This is a great vid. Very easy to understand. What is the ratio for the amount of rope to a certain length on the bar? I know for a regular solomon bar it's 1 foot of paracord to every 1 inch on the bar.
To finish, I would tie either one large half hitch knot with all of the cords together or maybe two/three smaller half hitch knots or you could do all three and make a triangle end. I suppose it depends how decretive you want it to look.
If your worried about these coming unravelled when used as an item such as a shotgun sling that is carrying an important weight (thinking gun safety here), you could sew a hidden stitch or two through each knot used to finish it.
Hi did none of you ever think of using a loom instead of braiding paracord by hand? I am really not so much into sitting there for hours to do that, if I know that there are devices that could help me save a lot of time, while I have to be less skillfull...
I think paracord is really a great item to carry with you every day and I thought about weaving bigger things like a belt - doing that by hand would take way to much time... - so could someone help me to find the right kind of loom for that?
@vitopetre if cant spare the time to do it by hand then dont do it the point of doing it by hand it simple this is an art form. picaso never used a device do do his work. the paracord here is canvas while the knots are the brushes
I know that you can do knots, weaving and other handcraft and regard it art. And I respect that and I especially respect the people who perform this art with devotion - no doubt about that.
The thing is: Not everyone is a Picasso, most people have other talents and not so much time to practice this art.
I already did some of those bracelets by hand, but I want to produce larger items, like I said and building or using devices is some kind of art as well...
As soupwell has said, knowing the ratio of strand length to the length of the finished item would be really handy. I want to make a rifle sling using this method but don't want to get a couple of hours in and discover that the whole thing is too short! :-)
@calverz I made a sling for my shotgun and it came out to be a foot per inch for each piece PLUS the desired length of your sling. For example, my sling is 42 inches long, so add 42 inches, plus an additional 2 inches (to account for wraps on sling harness) plus one foot of paracord per inch of weave for each of the three pieces. Never done this before and it took me about an hour start to finish. Took my time, but it came out perfect and well worth the time and trouble. Good luck!
@trevormcm If you tie the bar as shown in the video to a finished length of 60 inches, your lengths will be as follows, the center color will require 61 feet of paracord, while each of the outer colors will need 50 feet of paracord. The center color needs a little more due to the intricacy of the stitch between both outer colors.
these lengths are based on my using 550, 7 strand paracord for my shotgun sling. There should be a little left over... but not much. Better too much than not enough :)
@SuperEpic92 do you do hemp? because its doing two square knots. the very basic knot in making hemp things. just puting two togeather to make one big square knot.
@SuperEpic92 do you do hemp? because its doing two square knots. the very basic knot in making hemp things. just puting two togeather to make one big square knot.
@cLaX1227 Seems like that would be pretty hard to me. Wouldn't the king cobra have to go over and through the middle? I guess if you used a needle you prolly could.
OK, I agree this guy knows his stuff. I agree he goes step by step. Speed...well he needs to slow down and get his hands out of the way sometimes. By the time I tighten down one step I look up and he is three steps ahead of me. On an easy knot like the cobra that speed is fine. This is more complicated and takes a few times to get it down. I've made plenty of paracord belts, anklets and bracelets. I've never had to watch and re-watch as many times as I did with this one.
JD, i have made so many cool ties thanks to you. You're videos are so awesome! Keep up the good work and thank you so much for what you do! Be blessed!
JD-TIAT, I have been watchin ur vids for a long time. U do a wonderful job explaining and showing whats going on. Keep up the Awsome work, may God bless you!
@TyingItAllTogether What would be a good design to make a belt with? My little brother has been wanting a paracord belt and his birthday is coming up. Thanks in advance!
It's incredibly easy to follow without written or spoken directions. He uses great colors and moves at just the right pace to follow along on your own piece. Once you've done a pass or two, pretty easy to figure out from there on your own. Keep up the good work TIAT!
hey JD if you know the feet of chord for each inch could you post that somewhere becuase im going to make a belt and i would like to have a estimate of how much i need.
thanks for the video and if you could post that please do
@Decaff2010 you can pull the remaining strings through the ring again and tie them together(c wut i did there?) if you want it to be a bracelet, else i think burning is the only option
i love all your videos, im new to this and you have helped alot. you go slow and take your time which i really appriciate. i now can do the zipper, river bar, cobra, and hopefully after this video the soloman bar. thanks again. im using a shackle hope it works as well as yours.
JD - you estimate 2.5 feet of cord for each inch of Bush Bar. What would you estimate as feet required (of each of three cords) for each inch for Wide Solomon Bar? I'm using 550 cord. Thanks in advance for your help!
So it's totally possibly to make a belt using that method? Using a ring like in the video is good for one end but what knot would you prefer to tie it off? Crown knots?
I am also wondering about how to tie off. This has given me an idea for a new set of reins for my horse and possibly other tack. very nice looking piece.
Thanks for this video! Going to help my girlfriend make a rifle sling using this method. I have a lot of 550 cord around and wanted to make some creative and useful things with it. Thanks for all the great videos fun to watch and if anything else the music is really interesting too.
I just made a belt that measured about 46 in" and the middle cord was around 36 feet (436 inches) the two side cord were closer to about 50" better to have to much than to little. It took about 5 hours but looks good and very light to wear
wow great knot work but i could see where a toggle would come in very handy on this type of work it would make it tighter and most likely you would be able to tie the knots faster. a toggle would hold the strand fast and you could then have both hands free to do your knotting.
hey also i am your biggest fan! you are the only guy i watch because its like you are right there teaching me step by step of what to do! so merry Christmas and thanks for everything you have done

