  • letterman doesn't have a funny bone in his body

  • In his book Jerry Lawler admitted that the feud between he and Kaufman was staged.

  • When I say true genius I mean the entertainment part of it........sure this was staged........wrestling is staged........but how many celebritys before kauffman did something like this........Andy was ahead of his time.........maybe he was not funny to you but as a entertainer he made people hate him , love him and feel sorry for him........in my own opinion he was a genius

  • @babyrae1982 what up with all the "........."? just one "." will do fine.

  • @babyrae1982 amen!

  • Andy was a true genius ........In wwe today you always see celebritys facing wrestlers at wrestlemania and any other show but Andy was the first to do that......Before him that was never done.......He was way ahead for his time.......What a smart man and genius entertainer he was........Its just sad he died to young because I'm sure he would have done more amazing things to entertain his fans.........Now Andy did you hear about this one: Your fans Loved you and still do

  • @babyrae1982 True fuckin genius! Crap and unfunny, this was obviously staged, a blind man can see that.Kaufman wasn`t funny ....get over it!..

  • Andy should of kicked that guys ass, if i was alive and in the room i would of done it for him....dick

  • "I will sue you, you motherfucking asshole!" - as he hides behind the desk and runs.

  • Do you suppose Kaufman somehow knew he was going to die so young? That would've made him an absolute genius.

If not, that would make him a peabrain who pissed away a promising career with one bad career move after another, and only an early death saved him from obscurity.

  • Are you a fan of his work or not? And, if he was still alive, he would still be a legend at this point in time, because most people (except people like you) finally caught up w/ what he was doing.

  • @SpadeDBLR its all right, man, you've just gotta ignore Neo Nazi assholes like that. all they want is a response.

  • @Richthor1889

Andy Kaufman isn't dead he faked it he is too genius!

  • @dallas118owns He's definitely dead. If he were to make some sort of grand appearance revealing he's still alive, he would've done it a LOT sooner.

Even by now, the younger ones don't even know who he was. If he came back, the magnitude of the event would be much less significant now, and people would be like "Who the fuck is Andy?".

  • Your country is rotten through and through! Kick the doors in the whole lot will come tumbling down, fuck that unfunny kike Kaufman, R.I.H more like ,rot in hell

  • @spadeDBLR Wow you sound as bright as a total eclipse of the sun , i can see you lack intellect ,with your ranting and raving, YOUR COUNTRY! Ha ha ! Mongrel race of niggers and Jews , now sir crawl back your rock you braindead fool!

  • LOL they all believed this was real.

  • @gusyyy23

    You mean it wasn't?

  • Fuck me you Americans laugh at anything, this man is about as funny as a brain tumor, (which ain't at all funny) glad the cunt died , as to spare us anymore of his unfunny twaddle! What a fucking wanker this man was!

  • @Richthor1889 You foreign, fucking twat! Fuck you okay! If you have a problem with my county or its comedy, then stay the fuck out and don't watch it. No one forced you to watch this video and for you to disrespect a dead man, that makes you the fucking cunt in my book. Maybe it wasn't that Andy wasn't funny, it was that your brain was too fucking puny to grasp the humor. FUCK OFF!!!! R.I.P. Andy Kaufman

  • @Richthor1889 What performance artist (who often did comedy) do you like? I'd really like to know.

  • At least 10 of these views were by Jim Carrey!

  • Andy Kaufman wasn't funny after he started wrestling women. Just not funny. If you can't write funny material you "subvert the medium" like a "genius".

  • Yes, the whole thing between Andy and Larry Lawler was an orchestrated beef that Andy and his co-manager cooked up. That was his style of comedy, to deceive people to the point where they actually believe what they're watching is real. LOL, when I first saw it I thought it all was real also but then I said to myself wait, i used to think the same thing about wrestling when I was little. He was a genius and ne1 who goes through those lengths for laughter is ok in my book. R.I.P. Andy.

  • I know in the movie these two were actually buddies and the whole thing was planned, but is that how it happened in real life?

  • Andy Kaufman...fucking genius!

Is he really dead? Who the fuck knows? lol

  • Genius!!!!

  • I thought it was real until the movie came out. I wonder if Letterman was in on it.

  • @toddrandall68 A couple months ago Rolling Stone had an excellent article on the first year of the Late Show. According to it, Letterman was not in on the gag.

  • Beautiful!

  • they got it spot on in the film

  • Andy was a Fucking Mad GENIUS!

  • WAS THIS FOR REAL OR A STUNT?? GEZZUS.. THIS MADE MADONNAS CRAZINESS SEEM RANDOMMM/./ LMFAO

  • all staged

  • oh shit he just amcked himout of his chair

  • why do people constantly reiterate on youtube...

