I went to that same dive spot on the IKA TAGANE II with Cousteau's crew. I remember seeing that same Vasua clam shell! it was slightly bigger of course! I went in October 2009.
Sweet! Just got back from Savusavu a couple weeks ago. That was a great spot, but we just snorkeled on the way back from a "discover scuba" adventure further out by the lighthouse.
Amazing amount of fish there. We continued on to Australia after Fiji and also snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, and I think this spot had more fish than the Reef did (although the coral and especially giant clams were better on the Reef).
Really nice. I went snorkeling there in 2005 when we were staying at Daku Resort down the street. Great spot! It's maybe 1/2 km from Cousteau and about 100 meters out and marked modestly by a floating bleach bottle anchored to the bottom. I brought a half loaf of bread from the Hot Bread Store and almost got hickied to death by those fish.
Hickied to death is correct! That's my wife near the end of the video, snorkeling and feeding the fish with bread. They ripped the bag out of her hands and it turned into a feeding frenzy. Too funny! It feels weird to have those fish nibbling your arms, but they are harmless.