JD - you are the man, this is so awesome. You're really helping me "master my craft". I happen to make parachutes for a living... but the cord IS the BEST part. I love 550 cord so much, we only use red and green though, boo. I ordered your book, can't wait for it! Many Christmases are now solved, thanks to you!
If I had the same color cord, this would be a cinch. Otherwise, too fast my friend! I only have mil spec red and green, can't relate(substitute) so easily at high speed. I still really appreciate your efforts though, excellent work! I have a short attention span maybe... Damn, I wish I had black and white!
When im done with my rifle sling i will be making my self a bracelet with that weave. I was thinking of a 2 knot system with 2 loops instead of one like on the cobra weave. I think it would fit more comfortably then a single point tie off. There is the plastic clip option if you dont mind spending the money i guess.
@roque257 you made a rifle sling??? ive been looking all over the internet trying to find a good one and i think i like this one and i also have noticed its 1 foot of cord for just under 1 inch of braid on the cobra so it really is just about the same for this braid then? and if you dont mind me asking how did you start and stop it? im thinking a swivel sling thing for the start and end but cant think of how i would tie it off wonce i was done.
Im about 50% done with my sling now. I started the braid as shown in the video. Im not sure how im going to finish the end yet but ill let you know. I will be making a small vid when im done so every one can see how it turns out. O ya, its a foot per inch by the way. I also wanna add this will take some time I been working on it off and on for a few days now and im only half way there. 47" is a bit of work
@roque257 ok ill keep a look but ive been doing some thinking today and i think i may have a bomb proof way to make it it just wont be hella strong but will still have a 1100 breaking point if its a good weave
I just daisy chain mine. Much simpler configuration that I can do even in the dark. It knots the cord up enough that its manageable and stores well in the side pocket of a pack.
Years ago I seen a vehicle tow strap that was made from nylon rope or ropes woven that looked kind of similar to a solomon bar any thoughts on the type of knots or weaving process? Also, would a solomon bar made from heavier material be suitable for a tow strap?
I think I might try to make a rifle sling after I use this to make a watch band. The guitar strap idea is awesome too. Lots of uses for this. I think that several of my friends might get solomon bar inspired gifts this year. Great video!!!
Looks great but DAYUM, it must have taken forever! You should sell them on ebay.

How much paracord did you use per strand? I see most of your other bracelet videos use 5'.

ive been trying to figure out a way to make a good bracelet with the wide solomon bar but havent been able to make it work, and suggestions?

@tronclay

@elwayfan101
I found its smiler to the cobra weave. about 1 foot per inch for each piece of rope. i made a test piece before i decide to make my rifle sling. ^.^
roque257 1 year ago
@roque257 you made a rifle sling??? ive been looking all over the internet trying to find a good one and i think i like this one and i also have noticed its 1 foot of cord for just under 1 inch of braid on the cobra so it really is just about the same for this braid then? and if you dont mind me asking how did you start and stop it? im thinking a swivel sling thing for the start and end but cant think of how i would tie it off wonce i was done.

@snowboarddude117
47" is a bit of work
roque257 1 year ago
@roque257 ok ill keep a look but ive been doing some thinking today and i think i may have a bomb proof way to make it it just wont be hella strong but will still have a 1100 breaking point if its a good weave

it looks like a belt!

I just daisy chain mine. Much simpler configuration that I can do even in the dark. It knots the cord up enough that its manageable and stores well in the side pocket of a pack.

how much wider can this be done? And if you could do a vid?

Who is the music you use for your video's? Awesome music and awesome braiding!

Years ago I seen a vehicle tow strap that was made from nylon rope or ropes woven that looked kind of similar to a solomon bar any thoughts on the type of knots or weaving process? Also, would a solomon bar made from heavier material be suitable for a tow strap?
emlerron 1 year ago
do you happen to have a chart stating what lengths of paracord you'd need for different belt size ie 50' for a 34" or something like that?

what is this song? Sweet pattern, I'm thinking of getting into making bracelets, really just as a way to pass the time and relax.

I think I might try to make a rifle sling after I use this to make a watch band. The guitar strap idea is awesome too. Lots of uses for this. I think that several of my friends might get solomon bar inspired gifts this year. Great video!!!