  • @NifferNizatt I know what you mean! What's up with that? It's especially prevailent on Family Guy clips.

  • the slap was very real...this was clearly some sort of gig they had together and Kaufman went too far and got slapped hard...

  • @GodHatesPortugal Nope... This whole thing was staged, the Slap was "Pre-planned", I mean it was a REAL SLAP, but it was Planned. See Andy is a performer and the whole world is his stage!

  • Lawler is a wrestler... when he's on a talk show it's staged... when he's in a wrestling ring, it's fake... I don't get the difference. Their probably is no difference.

  • Letterman was classic, too. Could you imagine how this would have looked on Leno?

  • In real life, Kaufman and Lawler were best of friends.

  • all orchestrated by lawler and kaufman... awesome show... the great performance artist... andy kaufman

  • why did jim carrey chose to portray that pansy... what a pussy

  • cheap shot by lawler :P

  • funny they didnt know it was staged.

  • @chibangin007 Judging by some of the comments, some people still don't.

  • god i love andy

  • it's awesome-letterman actualy appeared on the movie and had to go through this again with Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman.......

  • gone too soon!!:(

  • Tonight, Oct 11th, on the Wrestling Breakdown Show we pay tribute to the "song and dance man", the self-proclaimed "Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World" Andy Kaufman. Only on Israel Sports Radio

  • Jim Carrey's best role.

  • I'm sure you answered this already, but for those who got here late, How did you get this Uncensored?

  • "It was a shiny moment for behavioral science"

  • The movie scene was a bit more believable than this.

  • Damn Kaufman got knocked the fucked out! Hilarious while the band was playing Not just Knee Deep. Great TV!

  • Comment removed

  • Dwight Schrute on the right at 1:13

  • Andy Kaufman was the world's first TROLL!

  • @MrChattycat Diogenes of Sinope

  • @MrChattycat not really but he sure was one of the best

  • @MrChattycat i was rewatching this movie today and I said the dame thing to my boyfriend! Indeed he was!!!!

  • @MrChattycat never thought about it like that, but you're absolutely right!

  • @MrChattycat And Lars Planken, MoS, will be the last

  • How does anybody believe this is real? Even with or without the knowledge that it was indeed pre-planned.

Lawler slaps Andy and nobody says anything. The audience just claps and Dave sits there as they go to a commercial. No security. No running on stage. Dave says nothing.

  • @TheHockeyCentral I'm not sure that many people believed it was real at the time. But for those who did, it was probably because Kaufman's style was innovative. People probably weren't used to that kind of "trolling".

But even today, people believe similar trollings. Like the Joaquin Phoenix one. Even the media picked up on it and really believed he had gone mad... only to realize it was a stunt for a mockumentary about Phoenix's fall into madness, which was all acting.

  • good ol' days when wrestling was real!!!!

  • 0:40 LOL

  • Was this real?

  • @takerisawesome no, they were friends in real life

  • @takerisawesome No. It was planned.

  • my car broke down in the middle of a busy street. it was the altinator. that means no emergency lights flashing. no nothing. it took over two hours to get help. the sun burned and cooked a dime size hole in my forehead. i had at least two hats in the car, but was just amazed at the number of tow trucks that passed (3or 4)--- i speak for andy... we must do something - our world is plundered by psychopaths totally in control. if my car was all electric- this never happen

  • @cshargeit wait what the fuck did you just say?

  • lol people see a real slap happen to someone, so they think everything else is real haha

  • Was this live?

  • Ironically, Elvis Presley almost did a "karate vs. wrestler" match with Jerry Lawler. But, he died before it could occur' Andy Kaufman is credited with popularizing "Elvis Tribute Artist". So, he and Jerry Lawler had a long fued. Lawler writes about both "storylines", in his autobiography.

  • i saw this scene in the movie. they fooled em all.

  • Andy hesitates throwing the coffee so Lawler can get out of the way in time...he pretty much deliberately misses him, lol. Great stuff.

  • i just look at this and i just keep thinking 'damn, jim carrey did an amazing job'

  • @XDPeruMan It made many wrestling fans belive pro-wrestling was real. David Schutlz's slapping John Stossel almost matches Lawler and Kaufman's "real" hatred.

  • @XDPeruMan

For some reason I've found Jim Carrey f** annoying and artificial in the movie while Andy had something sweet and almost innocent about him and that made him special

  • @XDPeruMan i think jim in a crazy way had more talent at doing kaufmann and especially ton clifton.. comments welcome guys on 2 true comedians

  • @weapons33 I can see where you would say that, but remember. Without Andy Kaufman, there would be no Jim Carey. In fact, I think the comedian world would be completely different. Andy was the first true Alternative Comedian. He changed the entire face of what a comedian was suppose to be....

