  • maynga?

  • What do you mean by visa?

I'm guessing its not a credit card lol

  • I live in Osaka Japan and couldn't even join a gym because of having tattoos. I told them I would always keep them covered, NG

  • @JetMechInJapan yeah with the big chains you gotta hide them all from day one and not say anything. if they find out later you can still get kicked. at this point i use a home gym.

  • lucky to find your channel :)

cause i want to emigrate to japan later .. your videos help me a lot :)

my question is... what and where do you work ?

  • That's Bullshit about the tats...Let me ask u something...How come english is so important to learn in japan?...But it's not important to learn Japanese in america?

  • @aoiahiru because japan is an amazing country , the people the food the culture is pretty amazing....i hope to live their one day too...

  • Ouch sorry about that, but I know several foreign artists who are established mangaka's in Japan, Nheira for example, look him up some time :D

  • about manga its not true.

some foreign manga writer in japan.

some chinese and korean and even a french guy named Frédéric Boilet.

  • Very good video. Thank you for sharing. Also, random sidenote: You kinda look like this one actor named Scott Michael Foster, but only when he plays his character in "Greek."

  • Lol zombie dog!!!

  • you look nice with long hair

  • never been to japan but its my number one holiday destination

  • lol Felipe Smith :P

  • What about facial piercing? i'm guessing they are a no no too, huh?

  • @6:56 You are so cute, like an Asian guy! Haha

  • Hi ...so ok i have tattoo sleeves and i'm a woman i' ve been wanting to go for a language exchange program to learn japanese in tokyo & get closer to my dream of living there ...i'm also a hairstylist so i kept thinking it would be ok in that industry but now i just dunno what to think anymore ...any suggestions?

  • OH...and your dog is sooooo kawaii!!!!! XD

  • About the tatts : According to ThejapanesechannelDcom anyone with a tattoo (gaijin or not) is not allowed acces to any waterpark. I tend to believe him, 'cause he fills up my japanese yearnings! LOL. But hey...who am I ( apart from being a dutch baka gaijin , preparing to go to Nippon) Is that really the case??

  • You Didn't Kill It For Me xDD You Just Made It More Challenging xDD *Fairy Tail Natsu Quote* Wooo Now I'm All Fired Up ;DDD

  • Wow! I find it really interesting that Japan makes you renounce your natural citizenship in order to become a citizen there..Not sure if I could do that...I guess I'll cross that bridge when it comes.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't you become a Japanese citizen if you marry Japanese person?

  • Yeah, I have a question for you... are you single?

  • god, U remind me of Yamashita Tomohisa!

  • how would you get a veasa for japan?

  • I have a question:]

How do you know if you're getting a good deal in Japan? Money conversions can be confusing, and I would bet that some Japanese vendors would take advantage of gaijins.

  • I researched that they will check you if you have tattoos or not if you do,you won't we allowed to be japanese citizen.i'm not sure but is it true? andd...

i'm an asian,korean-chinese by ethnics and with tattoos.. other the working areas/onsens etc. will people, like avoid you if they know you got tattoos, those in their 20s/30s? or like when you tell your japanese friends will they start to avoid you?

  • I just recently heard that Stan Lee is doing a manga with the author of Shaman King but yeah I can see that they dont hire foreigners in Manga / Anime in their studios and considering he is one of the Godfathers of modern superhero's it took long enough to get him in.

  • I have a question for you.Something I have been thinking about for a long time.

You say you have been living there for 3 years now right?

Well, there is always this hype about how Japan is freaking awesome and etc etc etc...

So,after 3 years...I am guessing this "Ohhh Japan,COOL!" magic has not wore off yet?

Or are you simply in love with the culture?

Even after spending so much time,3 years, you still wanna stay forever....why...what makes Japan so special for you? What makes you stay..forever?

  • i dont know but your so cool ^//^

  • @aoiahiru i will live here forever. i pay taxes so i want to vote to. i want to be more active in the community in general.

  • u look like the ring girl lol

  • Thanks for videos. I have tattoos on my arm as well and I always wondered if it would be possible for me to work in Japan. My Japanese friend told me it would be really difficult so thanks for the info. I figured I would have to wear a long sleeve shirt at all times at work too. So do your employers know about your tattoos?

