite instrument by far, it is the most beautiful sounding as to anyone who hears this piece is at peace.

  • AWESOME!

  • This is a master ! Bravo !

  • I have been trying to find the sheet for this song for a while. Any ideas where to find it?

  • I've always thought Jules is kinda horny...I think he'd know how to sort a girl out....mmmn..............

  • The lady at the beginning is freaking creepy looking. Awesome song though.

  • too bad there's no hd on this one, the sound quality does not make justice to Julian W. skill

  • ...so sweet ..

    grooooooooooveeeeeeeeeeee...

  • wow... that's right... Bach would be proud...

    so beautiful!

  • Bach would be proud!

  • Whoa, Air on the G String played on the cello.

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • Oh, he is a master on this piece....great vibrato!

  • I love this song. It's so relaxing and wonderful to listen to.

  • I'd love to learn Cello, but the lessons and instrument cost an arm and a leg.

  • it would be worthwhile though...,such a beautiful piece....!

  • You can always rent a cello and try it for a month or two to see how you like it. You can also learn from a book or the internet... the joy of being able to play the cello is worth every penny.

  • Beautifully played!!!

  • I can play this song on the piano! <3 Almost, anyways.

  • I'll never play the cello as well as him, but I'll sure try as hard as I can . ♥

  • he plays this so well..!

  • I love this piece!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • isn't that sheet music? learn treble clef..

  • so talented i could listen to him play all day

  • That Bach guy sure could write couldn't he

  • Beautiful, sublime, the best move ever composed

  • Very flawless and natural performance. Julian, his brother Andrew and their father have all given us beautiful music for some time.

  • :-O

    FLAWLESS, completely!!

  • This musician is a poet of the instrument!

  • i so agree with u!!

  • One of the gretest performers ever of Bach's cello music!!!

  • Euphoria ;)

  • This is life

  • I feel good !

I Im on another planet .....

  • What a gift !

  • Beautifully done. It's nice and simple too, a lot of the best music is - so simple, yet we still would never come up with it ourselves. Glad it's referred to as Air on 'the' G String too! Hate it when people say Air on 'a' G string - it's THE G string of the violin lol. But anyway, that's a menial matter compared to the intense beauty...

  • An inspiration to cellists everywhere

  • OMG this is beautiful! :'(

  • Beautiful. Gave me a lump in my throat

  • Julian doing what he does best BUT, who is the pianist?!

  • Rebecca Woolcock.

  • Gosh! The Webbers are maestros in music.

  • beautiful...

  • LLoyd Weber,le sigo y me parece un genio.

  • So seamless and beautiful. Julian makes the instrument sing. Thank you for posting this.

  • That's not the G string. What the fudge? (Pretty all the same. :) Gotta love the cello.)

  • ??? I'm not sure what you're talking about because I don't play cello...but I do know that this song is in fact Bach's Air on a G String.

  • To mention it for the 1000th time beneath that video:

The name "Air on the G string" derives from a arrangement done by the violinist August Wilhelm. He rewrote the air from bachs 3rd orchestra suite to be played on the G-string of a violin(!) only and this name became widly accepted

  • thanks for reminding us the man behind the transcription

  • The way Julian plays is nothing less than perfection..

  • I am playing this piece on Violin.

I've just had a new Viola and start to play on it.

Julian makes me consider spending a fortune on a cello, for my car is only $500, one and half the same cost as my viola.

Love you Julian. I listen to your cello always.

  • Aire en la cuerda de Sol...estupendo Julian Lloyd Webber...estupendo el video. GRACIAS por compartirlo. BENDICIONES.

  • Beautiful..

what key is this piece in?

  • D i think, im probably wrong tho xD

  • Correct, D major. (Bach wrote it in D major).

  • It depends on the version. One of the versions I have has it written in A Major, 4/4, first note beginning on a C#, and another is written in C Major, 8/8, first note beginning on an E natural. It really depends on who arranged it. Bach may have written it originally in D Major, but it really has changed a lot over the years.

  • FYI

The original piece is part of Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068, written for his patron Prince Leopold of Anhalt sometime between the years 1717 and 1723.

The title comes from violinist Wilhelmj's late 19th century arrangement of the piece for violin and piano. By transposing the key of the piece from its original D major to C major and transposing the melody down an octave, Wilhelmj was able to play the piece on only one string of his violin, the G string.

  • It is Re.

I do not like to call it D or 2, digitalizing musics.

  • If you hear this Son remember its for you

  • This tune is so very beautiful and Bach was greatly gifted to write music as enchanting as this. If they play this in heaven I hope I'm there to hear it.I wish well to you all.

  • For me just the right amount of Glissando ...soleful ...perfect

  • theres only another version i like apart from this one is for the trombone.