  • @JeepRuby101 a great reply friend ..think your right... merry christmas..

  • @XDPeruMan Jim Carrey did do an amazing job, love that dude. But dont forget who he was portraying which was the mad genius Andy Kaufman!!!

  • brilliant genius

  • the greatest troll that ever lived. well played sir, well played.

  • Dave owes everything he has today to this truly sublime moment in comedy history.

  • was this really staged?

  • @GORIZARD6 Yes it was. If you watch the andy kaufman documentary, they interview Jerry Lawler. The two were actually good friends and had concocted this entire drama. Amazingly genius.

  • my dog took a piss on Kaufman's grave..

  • @Aznar245 You are a fucking dick.

  • @BacchusFA And you're a fucking faggot..

  • @BacchusFA hahahaha what a brilliant come back. You probably also suck your dogs dick on a nightly basis inbred.

  • Great gag! They were good friends, they set this up from the beginning, fooled everyone! Kaufman was awesome!

  • jerry lawer is a pric

  • @OUWATZAHLE08 Lawler was his friend.

  • Andy didn't deserve to die

  • The Letterman show was great in the early years of his show. Notice they didn't bleep Kaufman? I was a Teen when this was on and it was revolutionary compared to Carson and others

  • @macroevolve you mean when this was broadcasted it wasn't censored?

  • @MrZombie747 It's been so long, that I couldn't say for sure. In his early years, he came on at 12:30AM - an hour later than now - and cable was in it's infancy and few people had it, so when the news ended - 10:30 - 11:00PM there wasn't much on and kids didn't stay up as late, considering it ran on school night - Mon-Thur. I'm not sure what NBC (he was on NBC then) aired on Fridays in the same time slot.

  • @macroevolve I see. Nowadays, on cable, anything after midnight isn't censored. Since i was born in 95' I have no idea how they did things back then. I'm guessing that it was censored because even if the FCC wasn't around then they would've censored it to please the sponsors. But anyways thanks for the reply.

  • @MrZombie747 yes but this version isn't

  • who the fuck is lawler anyways? no one remembers him...

  • @yihate actually, Lawler is well known in the pro-wrestling world. look him up!

  • When Dave says that he wishes Tom was there, I think he meant Tom Snyder, whose show "Tomarrow" he replaced. A joke. I saw this when it originally aired and you couldn't tell if it was staged or not. It was sort of shocking because things like this didn't air on t.v. circa 1983 like they do now.

  • what does he mean when he says he wishes tom was here? thanks

  • Thanks for posting this! i've been looking for the un edited version of this for a long time.

  • jerry lawler sucked anyway

  • @sportsfan9217 it was staged

  • Andy wins, no debate here.

  • @inklasso it was staged

  • @MrJrdify I know it was a joke.

  • An iconic moment in tv history.

  • KING OF TROLLS

  • I wish people could understand how shocking and original that bit was at the time. Now we have these dumb reality show shitheads punching women, snatching weaves off each other's heads, flipping tables, and throwing all manner of tantrum on a nightly basis. What made Andy special was the fact that he manipulated the audience for their own benefit, and appealed to their intelligence to get laughs. These days audiences are just manipulated for fucking ratings, with no intelligence involved at all

  • I think the main thing that made people believe it was real at the timewas the slap and how real that looked

  • @AceDagger1 oh he really did slap the shit out of Kaufman but it was indeed staged.

  • andy kaufman is alive. he's a professional poker player named phil gordon.

  • It was thirty years ago why argue

  • Andy Kaufman was a prick. Staged or not. He was a real pain in the ass.

  • I know this was the kayfabe era in wrestling still (though most people would claim wrestling was fake even then), but did people really think this was real? It seems too rehearsed by Kaufman, like he was doing an act.

  • 1:25 nice save.,.,

  • Long before the FCC would sue the shit out of you for talking like that on network television. The good old days.

  • @fran9860 say that when u have 5 documentaries about you and a golden globe winning movie, say that when you sell out radio city music hall and Madison square garden say that when your on SNL, until you've accomplished those things shut the fuck up

  • @ThePokeyPictures Let me explain something to you sweetheart; Andy Kaufman was a skin-head nazi in private; and if I had been in the ring with Kaufman, my first PILE-DRIVER for this NAZI FUCK would have been his last. I read the "Star" today and it is reported Kaufman is in hell sniffing Osama's Balls. Now, with that said, can I plug you in the butt?