  • As a heavily tattooed female, I had some worries about my future plans to travel to Japan. I'm planning to vacation there soon then if I like it enough plan to go to a Japanese language school down the line. I haven't done quite enough research yet but would being heavily tattooed ruin my chances of being accepted into a school? Ive been looking into a school called NILS. I know id have to cover them with long sleeves for work, but would they effect my chances with finding a good school?

  • I wonder what my name would look like in Kanji, Because yea my name is spelled differently lol send me a message back thanks

  • where do ifind pokemon ?

  • Hello~

Im new to your videos (so sorry in advance for any repeated questions) ^ ^...

but I was just wondering what you, personally, do in Japan as far as a job/career~ Do you teach English or...? (If you don't mind my asking)

PS, thank you for posting these videos~

  • Hey, just a question, do you have to stay consecutively 7 years in Japan to get qualified for a citizenship?

  • 3 years now

  • I like hearing from you about becoming a Japanese citizen. I will be moving to Japan in a year to be with my future husband, we plan to marry upon my arrival. And, I do plan in my future to try to get citizenship. I will be very interested to hear your trials and tributaries as you have them.

  • Indeed, regarding getting into anime and manga, though not impossible, I did see a video about Kadokawa and saw a guy working on the animation side of things who was French.

That aside, like any creative industry of that ilk, you need to be very good indeed to stand any chance.

  • I don't want to discourage you but I don't really recommend any foreginers doing anime business because it's just too damn competitive. Think about it. millions of japanese competing against themelves to make better anime and you are just a gaijin trying to figure what the hell is going on. it's the same thing as Asian guy trying out for NBA or Ice hockey team in the USA. BUt hey I am not a dream killer. YOu can always try or die trying

  • VERY CUTE !

  • I was born in Mexico and now have citizenship in America as well, what would happen if I tried to apply in Japan. Would I have to lose my citizenship with the other 2 countries or what?

  • @HellCuzins SAME HERE DUDE i have exactly the same question .... i was born in mexico and am a citizen in us i wanna become japanese citizen and i heard you can loose ur papers .... i dont want that since i wanna come back to US ...

  • Awesome tattoos. Its a lot better than the shitty ones over at the tattoohub [.] com

  • hey just dropping by to say you're hot!! nice vids bye

  • what about piercings? I have a septum and 00g plugs and I hope that they wont be too taken aback.

  • Personally I think it's more practical to work as a comic book artist in your own country because it's easier. I think you can still do manga style art without having to actually be in Japan. Besides learning a new language is something I can't do very well anyway.

  • michael arias is an american and he was the first gaijin in making anime in japan

    he directed Tekkonkinkreet

    So..he made it!

but he had a huge resume full of other things he has done in the past, which were very big too.

lots of conections with important people...and so on....

So...it´s really hard to become an artist in japan,... at least in the anime field.

  • Hey Unrested, how's it going?

I'm not Japanese (I'm American) but I now live in Tokyo where I've been publishing my own Manga series for over 1 year and 3 months, through Kodansha's monthly "Morning Two" Magazine. My series is called "Peepo Choo" and the fist 2 volumes are out in bookstores in Japan! :D

Check out my vids if you're interested.

Hope all is well on your side!

  • @FelipeSmith I clap for you ^_^, I'd like to do that someday ^^;;

  • @FelipeSmith

    go felipe!

  • @FelipeSmith

    Good job!

  • what a cute dog ^__^

  • Great video. I'm a Japanese, but your video still makes me think about my own culture and understanding how it is been viewed by others.

    However there is one correction.

There is a foreign man working as anime producer in Toei. He has produced few animes, and I remember there is another guy also creating animes.

Search for ギャルマト・ボグダン. Unfortunately I don't know how to spell it.

  • thnx man i found that vid really useful

i searched over the web about citizenship in japan but here is your vid to give me answers

my regards from egypt with love

  • just started watching your vids & i subscribed to your account.

i love the videos, especially the honesty in your answers.

