Looks like a concert pitch 3/4 Woofe set to me. My guess is he's choosing not to use drones or regs. If you look closely you notice he doesn't have the last crook of his bass drone attached. I'm an amature piper, and I remove this crook to fit my set in it's case, and if I'm at a casual session/don't plan on using the drones, I just don't put it together.
holy crap... have you guys seen the audience. just look at their faces... seems like... i don't know... numnesss. Rather scary to play to such an audience.
Yes Mickey Smith has a nice set of uilleann pipes, with drones and regulators. But the drones are not on. To me it would have improved the sound with the drones on. Sorry for the quickly done previous comment.
I disagree. The sound is natural, the tuning is good, they play tight, the versioins of the tunes are correct and the style is traditional.
Concerning the lack of drone, can be a choice, or a technical reason (out of tune, reeds broken or the like). Not every piper has to use the drone night and day.

I think Mickey is playing with concert pitch chanter in a flat set of pipes tuning in B, so he can´t use neither drones nor regulators.

Great sounding narrow bore chanter played by Mickey. And his playing is top notch as well. Fair play to them!

It was well played, but a bit too careful. For me it lacks passion and feeling.
