i heard mark wahlberg really did almost drown in the last scene. but i dunno how true it is though. but at least everything came out alright in the end including him and the movie
It was an anxious moment to watch during the movie alright. But, quite fake. Using the 79-foot fishing boat as a scale, I estimate that to be an impossibly high 500-foot wave. Also, the wave crested and broke over the ship after the Gail feel back into the trough. That much water would generate billions of pounds of pressure per square foot, the and boat and everything in it would have been as flat as an onion skin
@mnpd007 It was an anxious moment to read your comment alright. But, it was quite stupid. Using big words as a scale, i estimate comment that to be an impossibly retarded analysis. Also, the movie is from hollywood and is completely inaccurate. That much inaccuracy would generate billions of dollars and the actors, directors, and the industry would be as rich as kings

What's the name of the music playing during this scene? I feel like I've heard it in another (more recent) movie. The 'duh-nuh-de-neeehhh' trumpet bit. Looked up the soundtrack, but couldn't work it out. Good movie though...

@SYRUPnSPRITE It's not random, a rogue wave is just a couple of crests of smaller waves approaching one spot, amplifying one another by doing so.
@Dinoenthusiastguy A tsunami is a wave too ofcourse. It's just of an entirely different kind than normal windwaves because of it's wavelength. Wavelengths of tsunami's average about 100 km while large windwaves won't go over 250 meters. Tsunami's will never be deepseawaves however, because a deepseawave will need half it's wavelength of waterdepth.
man...when watching his movie as a whole....well...im 23...and a guy...these final scenes get me very time. If you dont at least get a single tear...idk
That why I keep my ass on land and not in the ocean. And If I did seen a wave like that coming toward me I would take a shit in the ocean before it would take me and say this is for you.
@wert1074 You do know "the perfect storm" is just a movie right?? All the actors on there are just portraying the actual guys who died. Mark Wahlberg is well and alive today and so are the other actors....
@ShellShockHQ Actually, a wave can break in the ocean like that. When you have a rogue wave that forms from the merging of the crests of two or more waves, they can potentially reach a height and speed where the top of the wave travels faster than the bottom of the wave, and thus the wave breaks.
@peterahjorter if you take 10 secinds to think how they might have found out basics for what happened you will understand. first of all the people who lived were aware that the boat was sinked and that all the crew died. and also they knew that they tried to sale through the storm and you can just use common since to figure our what it was like for them in real life. also as far as what they did on a "Fishing Boat" you can just use common since for that to
Its a bit funny about how its based on a true story when all onboard died. The true story could really only be told by those who were onboard the ship the movie is about
John C. Reilly is about to die and his final thoughts are: "This is gonna be hard on my little boy." Now that's what I call a father, his only concern facing certain death is the effect it will have on his son. As a guy that is usually typecast as a goofy comedic type, Reilly surprised me with how well he played his role.
@sonicblew Reilly has quite some good dramatic roles on his resumée. You should check them out. Just because he ain't that Hollywood-looking star doesn't mean he is only type-casted as the goofy idiot.
@reeft I'm the first to admit, I'm far less informed on film than I am on music. I see most of my films by accident or on repeat viewings of my old favorites. Any films in particular where I could see Mr. Reilly perform his craft dramatically? My main critique of him has been that I usually encounter him while my family/friends are watching a Will Ferrell movie or such, and I just can't bear it. @papiocutie He I there died by drowning or shark possibly because there no was that u could survive that with out a life jacket even then possibly not
I think that wave is perfect and looks absolutely real. There are 100 foot waves out there, if you're interested read the book, much better than the movie and describes more stuff than they even begin to show in the movie. I remember Mark Wahlberg had to keep a bucket nearby during this scene because he could not stop puking.
@babeboyp actually they did, ther eis a rescue boat that can roll about underwater for some time adn still go back up to original posision without endangering the crew
@JWlufc the one said how do you do it skip? and the other replied no school for it never was. (and if youre confused at the school part he ment they never tought how to get past those huge waves.
@fullonforce I think he means it didnt look real enough. Unfortunately a lot of CGI work is just plain shoddy in many films, a lot of FX artists may be too proud to to state that they cannot do what is asked of them well enough to give the studios a chance to find someone that can. This, Mummy Returns and the Star Wars Prequels prime examples
I have a question, I love the movie, and understand everything but one simple thing... After the ship is flipped over by the wave, Bobby and Skip have come up in the air pocket and Bobby says "How do we do this, Skip?" And then Skip says. "No school for it... never was" What exactly are they talking about? About how they done trying to fight the storm? Or about how they'll go about dying? That part always confused me.
that what happens when you forget your brain at home. hate to say it but these were some the dumbest ppl on the planet.ya lets fucking sail in to a storm
@Gamecules Well see if they didn't all of that fish would of spoiled and they needed the money. So ya you would be stupid mother fucker. Also, if you watched the movie the captain asked and they took a vote. So like I said, you are the stupid fucker.
@STLRedbird11091 you'd risk your life for a little money? dads been a fisherman for 30 years reason hes still alive today and most of his friends arent is because everytime he got warning about a storm he'd goto town. Money isnt worth your life if you can help it.
@aussiedog521, well, this is the North Atlantic. Hypothermia (10 minutes or less and poof, gone). Not to mention that no life jacket and oh, the full fisherman suit (rather heavy)...
@aussiedog521 captain goes down with the ship... plus he knows that there is very little chance of survival. but mostly captain goes down with the ship.
@aussiedog521 Supposedly a captain does not leave his sinking ship. Kinda stupid if you ask me. Last time I saw the movie was like 5 years ago, I guess I changed now.
@carpentercorn definitely, especially if the waves go down and you dont get carried down with them, you will fall right down into the water from like 50 feet
@steaklover99 it's actually one of the most peaceful ways to die, i mean you do panic and all but when you actually start to drown it doesnt hurt, it has the same effects as if you were going to sleep
Wolfgang Petersen knows how to make gripping movies. Check out Das Boot..or In the Line of Fire etc etc etc...

do u think that the dude who did swim out of the boat would survive?
aussiedog521 1 year ago
@aussiedog521, well, this is the North Atlantic. Hypothermia (10 minutes or less and poof, gone). Not to mention that no life jacket and oh, the full fisherman suit (rather heavy)...

@aussiedog521 Supposedly a captain does not leave his sinking ship. Kinda stupid if you ask me. Last time I saw the movie was like 5 years ago, I guess I changed now.

這部片 船長也太天真了吧! 前方的浪潮你過來 別向前衝
結果船長撇下了受困的船員

would be freaky as hell to be floating on top of the waves of that storm!
carpentercorn 1 year ago
@carpentercorn definitely, especially if the waves go down and you dont get carried down with them, you will fall right down into the water from like 50 feet

i think it be scary drowning
steaklover99 1 year ago
@steaklover99 it's actually one of the most peaceful ways to die, i mean you do panic and all but when you actually start to drown it doesnt hurt, it has the same effects as if you were going to sleep