  • i heard something that i'm not sure if its true or not. that if you have born us citizenship you cannot be forced to renounce it? that it just may be difficult in cases of like voting, etc.?

  • yeah i dont think anyone can force you. it has to be a choice of your own.

  • do you think that affects being granted citizenship or not so much?

and i have a question to ask. or more like an opinion: which do you like better osaka-area or hokkaido sapporo-area and why? (well that is if you've been up there, haha)

  • Can I find a western style food market in Japan?

  • watch my faq on food in japan.

  • Good video dude but I know of at least 6 full time manga and anime creators in japan and alot more manga assistants are foreigners now too.

  • yeah sadly another faq goes obsolete lol it happens.

  • Your right about complete understanding of the language though.Without it you cant create manga for Japanesse people.

  • Maybe in germany its a different situation but at least its hard too and maybe its harder. In japanese (ive heard) are schools where you can learn drawing manga. And in japan you grown up with manga all the time because there is everywere stuff like that. Of course in japan its very hard become an mangaka because there are many good artists who wants to be one.

What do you mean with "there is 2 or 3 right now"

  • You dont need to write and speak japanese and anything like that. In Germany you can be a mangaka too. And in any other land too where manga is an topic. Its hard, and maybe your manga will not be popular in japan. But a good manga dont must be drawn in japan. And a good Mangaka dont must be from Japan. So i think its wrong from you to tell when someone dont know the japanese language cant be an mangaka and anything like that.

Im sorry for my bad english.

  • a mangaka in germany is a totally different situation. i didnt say they cant i just said they will be the first. there is 2 or 3 right now but it is few and far between.

  • yeah i know i mean there are only about 2-3 gaijin manga artists here. and in japan you DEFINITELY need to speak, read, write perfect japanese to get such a job,

  • Ahh ok now i understand what you mean^^

  • What kind of jobs do they have for foreigners in Japan?

  • watch faq on jobs.

  • are you sure its 7 years? My research said it was only 5 years. and that You did not have to actually take on a kanji writing but it was suggested

  • the immigration laws are changing and this happen after i made this vid quite a while ago. one problem about making these is the constant shift in immigration.

  • hmm that I had not heard about but that does sound quite likely.

I do like this video though, very informative.

  • For the last question: do you have to stay in japan for 7 CONSECUTIVE years or for the time you stay there just adds up eventually untill you get to 7 years regardless of leaving the country for any amount of time and coming back? Hope my question is clear.

  • Can they really keep you out of a place just for being foreign? How often does that happen?

  • the gov does nothing to regulate this hence it can continue. its not like western countries where a place would be shut down in a matter of days for discrimination. still, its not that common. i have only had it 2 times in my 3 years of living here. well not including never being able to go to onsens for having tattoos, and some gym too.

  • Seven years I read it was five years

  • ive heard it can change to as low as 3 if you get married and change from a spouse visa to citizenship so you may be right. there may be another loophole that brings it down to 5 like a business visa. there is most likely always an exception to my info on here.

  • If ytou want to know specifically you could google "debito japanese citizenship naturalization", he has a couple essays specifially tlaking about applying for citizenship.

You can apply after 3 years, which is quicker than trying to get permanent residency, but you still have to take a japanese history test, submit a shitload of documents from back home, show that you can read/write and speak japanese proficiently, etc. etc. Not as simple as just "being here for 7 years".

  • I'm pretty sure you said before that you teach English in Japan, right?

Well, if so, have they said anything negtative about your tattoos? Or do you just hide them?

When I lived in Japan ...I didn't see many people with tattoos....only in Shibuya. And my husband tells me that it's looked down on...or a sign that the person is a 'bad boy/girl'. So, if you haven't already...can you do a FAQ about that?

    Thanks.

  • wait waait.......can youh become a person that speaks for anime. like you are the character.

  • you could but the jobs would be sparse, you would have to know alot of japanese, and it would probably be a special situation.

also the money would be little to nothing and you would have to have connections in the business out here.

  • what about japanese girls?:DD

  • FAQ 10

  • i heared a lot of people saying that house in japan are small and very expensive is that true?could you give me an example of the price in euro of a "normal" house?

