Hey Jeremy how do you feel about Maschine's sequencer? I just bought it and I feel like I want to wait for the Akai Mpc Renassiance to drop. Maybe I just need to sit on it for awhile. I know you use it as a controller but do you like the sequencer. Give me an unbiased answer in my inbox. I don't want you to lose any sponsorship lol. Also I want to work with you so let me know how to go about that.

@KozmotheKid I don't like Maschine's sequencer and I'm trying to encourage NI to make one that's as good as any of the other's on the market. I still love Maschine and use it everyday, though half the time I'm using it in MIDI Controller mode, as in this video. I was just too comfortable with my Reason live set up, so I'm still kinda living in two camps...

@jeremyellismusic I knew it lol. Because as soon as I got it I had buyer remorse. I love the pads but i wasn't sold on the sequencer. Once I saw how people were integrating it into DAW's I started to think that it lost all functionality. Like why put vst's in it if you hate the sequencer. I'm limbo and I have 20 days to return it. MPC Renaissance is super steep but that sequencer may be golden.

@KozmotheKid I saw the new MPCs at NAMM the other day. Sequencer looks just like Maschine's! It might be better, as I only had a quick look. Was extremely disappointed with how the latency felt on the new mini-looking Renaissance. For what it's worth, Maschine has one of the greatest factory sound banks of all time, and it pretty easy to quickly chop samples, load up new groups and even get a few sequences going. I've been digging deeper, but still feel it's better used in a DAW.

I want to see how to layer melodic sounds and bass and drums. This is just finger drumming. Is there a video that gets into the functions of the software? How to sequence?: capacity? etc. This isn't making me want to buy the Maschine

How long of sequences can I do? how many samples simultaneously etc?

@crackmunch The Maschine software is basically a very simple DAW now. You can do as long a sequences as you like. And in theory all 16 samples at the same time when live but you can probably get 128 simultaneously by preprogramming over all 8 kits on all 16 pads. If your laptop can handle it.

@e33ew22wq11q Machine Mikro is the Same Software/Program. Only difference is you cant do everything with the Machine Mikro Hardware as you can the Maschine. Ex. The Mikro has one screen, you lose all the knobs above. The MAschine has two screens obviously, and more knobs to help control with ease. Thats the only difference. The pads are the same. If you have the money go for the Maschine. I myself went with the Mikro, Kind of wish I would have went with the Maschine, but hey, I love it!

Why a Maschine and Maschine Mikro?

I just ordered a maschine... and am already thinking about scrapping my original plan of getting komplete 8 ultimate so i can get komplete 8 AND a maschine mikro. I know it doesnt make much sense, since my first maschine isnt even it yet.

I want to do it but I DONT KNOW WHY ! :P

In all seriousness, the earnestness with which you approach electronic music is a huge inspiration. Question: do you derive your drum patterns from close listening or do you (or did you ever) use the aid of drumming literature? It seems like every drummer likes to recommend a different resource, but something is obviously working for you! Peace.

Nice one there sir! I've noticed that you have an affinity towards afro-cuban rythms, have you ever worked with any ot the more traditional west african ones? I ask being I'm very interested to hear/see what you'll do with a kalimba (sample or from the NI West Africa kit). Thanks for the inspiration and tired fingers as always :-)

@SoulcheckAudio Thanks for the compliment. There are more detailed instructions in the companion post, Finger Bang Tip of the Day, on my facebook page. The link is in the video's info. The basic idea is this: get a Bass Drum, Snare and Hi-Hat part going with the left hand, add the Cascara rhythm with the right hand, then try to break up the right hand Cascara idea onto multiple pads. Sample placement is important, but this exercise is more about hand/finger independence. Hope that helps!

@GtarBeast97 The Mikro is an entry level piece, so it's basically designed to be almost as good as Maschine. The pads on the Mikro might be 5% better than Maschine, with a more welcoming feeling surface texture. Other than that, it's Maschine without the knobs and the screens. If you have the money, go big. PS: you cannot simultaneously use a Mikro and Maschine with Maschine software. They can both be used as controllers for other software (such as Reason), as I'm doing in this video.
