Every time I watch this, I think about what it means. I'm sure many vets and cops/firefighters think the same: They don't want their little girls or boys to have to see the things they've seen. They want them to be innocent forever. That's how I feel. Video games and movies make it seem so cool, but if you've been there you know it isn't cool, it's hell. And it never goes away. Gary Allan probably doesn't even realize how this one little song can bring out the emotions. He did a great job.

I know someone has to do it, so it may as well be us. I had a reporter ride with me one night. It changed her whole view of things. She couldn't believe the things that happen.

Just something like this song/vid...if you are giving it a thumbs down you are not American or you just like to thumb down stuff just to do it and think you are cool.
My friend is leaving for Afghanistan in March, after just meeting his now 16 month old daughter for the first time in November. Once he got to the airport, his little girl took her first steps to her daddy when her grandma said "Look, it's your daddy!". It was just a great moment, but it's gonna be hard for him to leave his gorgeous little girl in March. :)
I was a Marine 4 years and a cop for 20. I've seen some stuff. But my best memory is having my son fall asleep on my chest. It doesn't get any better than that.

@dlpine71 Personaly, I think everyone should serve at least one tour, but not if they have to be drafted. If you're not a total screwup and whiner it will mature you. And the things you'll learn (life experiences), especially if you go on a float to other countries, can never be duplicated. It's not like a cruise ship. In the military you really get to see the people and how they live. I know it made me glad to be an American. Thanks for your comment. I was glad to serve.

I support all fathers in the troops in fact one of my friend's dad is in afghanistan and she always keeps his picture in her pocket and every day the football players tease her thumbs up if you know what she's going through and/or support the troops
I am not a father but I know what it's like to see my dad cry im only 19 but i was diagnosed with cancer in August 2010 only a couple months after i graduated and it was the first time i saw him cry and it was the hardest thing to see. I am not still in treatment i have beat it twice and never shed a tear but i know full well that the day i have a kid i will loose it and break down out of pride and joy and be worried sick when they get hurt or leave the house for an extended period of time.

@manyhuar I wish I knew how you feel, but I wasn't there to see my baby born, and havn't been able to really help my girl take care of her. She is not really my child, but I love her like she is. It makes my heart swell to see her and her mother together and I keep thinking about what kind of father I will be for her, and what kind of man I will be for her mother, Hopefully the best there is, but I can see that you are already about there. I have never seen the video for this song and it's been sooooooo long since I've heard it. I have a brother in law that's in the air force. I pray for him and my sister every night that they will be safe and that nothing bad or terrible will happen to them. I thank the soldiers for what they do for us. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

My father is in the army and i listen to this every time he deploys to iraq because this is the song that connects our hearts and shows what he accutally feels for me. This will always be our song. I danced with him to this at his 2nd wedding and this will be our father daughter dance at my wedding.