  • it is true. remember this country is only the size of california but holds 127,000,000 people. that means every inch is expensive. also a good portion of japan is uninhabitable due to mountain ranges as well. prices vary by area but unless you are living in a rural area a 4 room house could cost you as much 100,000 euros in a heavily urban area. And I mean rooms that are only about 18x18ft.

  • What about ear piercings? Do eikaiwa and other schools expect their gaijin employees to be piercing-free? I'm wondering in particular about multiple ear piercings and stretched lobes (I'm female, if that makes any difference in your response).

  • being femal pericings are fine. if you work with kids i find employers are far more lenient as I have 9/16s (000 gauge) and my job doesnt care.

Eikaiwas are far more strict on tats and earrings though. for men you can really only have small holes and nothing inside when you are at work.

  • Good to know. Thanks!

  • LOOL, mecha kakoii!!

    It's not a lie. ^-^

  • what do you do in japan (your job)

  • kindergarten teacher. what?! Cant you just look at me and tell thats what I do? Everything about my disposition says kindergarten teacher. lol, no really though take a look at my kindergarten vids and you will see my job in detail.

  • My boyfriend has about a few tattoos on his shoulders and he has a hard time getting into onsens....

  • lol yeah i just dont even try. I just chill at my yakuza friends onsens.

  • whats romaji?

thats wat im trina do study japanese online but i never find any website 4 japanese..do u speakfluent japanese?

  • how old were u when u moved 2 japan??

And were did u learn japanese?? i never

knew how to write kanji but i can write...hiranga and katakana... and do u know how to spell (jacqcar)in kanji?? if u do can u write it.

  • I was 27 when I moved here. I studied japanese on my own. Jacqcar? I am unsure what word you are talking about as there are no q`s,c`s, and r ending sounds in the japanese language. If you spell it in romaji I could tell you.

  • how come all the japanese teens have these crazy anime hairstyles ?i googled anime/asian hair on youtube and they say that they use gatsby but i don't think thats it . is it their hair that is special , do they cut their hair in some weird way or is it something else because i really make them like that

  • oh and btw you pretty much ruined my dream of becoming a mangaka :P but at least now i know the truth

  • yeah I have done that to alot of viewers I think lol. かわいそう笑い!But dont feel too bad it pays really bad. For example you would only be making 1500 to 2000 USD a month to work almost 10-12 hours a day dishing out phonebook size mangas every month. Only when one like Death Note hits huge popularity does the money start to flow in.

  • gatsby is awesome. They really do use quite a bit of it and the thing is it comes in all different types of textures, levels, and allows for many different styles. I know their hair looks stylish and soft but it is actually quite tough and usually rigid with styling gel that allows it to dry without a damp look (unlike Dep gel in the states). They also use insane amounts of hairspray here too and loads of extensions (both boys and girls). So dont be fooled by the outrageous amounts of hair.

  • you draw ?

  • can you show your drawings in one of your videos plz ?

  • sure I would love to. I will think of how to work that in at some point.

  • cute dog. whats its name?

  • uri-chan. it means baby boar because when she was a small puppy she had a big stripe down her back like a baby boar would have.

  • youre cool man..i really love japan but im not a japanese..im a filipino i lived in phillipines..but i love japan about their traditon in way of living..keep up the good work man..

  • thanks I appreciate the compliment. I know some Filipinos out here who are half japanese. They are really fun to hang out with. glad you enjoy the videos. let meknow if I can answer any questions about japan for you.

  • thanks everyone so much for your awesome response to my FAQ videos! I thought videos of me just sitting there talking would be really boring but I have had such an overwhelming response to them that I plan to post FAQs alot more frequently. Please keep the questions coming and thanks again!

  • great video, it was very interesting.

  • thanks for the positive feedback. let me know if there is anything I can answer in future videos

  • another great vid cant wait till the next one

  • thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch everything I make. I will be addressing your question in FAQ 4 so look out for that:)

  • hehe, i bet you're getting all the attention when rocking those arm tattoos in the city

  • haha yeah at times I do get more attention than I want with the tats.