  • @fran9860 yet you call him a jew fuck, and hes a skin head.....oh right youre a troll

  • @ThePokeyPictures the word you are looking for is "you're" which is a contraction of "you are" asshole. the word youre does not exist. NOW, GO FUCK YOUR MOTHER!

  • @fran9860 yawn youre a shitty troll, at least stay on the topic dummy

  • @fran9860 are you retarded? hahah kaufman was a PRACTICING JEW, (which, if you didnt know, the nazis hated) where did you get that crazy idea?

  • I wish he'd do that to Michael Cole...

  • did people in the audience know this was all an act? because they were laughing and cheering him on...so was it just Letterman who didn't get Andy's humour or something? kinda feel sorry for Letterman lol he looked really freaked out.

  • IMO, if you can't recognize something as humor, it really isn't funny. This however seemed to be Kaufman's trademark style of "humor".

Letterman displays some real talent, keeping a cool head and even getting some laughs out of this. His losing the Tonight Show to Leno was a huge injustice to the TV industry.....

  • The best!

  • ummm I think Letterman uses this stuff a lot, of course he is in on it, he just pretends not to be

  • NBC page at 1:13 has to remind dumb security guy that it's all just an act and to get out of the way. lolololol

  • LOL classic

  • The looks on Letterman's staff is absolutely priceless. Still the best "angle" in the history of the business.

  • Comment removed

  • @bennyvega100 Well, just before the slap, he said, "what's the matter Lawler, you can't take it?"

  • I love how all of this was a prank, and everyone believed it to be real!

  • if you pause at 1 second you get a "hulk" letterman....

  • @grommet1966 i seen that too =O

  • this is the best thing that's been on tv

  • Andy and Lawler were friends. This whole thing was an act, including all the wrestling they did. Or as Andy would say: wratsling Watch the movie Man in the Moon with Jim Carey

  • was this broadcasted live?

  • @CarlosJulio20 It was taped in the afternoon and broadcast at 12:30 AM thenext morning. Needless to say, all the coarse language was "bleeped" out.

  • andy breaks the illusion of life that all people hide behind. we're just monkeys wrapped in suits.

  • @asleepMS2 No

  • @macdaddylorenzo yes. watch this vid on MUTE.

  • @asleepMS2 yes some people definitely do a great job at acting like monkeys, doesn't mean they are monkeys. Anyway, I won't argue any further on the concept of similarity and difference. There are similarities, great ones, greater than many people would like to notice or admit. And there are great differences. The similarities are not absolute, nor are the differences.

I think that you and I ultimately agree, though you use language implying the similarity is total.

  • @asleepMS2 We are not monkeys wrapped in suits, just as monkeys are not plants, microbes, or insects wrapped in hair. There are differences between different things in this universe.

If you were lost in the jungle & stumbled upon a monkey, it would not be the same as if you stumbled upon a human. It could be better, or worse, but not the same. If you don't see the difference, I encourage you to practise giving love: you will find it, & your view on your nature will change. NB: it's NOT easy.

  • @macdaddylorenzo stare at your own tits in silence for a while. silence. then notice your hair follicles. they may not be as thick as a chimpanzee's, but you cannot escape the similarity. embrace it: you are, always have been, and always will be >> consciousness driving the vehicle called "homo sapien"

  • @asleepMS2

    And little hats.

  • @asleepMS2 you are half right

  • @asleepMS2 stfu

  • This is just like Lawler's current feud with WWE announcer Michael Cole.

  • This entire episode and everything related from beginning to end regarding Kaufman's wrestling, ultimately leading to Lawler was a brilliant con.. Millions of Americans were so sucked into this. Absolutely brilliant.

    Miss you Andy.

  • jerry springer was watching this and thought "that gives me an idea..."

  • @TheEgg185 that would be an awesome idea you wouldn't know if the fans were chanting "jerry" springer or "jerry" lawler. lol

  • holy shit jim carry does it perfect

  • this was the ultimate joke.i remember watching this and was shocked.after andy apologizes and then says it again,i got it.andy was the best at the practical joke.he was a genius and we miss him

  • Lawler watched this video 10 times

  • I wish TV was still this good

  • im sorry but ... its a joke ?

  • @ninik06 It actually was, in fact, a hoax. But that was only confirmed by Lawler after Kaufman's death.

  • he was very believable Andy Kaufman

  • A lesson for Michelle Cole.

  • Letterman's Hair looks like a big Fucking Rat

  • Comment removed

  • Most awkward transition to commercial...ever.

  • he missed the King with David's water lol
