Every FPS is based off of Duke Nukem. The only reason people say it sucked was because they never played DN 3D! This game is for nostalgic players. I played DN 3D when I was 8-10 and I loved it. I love the new one just as much.

It got hyped up too much, and people will buy it as a joke just to see after 12 years what possible outcome a game could be. It doesn't look all that good, so there's not really anything that can be aimed at anyone.

I am SO glad that good´ol Duke didn´t meet the same sad fate that Kane from the Command and Conquer series did, when EA decided to end that series... This time there actually was some sane persons that could step in and take over the project when 3D Realms had to stop! God, I wish that Westwood Studios would´ve had the same luck back then...
The game looks sick, it's even got a 3D strip club this time around. As long as there's: Guts Gore Tits Slang Catchphases And some serious ass kicking Then this game can finally pay homage to the old classics. . Good job for bringing it all back, it looks pretty brutal. I can't wait to pwn this game.

@EinherjarServitor FPS engine or not. It's still not an actual SHOOTER. Yes, you shoot a portal gun. But, there's no actual essence of a shooter. It's more of *just* a puzzle game. All the game mechanics that make the game an actual shooter are not present. Thus, making it only a tiny bit FPS.

The point wasn't that it was or wasn't a shooter. The point was that a far superior First person game with puzzles had already been made, and that the Puzzles in Duke nukem are... out of place, and feel like they're thrown in as an afterthought.
@EinherjarServitor I get what you're going at and I'm not mindlessly engaging into an argument. I agree on the puzzles on the DNF part, though. They're sort of an *after battle* minor mind-fuck to progress through the next level.

HL2 has a good storyline, mood, and mise-en-scene but ultimately is a shallow, boring game after you beat it once and learned how limited the enemy AI is and how to overcome the puzzles (hint: you probably have to use the Gravity Gun to build a ramp, or stack boxes). I have a feeling Duke is going to be a rental at best, but I hate that feeling and want to punch it in the jewels. C'mon Gearbox, prove me wrong!

@drifter402 I couldn't make sense of half of that, but I think I get what you're saying. But unless the puzzles are random and/or they change with difficulty level, they don't really hold much replay value after you've solved them once, if you're moderately intelligent. I'll reiterate. If DNF is anything like Half Life 2, it'll be fun to play ONCE, and then get old after that. I'm not sure I want to blow $60 on a game I'll play once. As for CoD, I fucking hate those games. They're boring.
@drifter402 I will agree that the storyline and voice acting are wonderful. I really cared about the characters in the game, and I can say that it was an enjoyable experience... but the exact same stuff happens every time a new game is played. The battles are all set-piece, the puzzles are the same, the enemies react in the exact same way, the paths are all linear, etc. HL2 relies heavily on scripting, meaning that once you get the hang of things, it's cake. Hopefully DNF won't have that.
@ninjast4r from what I recalled in my old playthroughs in the other Duke Nukem games, IT HAS A TON OF SECRET AREAS and quite a lot of irritating puzzles (some are Half-life standard easyness, some from what I saw was just irritating and headache inducing O_-) but overall I believe that this game will have some moderately high replay value for its sure humor, action pack, secret areas, and good ol chicks ;D

To be completely honest, this game doesn't look too great. The 3D-realms one would've been not only alot successful, but alot better aswell.

I almost wanted to give up on all forms of rating systems and their bs. Entirely, not the usual kind of hate. Certain things in this game were either changed or taken out. Due to discrimination against women. Which actually wasn't far from the shit they do on public television already. And it *certainly* isn't strategy. It's a puzzle game. Also thinking, but in a different manner from strategy games. Strategy is... ya know... strategical. Taking advantage of terrain, outflanking, and so on. Different from puzzles.

@EinherjarServitor FPS engine or not. It's still not an actual SHOOTER. Yes, you shoot a portal gun. But, there's no actual essence of a shooter. It's more of *just* a puzzle game. All the game mechanics that make the game an actual shooter are not present. Thus, making it only a tiny bit FPS.

But I'll reiterate, because I'm stupid that way: Portal is set apart because it's a puzzle game on an FPS engine. It's what made it unique.
The point wasn't that it was or wasn't a shooter. The point was that a far superior First person game with puzzles had already been made, and that the Puzzles in Duke nukem are... out of place, and feel like they're thrown in as an afterthought.

HL2 has a good storyline, mood, and mise-en-scene but ultimately is a shallow, boring game after you beat it once and learned how limited the enemy AI is and how to overcome the puzzles (hint: you probably have to use the Gravity Gun to build a ramp, or stack boxes). I have a feeling Duke is going to be a rental at best, but I hate that feeling and want to punch it in the jewels. C'mon Gearbox, prove me wrong!

@drifter402 I couldn't make sense of half of that, but I think I get what you're saying. But unless the puzzles are random and/or they change with difficulty level, they don't really hold much replay value after you've solved them once, if you're moderately intelligent. I'll reiterate. If DNF is anything like Half Life 2, it'll be fun to play ONCE, and then get old after that. I'm not sure I want to blow $60 on a game I'll play once. As for CoD, I fucking hate those games. They're boring.

@drifter402 I will agree that the storyline and voice acting are wonderful. I really cared about the characters in the game, and I can say that it was an enjoyable experience... but the exact same stuff happens every time a new game is played. The battles are all set-piece, the puzzles are the same, the enemies react in the exact same way, the paths are all linear, etc. HL2 relies heavily on scripting, meaning that once you get the hang of things, it's cake. Hopefully DNF won't have that.

@ninjast4r from what I recalled in my old playthroughs in the other Duke Nukem games, IT HAS A TON OF SECRET AREAS and quite a lot of irritating puzzles (some are Half-life standard easyness, some from what I saw was just irritating and headache inducing O_-) but overall I believe that this game will have some moderately high replay value for its sure humor, action pack, secret areas, and good ol chicks ;D
