@alshouse You know Neil, like I know Neil...Song Sung Blue, Sooliman or Shilo..alright! What I'm getting at is this song is not in Neils style, he'd probably have to slow it down and sing it as tho it were a ballad....therefore, It would be out of charactor. I am not surprized however that he didn't sing it however. It would be like comparing the version by Jose Feliciano, when he sang the monster hit the Doors made famous, "Light My Fire". it just wouldn't sound the same, believe me!!!.
Actually there has been known to be sunflowers around these parts that have grown to such a height, & on occasion there publized. The many we grow bording the garden are 9-10 ft. I will confess that we have a large compost heap & all the plants do well especially when we have a sunnier summer like we had this past year. What is important to know is that they sap. I mean drain alot of the moisture from the ground as they grow taller & reach for the sun. Thanks again 4 the colourful slideshow
Always enjoyed this song, I've also got it in my record collection. I also decided to call my laptop Sunflower. What I really want to do is thankyou for a most bueatiful slide show centering around fields of sunflowers, the likes of which me and millions of others have never seen before. Living in Vancouver Canada, we do have alot of clouds around at times & all that moisture this time of the year, but I have to confess that we do grow the tallest(12 ft.) and biggest sunflowers on earth. thx
There's nothing like some tasty slide guitar. Remember, Glen was a studio guitar player before he was a performer on his own. He even toured as a Beach Boy in place of Brian Wilson, no less, who was afraid of flying. Great song, why it wasn't a huge hit I'll never know...
Hey Darl'n.... Thanks for your comment.... Didn't know that there were any that close...I'm in NC ..... Thanks again... and Hope you have a great week !!! Where are you from ..?????
More than you wanted to know: in order of production, the big five are N. Dakota, Minnesota, S. Dakota, Texas, and Kansas. Worldwide, the US is 6th in industrial production of sunflower products, after Russia, Ukraine, China, India, and Argentina. If it's any consolation, the sunflower is a native American plant, originally cultivated in Tennessee.
In case you're wondering about the presence of Neil Diamond in the tags, it's because he wrote the song. Sounds like one of his type of songs, doesn't it? However, he has never released a version of it, nor has he been known to have sung it in concert or on T.V.
One of my favorite tunes EVER! Thanks for sharing!

A great song from the 70s. Everytime I see a sunflower on the side of the road, I think of this song.
