dude I had the same problem (an ASD) my hole was not even close to an inch in size. the doc told me it was about 4cm in dia. I was 18 when they fixed me up. I was fortunate enough though that they didnt have to open up my chest. Had a catheter put up my leg and had this device put up there and opened up this thing. Its called a cardioseal. Since then I havent had any of the symptoms I used to. Hope all goes well for you bud!

im 20 now, i had a VSD duct device closure when i was 14...it was a non-surgical procedure, there ws insertions in my thigh and my shoulder..

as a pharmacist i can tell u there are some silicon stickers that u can put on the scar for some months, and then the scar would disappear soon if god permits. you can find them in pharmacies.

i dont want to tell my family nor any of my friend, and keep it as a secret!

Ive got a leaky valve as well which has to be repaired at the same time think ill be out around 5 hrs bad thing is tho that ill have to have another op in a few years as the valve will need to be repaired again or replaced .

i thought that was normal. but dad bought me a stethoscope in the last month since we learned how to listen to heart sound in college. i got used to what is considered Normal heart sound" but when i listened to my own heart, i heard a wheezing sound with each beat , and just then i started to relate all these symptoms "that i got used to " to my old story with ASD

Since they discovered the ASD early when I was a kid, but after some exam they didnt offer me any treatment, and kept me on follow-ups

After some time of that, the doctor told me that the ASD id over, and I would need no surgery

After having her ASD closed, my daughter had much more energy, even within a few hours of the procedure it was evident. She still has some difficulties with gross and fine motor skills, math, etc. but is much improved. Her quality of life is so much better. The difference is really amazing.

I also have a PFO/ASA & I stress this,IT IS NOT LIFE THREATENING!!! I am so against PFO closure. The umbrella device IS NOT FDA approved & that device could break apart anytime in you & cause real problems. Everyone is different & my PFO/ASA causes me no problems. I do not get migranes or racing of the heart which I hear are some of the effects of a PFO. Millions of people live healthy lives with PFO/ASA & have no problems. My personal feeling is that PFO closure is just a money making device.

im 15 and I have an ASD too..its 11mm and the doctors said they dont know if i need to surgery or not because they said it was in such a spot that they cant tell if its bad enough. some side effect are just hard breathing but i have to get scans done once a year, im scared because it keeps getting bigger and im worried that one day i will just die. :( im happy to hear that other people have this too. knowing that im not alone with this is comforting

ive got one too, i think ive got it from an energy drink. its not the energy drink. its the fact that you drunk it too fast. after that my heart started pumping so hard that i started loosing consienseness and my thoughts were scattered. so every now and then i loose my thoughts and i have to gather my thoughts again spiritually. basically by thinking. not too much thiinking.

greets mate... I have had an ASD closure (Amplatzer Cribriform device implanted on Dec.26.2007) as well. It's a pretty scary ride, but you'll be fine. My story is that I had a stroke on Aug.13.2007 out of the blue and was paralyzed on the right side of my body from head to toe. 10% brain damage from a clot that formed in the PFO shunt. I was able to bounce back through hard work in physical therapy and now I live a normal life with 98% normal body function. hang in there mate, you'll beat it.

Im 23 and have had heart palps for years and always told that they were normal!!! I fainted 4times after having a string of palps, which finally made my doctor do some tests....idiot!

3.2cm does sound large i don't think you will have to wait long for your op. I am still waiting as they seem to think im not in any danger yet, my palps just keep getting worse tho and i am finding them hard to live with. Ive got a scan coming up soon so ill find out if its time for the op.

You may have to push to get it done (my boyfriend lives in the UK so I'm familiar with the medicine there), but from my doctors said you shouldn't be that affected by it, like not being able to exercise. I'm on medication now because my heart was too far damaged before they fixed it. I know how scary it is to hear that news. Hang in there, and GET IT FIXED.

I had this too, and didn't find out about it until I was 23. They wanted to do the umbrella-type fix, but the hole was too large, and had to have the open heart surgery. It will be a year in Sept. You should fix it if it's making you tired.

I had asd repair when I was 22, I'm now 43. The operation was a piece of cake. The can now repair through a cathider. Even if you have open heart, which is what I had no big deal. You will be fine.

Hey, I dont have a heart condition but I do suffer from palpitations. They tend to come and go, I'll have a run of about two weeks of having a missed heartbeat (PVC's - actually an extra heartbeat, feel like a pause then a thump) every minute or so and then they will go. It's linked to stress for me and they are very common, everyone gets a few, but they are uncomfortable and sometimes scary.

1) change the way you think, research/heathy foods, begin thinking positive about living a heathy life changing and improving you body.

2) stop smoking

3) research about eating right - go to you supplement shop, buy flaxseed or fish oil = omega 3, 6 and 9 oils. - lift weights this will make you heart grow. serious start bodybuilding. you may get a huge improvement in your health/condition.

4)always motivate yourself

5)never forget rule number 1.

when i first got them i was sooo scared it felt like my heart was giving up or i was having small heart attacks but the doctor assured me it cant kill me. Different things bring them on try less stress or anxiety because that to me is a big cause and less caffeine smoke or getting exited but it all depends on which palp.. you get , hope all goes well just relax and things may get better before you see the doc..

Jay, I was 22 when the hole in my heart was found. My condition is called "Atrial Septal Defect" I had the open heart surgery to correct mine, as the "Butterfly" procedure wasn't an option for me due to the size of the defect. If I had the choice, I would still choose the open heart surgery to correct the condition. I am in nursing school so that I can work with children with heart conditions. p.s. i have a feeling you know all this already... but, if you're wondering what to do while you wait to get fixed... you'll want to avoid anything that could increase your chance of developing and passing a clot through your hole, ie smoking, sitting still for too long, and straining yourself like people do when they are benchpressing weights or really, really constipated....

Jay, really sorry to hear about your problem. I'm no expert and know little about it other than my cousin who is mid thirties now has hadhole in the heart diagnosed since birthand it has never been operated on.

He lives a full active life but one of his tricks is to put a microphomne over his chest and every few second you hear a blurpy bubbly noise. i know this isn't much use to you .. but just to let you know I wish you all the best whatever the treatment and GIVE UP SMOKING (says he)
