  • Actives are great, but the passive speakers with an amp is the way to go. If you know what your amp can handle, there is no worries on have the amp go out on you. Tell me how to connect my passive subs and tell me what amp I need!!

  • Is a 3 way speaker good for Hip-Hop?

  • wow i thought your voice was going to be deep thumbs up

  • CV's "used" to be good... I haven't used or heard any of the newer ones, so can't really comment on those.

  • i use cerwin vega speakers what is your opinion on cv

  • dude, next time use pictures or show your own set up while filming.

  • @honDaggerlee

Not a bad idea, but I just use a webcam to do them for now, so it'd be a bit tricky. There less instructional though, and more just informational.

  • @honDaggerlee

These are tutorials, not demos. There's a big difference. They are informational, not demonstrational.

  • Just because you buy a dj in the box set up DOES NOT MAKE YOU A D.J

  • @comoestaelyay

I agree, but what does that have to do with anything discussed in this tutorial?

  • passive=better ... if you blow a speaker you loose your amp and speaker, then nothing works... but i guess its all preference :/

  • @mycurse67

Yes, but if you only have one amp in that case, you're screwed... No sound.

You're better off losing an entire speaker than all of the sound altogether, unless you're running multiple amps.

  • @mycurse67

If you blow your amp with passive speakers, and have no other amp, you're more screwed, than losing one active speaker.

  • Can you recommend a good sub to go with my Yamaha BR12 tops? Would my set up look better with 2 subs or is only 1 sub OK? How much should I expect to pay? THNKS

  • @fueledbymusic3

Yep, how about a Mackie SWA 1501?

  • @djphunknasty Oh yes. I discovered that American Audio makes a sub that COPIES this Mackie. Its a PXW 15P & PXW 18p. ARE they any good??? I have heard good reviews about these, What do you think?

  • @fueledbymusic3

Can't say I've heard anything about those. American Audio though in general, is pretty low-end. I doubt they'd be able to compete with Mackie

  • well i am a not per say a starter but i have 2 12" DAP mc-12 and 2 15" DAP mc-15 with out the horn i bought those speakers with out drivers and the horns wure brooken so i use them as sub my amps are a american audio vlp600 for my 12" top and a palladium 900 for my subs a behringer EQ and Alesis EQ i use xlr from my mixer case to my Amp case and from input from the case to my EQ i use JACK plugs and also from EQ to x-over and from X-over to amps i use XLR

  • If you have a mixer with only rca outputs for the master and you buy powered monitors can or do they make cables with rca on one end and xlr or 1/4 phono jacks on the other??

  • Yep they sure do, however, since RCA's are unbalanced, you're merely changing the gender of the cable, so even though yes it will work fine for you, keep in mind that the signal coming through is still unbalanced. This should be "ok" as long as you're not running them a great distance.

  • well i dont really dj but i like the idea i have a numark pro tt2 turntable and a gemini mixer and i was wondering in order to connect a roland sp-404sx to my simple set up i dont really need a amp cause i just sample records in to the sp and make hip hop beats?

  • aight dude, i have been looking for speakers now for over a month, and im deciding on starting with the JBL JRX125 what do u think?

  • i jus baught a mixer but im havin some trouble getting the speakers to it, i got a nu mark mixer and i got Rokit 8 speakers, im wonderin if those components are even compatible?

  • Dude, mixers are never connected straight to the speakers, unless they are active speakers. If they are passive, you'll need an amp first.

If those are active (powered) speakers, then you just need the right cables.

  • what do you think about the QSC PLX1202? my friend wants to sell it to me 4 $250.

  • Hey man i love dis video i watched it like 10 times... i got sum questions... i had marathon equipment speakers n amp both marathon n i sold dem now i wanna buy oder amp but idk wich 1 to buy. i was thinking of buying a peavey, crest audio or behringer do u think deir good... i do like 4 parties per month n its a friends house or my house so wat do u think will be gud 4 me?

  • Crest is good... Not too sure about Peavey or Behringer...

I would go with a Crown or QSC if you can afford it, or Crest or Carvin third.

  • ok tanx man.

  • alsom vid, and for future refrences , u can get ur bass speaker from 8 - 18"

  • yea i'm going to buy amps but there is no other connection in the controller for another wire to connect becuase im going to use the amp and the speaker and the controller and my computer to dj

  • i have passive speakers and i have a dj controller but i can hook my speakers up to my contoller and i need help with it so write back, thanks

  • Of course you can't. Passive speakers require an amplifier for power. You won't get any sound out of them without one. The controller hooks up to the amp which hooks up to the passive speakers. You can't hook up a controller directly to a non powered speaker. Even if you could you'd get no sound out of it anyway.

  • Hey man love the tutorials learning a lot of stuff. what are your opinions on the JBL EON10G2?

  • You forgot to mention Yamaha, their speakers are perhaps the best out of all of them, except for maybe Mackie.

  • what about the KLH RAVE! series?

  • Those are not DJ speakers, they are for Home Theater. They are are not loud enough or rugged enough for DJ purposes. Get some real speakers.

  • I never bought them so I don't own any KLH rave speakers.

  • You're right Yamaha's good, but Mackie definitely trumps them... But... you'll pay for it...

  • what about American Audio for amps

    are they good

  • crown xls series 402 is what i was working with last year bought it new i beat the shit out of it all summer ran it for over 8 hours at our family picnic full power. this year im ready to do it again. i hope it holds!!!

  • Ahhh Nice! Yeah it should, Crown amps are the shit :) I used to love Crest amps too, but not sure if they even make those anymore.

