  • This has to be one of my favorite songs in the World.....just love love how it linked hearts during those Wars!

  • A wonderful rendition. The least you could expect of a contemporary of Maddy and Sandy. Lovely!

  • Cette chanson, personne ne le chante mieux. June communique le sens et les émotions qui dépassent les mots.

  • good god, thats is AWFUL! not her singing but the accent :D

  • I love it when people tell the tale of how a song got started; first as a poem then set to music. This story always blesses me somehow. I like singing it too by-lingually first in German then English. Thank you for posting this

  • Whoever won the WW2, this song wins all of soldiers' hearts.

  • ¿puede ser una canción de guerra común a todos los contendientes?

    Esta demuestra que SÍ.

  • This womans a little to over dramatic.

  • @November10th1775USMC Poor spelling .

  • @flatus69 Danke. Cunt.

  • wonderful introduction to this historic song. beautifully performed. pure class. thank you for up loading this.

  • My father was a GI (infantryman) in WWII. He really liked this song. I was a GI in a later war. I like it too. Besides a great melody line, the words do a good job of capturing the feeling of longing for someone left behind. Excellent song, well done.

  • There is a rumor afoot that there be a new cd release from June Tabor in February 2011 from Topic Records in the UK.It is said that all of the songs will be songs about the sea. Will we be hearing another version of "The Grey Funnel Line"?

  • Listen for Marlene Dietrich, but not the USO Camp version

  • When will we see/hear a new June Tabor CD?It's been quite awhile!

  • maybe this will make it to tabor's next cd?

  • ....a spellbinding performance.....

  • do you think that june's version of "lili marlene" will ever show up on cd?

  • For me, the was the surprise and the highlight of the Daughters of Albion; a beautiful and moving rendition and all the better for the intensity of June Tabor. She can get on my nerves sometimes, but she captures the mood and history of this song and almost, just almost makes it her own.

  • Is anyone else out there looking forward to a brand spanking new june tabor cd?

  • This singer/song absolutely wipes me out.

  • Fine Song!

    Thanks for posting!

    Aloha from Hawaii!

  • Ein Soldat verabschiedet sich von seiner Freundin. Taschentuch, bitte.

  • Let's hope that this lovely piece makes it to the next June Tabor cd!Is anyone interested in seeing this recorded?

  • Mashallah. Beautiful.

  • I don't have one-I was hoping that BBC would publish one.

  • Who would like to buy this "Daughters Of Albion" show on dvd?

  • I'd pay 100.00 USD for this one piece only on DVD!

  • Silent Night WW1

    Lilly Marlene WW2

When will we ever learn. Music links us. Politics is what divides us.

  • very moving.

  • If you like this piece, then take a look at June Tabor ----"As I Roved Out".

  • Who out there is patiently waiting for a new June Tabor cd?What 1 song would you like to hear her sing? Please repond here.

  • I'm waiting as patiently as I can. Hrm. What could be interesting is if she did a rendition of "Fallen Leaves" from Norma Waterson's album "The Very Thought of You", written by Eliza Carthy.

  • Thank you.I will investigate this piece.

  • I just uploaded the song as a video, since it wasn't on youtube already. It's a really good song, Norma Waterson is amazing.

  • A new cd is forthcoming from June Tabor in February of 2011 from Topic Records.

  • @flatus69 I think a version of richard thompsons beeswing would be ridiculously interesting

  • @hottunasandwich Or '52 Vincent Black Lightning.

  • @flatus69 The World Turned Upside Down by Leon Rosselson

  • @flatus69

I'd love to hear June sing Jessica Radcliffe's (Jessica Ruby Simpson) song "We Were All Heroes". Or the old French tune "Le Petit Mercelot"

  • Stunning version of this song. It literally brought me to tears.

  • Timeless.

  • Magnificent! Why can't we buy this on dvd?Callas,Pavarotti,Piaf,Tabor.Who agrees that Tabor is possibly the most arresting interpreter of song on the planet today?

  • Agreed!

  • Let's petition someone about this vid on DVD shall we?Whom?

  • It appeared on a special on BBC Four, so them, I assume.

  • i really like this song..and her accent is so cute!

german is a hard language isn´t it?

  • How might I get an Mp3 of this video?

  • I'd be happy to send it to you, but I'd need your email address. Or if you know of a free site where I can host it, let me know, as I don't know of any at the moment. (Note, the mp3 doesn't contain the cute banter, just the gorgeous singing).

  • download 'clipgrab'

  • Let's hope that this does appear on a future cd or dvd.I believe that June's version would bring a tear to Marlene Dietrich's eye.

  • What a treasure she is!!

  • Indeed!Let's start a movement to get this song on DVD.

  • Well, it appeared on a special in England called "the Daughters of Albion", as part of a Folk of Britannia series, so maybe it will be released on DVD. I just wish she'd sing a recorded version on a CD already. But it's okay if she doesn't, I ripped the audio from this so I have an mp3 to listen to :)

  • Tabor 's contribution to singing is profound.
