For high gain in this amp plug into the number one input - it is louder - and make sure there is a GOOD 12ax7 tube in position in position one and two.
Ever have any issues with low output/volume with this amp? mine only plays quietly now with a strange distorted tone even on clean channel. checked its not speakers or power/preamp tubes. .. i dont know whats wrong with the darned thing
@OriginalSteveneddy Hey got my Deville fixed recently it was a blown resistor (r57) apparently these are prone to malfunction as Fender used extra cheap resistors often
@FletcherHabit - Oh yeah - common problem with the Deluxe and Deville - I fix amps for a living and I would change R57 and R58 and make them 1 watt resistors, and R61 and R62, making them 2 watt resistors. Also have all of the solder joints on the tube PC board resoldered. I'll bet your are cracked. Also put a dab of clear silicone on the little orange and blue caps that kinda stick up on the main board - keeps them secure.
if it doesnt go high gain enough for you try out a few different pedals like tube OD or Boutique OD will push the gain over the edge.or just run it clean and get a ice 9 OD .its the sound that Joe Satriani uses.
Fender makes a few types of these amps if you dont have the hot rod it wont go that hi gain .I own a 4x10 blues divelle tweed and a hot rod divelle 4x10.the gain channels are very different the non hot rod will only go up so high and the hotrod will go way higher.these amps will power a 4x12 cab with the stock 4x10s it is a very nice amp for the price
The tone of original, the tone of gold, the tone that any brand tried to approach the low, mid-range and sustaine, but what ever it is... the warm frem the wood, and crunch tone frem the pickups...fer me, is still the Gibson. That's what I believe.
i'm also looking for this 76' Explorer, i hesitate between this one and the Vampire blood moon, which is just a little bit cheaper than the 76' explorer, but a floyd rose tremolo more!°
I have this same model gibson, and you do not need pedals with this guitar because the pickups are super hot and creamy and wil push a soft drive like in the amp to over the top sound.
@locolegsharvey What pickup do you have in your guitar? What guitar do you play? The Explorer has a pretty hot pickup compared to your average guitar, even hotter than an SG. I believe it's a 500T or something like that. But anywho, thats where he's getting that extra boom boom from.
@MrMets01 haha, just wondered... the amp has a really nice gain, but its still not that raw.... i use a boss SD-1 to push it a little further, does a great job!!!
@locolegsharvey that's because you have low output pickups, if you want to sound with high gain yo need maybe a dp102 dimarzio pickup...but actually i also own this amp and what i love is that smooth dist, if i would like to have a high gain dist i would buy a peavey tube amplifier.

@FletcherHabit - Try changing all of the tubes. I suggest Sovtek tubes myself. JJ's are too unreliable IMHO. Post back with your results.
