J&R Music World is ok. Not as good as the old days. I still go there just to see computer stuff at their Computer World, though I never buy from them. You're probably talking about the J&R Music World off of the A train at Broadway and Nassau.
This is great info, swordsage :) First time I ever heard the type of music you play in the background was on some public channel, kpft, I think, in Houston. Always came on after mid-night and always non-commercial stuff. Thanks for the great links :)
A lot of the online stores are awesome like hard to find records and beatport and even the regular stores are getting into downloads. Gone are the days when the tiny specialist shops are the only place to get your underground tunes... you can pick up a few white labels in the London stores from noobs doing S+R but even the new guys are doing digital versions slowly now too - WBMX in chicago used to be the station but im showing my age now ;)
Thank the balance that most of my friends are dj's. I think I know about 15 dj's. Good mates of mine. They give me their private remixes. Most of them are DAMN good. At least 99.9%.
Just last year, my dj friend Sioux from South Africa, she plays at clubs and is now current forerunner of trance in SA, she gave me 30 of her personal trance cd's which she does for fun. She...is...amazing!
Groove salad on somafm has had a bigtime influence on my taste in music. No day would be the same without it! :)