  • i think im a get a road ready i hate the carpeted because they look ugly i think ill either get the road ready or the skb possibly the road ready though thanks for the help i appreciate it

  • thats what im saying after i got money to buy my gear and a asshole comes messing with my shit im going wreckless like you said i rather get my ass kicked i try to carry some kind of protection also do you think skb cases are good or odyssey or road cases are better because it protects it more

  • I love Road Ready, they are the shit.

SKB's are ok, but overpriced. Odyssey's are ok too, as long as you get the ATA style, try to stay away from carpeted. They weigh more and protect less.

  • i think im not getting subs until later cuz i live in new york i dont use trailers and stuff where you can store your equipment and i live in an apartment 4th floor so its a mission another question have there ever been fights where you been djing and how do you handle it

  • Of course, this can happen especially in bars. I would make sure you are buddies with the bouncers and make sure they are on the ball with ejecting people who start shit. As far as a private gig, you are on your own, unless the venue you are playing at has some form of security. Always guard your gear, not only from theft, but from damage by way of liquids like beer, water, falling off the table, etc.. I think at times I'd much rather get my ass kicked protecting the gear, than worry about me

  • if the speakers or active and i dont need an amp how many speakers could i connect like whats the maximum

  • oh and one more question about active speakers since they have amplifier built in was the most amount of speakers i could connect i have a numark cdn88 and a denon dnx500 and would you recommend a subwoofer and how much can i connect to a amplifier i think its 2 sorry for so much questions

  • The sub depends on what types of gigs you're doing, how many people, and how much extra "whoomph" you'll need. Keep in mind they weigh a friggin ton, so you may not like carrying it everywhere if its not entirely necessary for the venue you are playing at. With active speakers, you can usually chain them together, so you theoretically could chain as many as you liked together. Most DJ's use 2, but I've seen some do 4, and they bridge them all mono.

  • there selling me the pr 15 active for only 200both slightly used thats why i was asking you if you suggest buying it and do you recommend a qsc rmx 1459 or a crown xls series like 402 or 602

  • Anything Crown or QSC is a good amp, just make sure the wattage matches the speakers you plan to use, and also find one in your price range of course.

  • hey dj phunk nasty do you think the peavey pr15 active speakers are good get back at me thanks

  • Those are ok, but for the money, you may wanna try the Yamaha S115PA's or a comparable JBL model.

If you have a higher budget, the Mackie SRM 450's are the shiznit, and the V2 ones weigh around 20 lbs less than their predecessors.

  • what do u thing about Peavey PV-215 speakers?

    One Technical HiFi PP3000

  • Peavey's are "OK" in my book but for the money you may wanna try the Yamaha S115PA's... See the above post I replied to djfatz

  • that was VERY informative, thanks helped a lot!!

  • Thanks a lot, good info

  • Anyone used the Numark M80 powered speakers? Are they crap or what?

  • In my opinion, ANYTHING Numark is pretty much crap these days... Go for the new Mackie SRM450 V2's. My buddy got a pair, they are lightweight as hell, and kick so hard, you don't even need a sub with them. He did a school dance with those, and didn't even use or need a subwoofer. Very bass heavy and lightweight, can't go wrong with that combo.

  • Na, I Would say American Audio PXI Powered just for a mobile Dj

  • your absolutly correct good work

  • Steffvandrin, Ahhh very good point!! I shall make one, thanks for the tip!

  • WHAT HAPPENED 2 YORKVILLE SOUND

  • thanks for all the help and im now getting the Mackie SRM450. you have been great helping with your videos. great work.

  • Droopi, the cheapness and the loudness have absolutely nothing to do with each other and doesn't make much sense. Pricewise in DJ equipment you generally get what you pay for. If you want crap, buy Gemini, but if you want quality, get Technics, Pioneer, or Denon. Ask any Pro DJ who's been doing this for years, and 90% of them will agree with me here.

  • ok thanks i just wanted an opinion from someone that has experience with djing. looks like im getting the djm3000! thanks for the response. i just want the gemini cuz there cheap and since i have a newborn i cant play music too loud anyway since im just beginning. i will get some better once later on.

  • Droopi also,

Gemini is the bottom feeder of the business and haven't made anything of real quality in years. I'm not a spokesman for Pioneer or Denon, just speaking the truth. The price and the loudness have nothing to do with each other, Volume is volume and can be controlled.

  • Gemini products are for novice ameaturs not professionals, they are crap.

  • grafxnrg, I agree 100%

  • droopi, the DJM 3000 isnt a bad mixer at all, but if you watched the videos, you'd know I don't recommend anything Gemini at all, UNLESS you absolutely can't afford anything else. Even still, you're better off finding a second hand Pioneer or Denon on Ebay than buying a Gemini new. Use Gemini as a last resort, you'll thank me for it later.

  • I agree Gemini is crap. I started out with Gemini and it was a mistake.

I don't recommend JBL products either as I have a PB-12 powered sub for the home and the amp circit blew after 3 years of use. I now run the speaker with a home amp and a BBE Maxx3. I will not buy a JBL product ever again.

  • Jungle, I think your JBL incident is a rare one, and the first one I've heard. I've had nothing but good experiences with JBL.

  • JBL makes speakers NOT amps, so the powered speakers have parts from 3rd party companies. Along with the built in crossover. Plus, home theater speakers differ from professional DJ speakers.

  • You should make a video about headphones. That is very important part of dj equipement. Regards

  • im not sure about this but im just starting. i havnt ordered anything yet but will start to buy the cdj's and mixer and speakers in about 2 weeks. i am wondering if u recommend the GEMINI GT-1002 10" 2-Way 300W Trapezoid Speaker System

    Gemini GT-1002 10 2 Way Trapezoid Loudspeaker - 300 Watt, Full Grill 10" Woofer

since im starting out as a bedroom dj. i am going to use (if you replyed to the mixer video tutorial) the djm 3000.

  • Thanks, I was just looking for that info...
