  • o god!!! amazing!

  • No other tenor does to me what this guy does. I would tell you what that is but there could be children out there! I love Gedda.

  • This is just perfect !!

  • super

  • BEST PLACED VOICE OF THE PLANET...HOPE HE TAUGHT SOME PEOPLE HIS TECHNIQUE, SO WE CAN HEAR SUCH SOFT AND BRILLIANT TONE ONE DAY AGAIN IN OPERA.

  • Oh my God!!!!!!!! How could he sing PERFECTLY in every language????????!!!!!!!!!

    Absolute giant among giants!

  • perfect enunciation, colorful voice, effortless transitions...not over the top

  • perfect enunciation, colorful voice, effortless transitons...not over the top

  • magic

  • Funny how I used to associate opera with Italy, but the more I listened to different renditions, the more I moved away from Italian tenors (Pavarotti and Bergonzi I must exclude). Many famous Italians are like, 'I'm Italian, and I have a nice, powerful voice, what more can you ask for?!', too self indulgent, with little nuance or sense of style!

I prefer Gedda, Kraus, Bjorling et al. IMO, these are the real artists. Who cares about the slight accent when the singing is so sympathetic?

  • voce fuori ruolo.

  • no one can beat Enrico Caruso

  • His high-tones are remarqeble clean. He and Jussi Björling ahve teh same timbre.

  • My God, it's like a glass of the finest wine, to revisit these old friends. My mom loved Nicholai - did he ever sing a false note?!? Myself, I love me some Jussi, but such a treat to hear Nikko!

  • Excellent. Bravo Maestro!

  • Todas las versiones de Gedda estan llenas de pasion y vida con una calidad vocal indiscutible. El siempre estara entre los grandes de siempre

  • WHAT YEAR IS THIS?

  • Superb! Bravo! TY.

  • very nice rendition

  • Nicolai Gedda and Giuseppe di Stefano are the greatest tenors at all times. So expressive voices and yet not over the top.

  • "porippon"

No they are not. They are only excellent ;-)

  • Funny you mention Mr. Gedda and Mr. Stefano in the same sentence.

Mr. Gedda is more of an aristocratic singer, while Mr Stefan is more freedom of the soul.

Anyway, I also love them both

  • You must add Josep Carreras to follow Gedda and di Stefano. They are all similar in the emotion they bring to the music, and what I call tears of the voice

"lacrime della voce". It's a beautiful sound.

A cry from the depths of their souls. There

are other wonderful tenors - but not of the same timber of voice, nor complete surrender to the characters they inhabit

    completely.

  • I don't consider this part too heavy for him... Gedda's voice has a tender, lyrical quality which suits this aria which - we should remember - ought to be an intimate confession and not a loud pathetical outburst. Every word is felt by him as he sings it, and notice his diction - every word is pronounced absolutely clearly!

  • Funny you should say that, I've always thought this role should be played by a Lyric or Spinto tenor. The text should be dealt with more delicately, he's an artist and a pious man.

  • The role is a little heavy for this great tenor, but he still sings it beautifully:) --

  • I don't think so. It's nothing like I vespri, for instance. He sang Tosca fairly frequently.

  • i hear a quality similar to di Stefano.. nice! I like this tenor.

  • Kära Nicolai!

Jag skriver direkt till dig här och tackar dig för din underbara livsinsats. Jag har varit hos din kollega Erik Saedén i två år och sjunger basso profundo. Bry dig inte om de som skriver illa om dig.

    Sven-Olov

  • the most underrated tenor!! of all time

  • A very underrated tenor in my opinion.

  • Underrated? He's regarded as one of the best tenors in the 20th century...

  • bravo!!!

  • カヴァラッドッシもいけます。やっぱりいい声ですね。

    でもちょっと動きがオカマっぽい??

  • As one who studied singing you could at least write Gigli's name correctly.

  • HA HA HA....

  • ... and with this it is evident you have no understanding for music and singing! Shame!

  • Gedda a pale imitation of Gigli?Ha ha.Gedda's style and musicality is much more sophisticated than Gigli's.Both of them had great mezza voce and used to sing with dynamic shading but Gedda's pianissimo was different from Gigli's.C.Gigli couldn't sing a pianissimo high B while Gedda could sing even a pianissimo D flat.Gigli didn't have great high notes while Gedda's high D was bigger than Sutherland's.Tagliavini was a imitation of Gigli ,Gedda had his own style.

  • Beautiful!

  • Superb performance! Still I feel sorry for all tenors...Wonderful singing by Gedda, but...

The master of all masters (Jussi Bjorling) level can simply not be reached!

I have mixed feelings about this. I appreciate Geddas version. Wonderful singing! But Jussis "golden tones" just hangs in there as the number one of all times. Luckily, we all have different tastes.

  • such beautiful singing -- i love how this video channels Gedda's inner Elvis.

  • Gedd in his prime