It meant to the on the G string people.. G string on a cello not violin

but a trombone got a melow and matching range with the cello so its perfect

  • Man....

i've gotta learn this one on my Triangle.

  • Maravilhoso!!! Maravilhoso!!! Maravilhoso!!! Maravilhoso!!! Maravilhoso!!! Maravilhoso!!! Maravilhoso!!! Maravilhoso!!! Maravilhoso!!! Maravilhoso!!!

  • Classic Music is Divine especially with this piece

if you want to see to me, click on riccardino23

  • Amazing, magic, haunting.

Curious thing is the fact that songs written in the key of D major can have such a relaxing and powerful effect.

I listened to this song in the key of C major, and didn't like it. I loses all of it's magic.

    Curious.

  • i read some wher that in the Baroque period, D major was regarded as "the key of glory", maybe thats why it can have such an effect

  • i really want this as an mp3....

  • Maravilhoso!!!

  • WONDERFUL,WONDERFULL,

  • finalmente, i have found that song that has haunted me for so long! thank you so much for posting this up

  • I swear, when this was over, I noticed I was drooling because I wasn't fully aware what I was doing due to the music xD

    Awesome job :D

  • Too much glissando but very beautiful. He plays flawlessly. Bach is truly one of the best composers during his time and probably always will be.

  • He's The Best!!!! I Love It :) Perfect :)

  • beautiful, Just beautiful! it was played perfectly!

  • Very Nice...I would only say I'd like it better with the vibrato slowed a little and less of it. I like extremely subtle vibrato on Bach. Just a minor quibble.

  • possibly the greatest song ever written and a great performance of it

  • beautiful! is he Andrew Lloyd Webber's son?

  • brother I believe

  • Wikipedia says they are brothers.

  • This is beautifull.PoZdrO da WeRoNiKi ;]

  • bravissimo!

  • Beautiful!

  • It's so good, it's almost funny 0.0

That's all I can really say, it's so awesome, it's hard to even describe.

  • Precioso!

  • I also am a cello player, and love the work of Julian lloyd Webber. But guys,he didnt play it on the G string, he played it on A and D... But I agree that this is the real music! =D

  • absolutely enchantingly beautiful...i have goosebumps....

  • bellissimo

  • this is real music ... people these days think it's boring and only grandpa listens this ... but if you listen carefully ... every instrument that takes part at a song ... you can feel what the composer was feeling in those moments

  • Finally a metal fan that understands classical music! *hugs*

  • beautyfull

  • jajaajjajajajajajaja

un cello k no hace el continuo en air de bach

    genial xd

    somos increibles los cellos

    y suena hermoso = XD

  • molto bravo!

  • beautiful

  • His sound is perfect, his interpretation is perfect, his technique is perfect...

    BRRRAVO!!!!!

    ankhsnammon

  • GREAT...................

  • THis guy's intonation was awesome and he made me feel so incredibly relaxed...Kudos.

  • Being a cello player myself, I'd like to know where to get a version of this particular version of Air. If anyone knows a website, please post a comment with the link in it. Thanks :)

  • awesome !!

  • how I wish I can produce nice music like him.. I plays the cello too.. I still have much more to learn..

  • i think the piano was off tuningwise

  • One thing I look for in playing is intonation. On something this slow, if you can't nail the pitch, you need to sell your axe on eBay and flip burgers. This guy nailed it. I'm going to check out more of his stuff!

  • a song so beautiful it makes me day dream about a world without any war anywhere and where people live peacefully with each other...sigh...

  • keep on dreaming. ironically if it had not been kings, priests, emperors and that kind of violent people who make our world a shithole who payed people like Bach to compose for them we wouldnt have this "peaceful" music

  • Bach composed this music for the world, not for the tyrants.

  • This truly is perfection. The angels in heaven must feel a pinch of jelousy at this master-piece. Makes me feel closer to God and Jesus every time I hear this. I thank God above for giving is mere mortals such talent.

  • The only one perfect thing on this planet,is J.S.Bach's music

  • excelent xD

    saludooos =] ..

  • Why is it called "Air on G String" if hardly any, if any, of it is played on the G string?

  • The title comes from violinist August Wilhelmj's late 19th century arrangement of the piece for violin and piano. By transposing the key of the piece from its original D major to C major, Wilhelmj was able to play the piece on only one string of his violin, the G string.

  • Thanks. But do you know why the title of the piece was changed after the death of the composer, Bach? Just because an arrangement was made for the violin, I don't think the title of the piece, especially the original arrangement for cello, should've been changed. At least not without Bach's consent.

  • Freakin' awesome. His sound is amazing.

  • This sound so beautiful!!
